Good luck pulling in the Asian markets with a film like Top Gun: Maverick. It's a film that is fairly obviously aimed at an American audience and will need to speak to the American audience to succeed.

Put Tom Cruise in a Chinese fighter aircraft and it would pull off tens of billions.

The movie has top notch visual effects, and a good story, although it felt a bit all over the place. They were trying to tell Alita’s history for once, then jumps to Ido being Hunter Warrior, then goes to the baddie Hunter Warrior Zapan then suddenly goes to Chiren and Vector then leaps to Hugo’s dirty business and so on. Kinda all over the place but still a solid piece.

Don't think it was bad.  Not too fast pace.  They explained well her background as a warrior from Mars.  And she was drawn to conflict because of her instinct and training.  Hence why she wanted to be a hunter warrior.  She thinks she can make a difference.  And at the same time caught up in Hugo's scheme to get rich quick.  LOL!  Just kidding more like having a better life together.  Sadly it was not to be.

I really liked their relationship, that was one of the strengths of the film. At least from alitas perspective. (didn't care about him as a character)

and yeah when he was rebuilt and then climbed up the pipe and then died, it was all a bit quick, felt like some scenes had been edited out. Which may not have made it better if they were in, but no that bit didn't really work for him as a character.

It did work in terms of the affect it has on Alita and that was what I thought was important. Seeing and believing Alita's reactions to events in the movie is enough for me. The entire film is held together (imo) by the character of Alita (and, I suppose in part by Rosa Salazar's performance).

Also can I just say I really liked how fast the credits went. More movies should do that.

Love the scene when she was willing to give up her heart for him.  And he was uncomfortable, especially when he himself was kinda bad still peoples parts.

Yeah, motorball was only used as a kind of glue to stitch some of the story together. I understand that they wanted the added visual spectacle but overall the movie might have worked better without it.

Would also have loved to see Alita saving little Koyomi because she could have bonded with the other hunter warriors through that. Though i guess more brain eating would have been required. I am reallly happy though, that they did not skip Alitas initial defeat against Makaku/Grewishka (as far as i remember the OVA lets Alita win straight away). Her determination and fierceness really shone through there. As you say, overall she really is the glue that keeps this movie together.

I liked the motorball and be great point to lead to whoever goes to Zalem as champion and you saw at the end she is determined to win it after going through the races through time lapse.

Yeah but there's no explanation about how these two dudes met up in the first place...just like so many other unanswered questions in the movie.

I guess at least we know the man-bun originated in Atlantis, though..  😐

Possible meeting of joining the two kingdoms, but he needed to persuade the other leader to join the war against the surface dwellers.  The submarine attack which by COINCIDENCE attacked them which led to the other leader to join Ocean Master against the surface.

So in Justice League, Aquaman meets with Mera underwater to discuss the box Steppenwolf is looking for. Only it's one of those bubble areas where they talk without being underwater.

In Aquaman the first scene with Mera, she's like "you beat Steppenwolf" establishing this movie takes place after Aquaman.

Later Aquaman asks Mera "what's your name?" WHAT THE!? He ALREADY knows her. He's known her since Justice League! How does he not know her name!?

Then inside the ship in Atlantis she explains the idea of there being a pocket underwater. But....he should already know this from his meeting with her in Justice League.

Anyways lol at the movie like an hour in being like "by the way let's go to a flashback that explains Aquaman learning about his powers." Also lol at Aquaman always being able to breathe underwater BUT never trying to speak underwater until he's with his mentor guy.

Oh man, was the political thing about the war and whose king of Atlantis very boring and dull. Then there's the even more dull story of the black guy from the submarine who has a vendetta against Aquaman. Most of the costumes looked fake and not cool. The hairstyles of Atlantis needed more variety.  Predictable plot points. WAY overused convos which get interrupted by a surprise explosion.  I thought the third act would deliver with a huge awesome battle but it lasted too short.

If Shazaam! doesn't work for me, I think I'll just skip the rest of the DCEU.

In that scene she never gave him her name I believe.
