Alright, here's a scatterplot of almost all the December films on Box Office Mojo (excluding current openers, N=198), and the films from May to August ("summer", N=800). December films are shown with blue diamonds, summer films are shown with red squares.

  2. I don't totally agree with "50% of TFA's previews will equal 50% of TFA's OW".   I understand the comparison, of course...  However, I feel that Rogue One has less up-front demand. More people willing to wait until Friday or Saturday to see it.

Perhaps my my judgement is clouded because I am one of those individuals who was willing to wait.

lancelot123 is my new favorite poster. Throwing out the best projections ever and tossing shade at peons with puny monitors.

I'm sorta rooting for Gods Not Dead 2 now.

I realistically don't see SW land being done until 2020. Pandora was announced in early 2011 and will open a full 6 years later than that. Cars Land was announced in '07 I believe and opened in 2012. 5-6 years is Disney's typical time-frame for completing a newly announced land. Not only that, but SW land is the biggest undertaking they have ever done outside of an entirely new theme park, so even at a faster construction pace it could take just as long. Disney is terrible about constructing, they like to draw it out to cut costs. Granted I could see them maybe trying to rush it for a 2019 opening with IX's release, but even if they throw a ton of money at it that's probably the absolute earliest it can be finished.

From what I've read...they are pushing to have the one at Disneyland CA done before episode 9. I'm assuming Florida's will be on a similar schedule. These were the demands of Iger to Imagineering.

  5. I'm hoping for a truly awesome 3D experience from this. I (unfortunately) was unable to see Avatar during its theatrical release. Though I've heard it was quite an amazing visual experience.

That at being said, I'll see Avatar 2 for that reason only. Hopefully the story is good too... I enjoyed Avatar.

Every time I bring up the fact that Avatar is having sequels, people always respond with "REALLY? Why!?"  From those I've spoken to it's pretty unanimous that a sequel is completely unnecessary. Of course opinions may be different outside my relatively small sample group.

  6. I've never seen a movie more than twice in theaters.... Until SW.   Saw it 6 times!  Each time was with a different group of friends or family members. One time was a work party I was paid to be at... I didn't go out of my way to see it 6 times, the opportunity simply arose 6 times... And I took each opportunity.

Most at of my friends have seen it at least twice.

Any movie that's at 800M in 4 weeks is getting repeat business. No use in arguing otherwise.

  7. I could see SW7 having less than stellar legs from this point. It burned off such a huge demand in such a short period of time. It's hard to imagine it performing like "normal" from here on out. Because let's face it... Nothing about its first few weeks was normal. But we shall see...

Those first 2-3 weeks were nothing short of legendary... 40 million dailies! Those were the days.
