  1. I think there is too much personal insults going on. mfantin is especially bad.  But edroeger at least can you put him on ignore and stop this. I dont see any reason for this. You can just agree to disagree and move on.

He started it and keeps going with it. Otherwise it doesn't happen at all. As I just said im done. Lets see if he can be quiet.Anyway. Looking like 1.5-1.6m mon thru thurs. 5m week possible.Didn't someone say vod was starting a week before dvd release

  2. Really? Is there something autobiographical in what you say? Or maybe you thought, "insulting his mother is the worst thing you can do to an Italian". LOLBTW, you have not answered my question. Is it because my posts make you angry? Richard Gere in right?

Italians are very good with mathematics. Over the last 2000 years we invented many of the engineering feats still in use today. You can't possibly be Italian. What stone age country did you emigrate from? Be honest, please.Idiocy gets under my skin. I corrected your post. Now I feel better. You're opinion is wrong. Most people disagree with you. Let it go manbino. We're done.
  3. I'm honored that your only posts in the last 15 days are in response to mine. But I do not understand one thing: if they are poorly written and you don't understand them, because they make you so angry? "You're so fucking easy, Raymond. Like a big baby with buttons all over. I push the buttons." Richard Gere / Andy Garcia in "Internal Affairs" "ragazzo kon cervello pikkolo" you speak Italian like an old German tourist.

nice movie quote. 'Bout time you said something witty.google sounds like the tourist.

  4. Unfortunately you don't update more your "to infinity and beyond" table, it ever lighted my way.

that was a projection table on 15% then 10% weekly drops when it was dropping less than 3% per week over the run. Not infinity, buzz boy. You really got to get your head str8 that it wasn't a prediction and that all went out the window when ads hit that they could watch it home for $5. Nearly everyone agrees that took the BO down. Just admit your wrong.I didnt call it official like you still do with your table where the dailies are ridiculously off.BTW. Those were keystroke errors and abbreviations, not grammatical errors like your nearly illegible posts. Use google translate ragazzo con cervello piccolo

  5. Welcome back, is this the same arithmetic book you used to predict 400m$? And what does it mean "cantvyou" and "str8"?

I predicted 400m? I said it was possible. My prediction was 325. It was on pace.but there is no way wed was 1.2m w a 48 multiplier. So why bother. [mod edit] Rysu was very clear and yet you still hold on to your hindsight filled commentary. The v is above the space bar and you need a lesson str8 too? You dont know what that is?[mod edit]

cantvyou get the wed multiplier str8. You want me you send you a third grade arithmetic book. Official, very funny
  7. Such a perfect syntax! Looks like another drop around 30%. Decreases seem steady and the alternance between great holds and average drops is nowhere to be seen. Everyone with a decent knowledge of box office can do a 2+2. If actuals remain around 3M, then the idea of the dvd announcement not being a major factor in Frozen's weakening won't be legitimate anymore.

yup. Tell it to the morons
  8. ;

This is a pretty ridiculous point of view. People don't goes to the cinema because in two months Dvd and Vod are released? It's absurd. Maybe after, like in North America.Really double digit drops happened after the super sunday discount day in the first of june (with about 700K 2-days admissions in 12th weekend) and continued with 14th sunday, when world cup started, moreover not in good way, for japanese team. When the effect of this two events ended we will see another time one digit drops and a progressive loss of screens and seats until for one reason or another Frozen will end its run.

You are incorrect, no need to go to an extreme and say ridiculous. Since you used absurd i will now have to call you Ray. 30 years ago you were more likely to see a movie in a theater when the vhs was a year away. Were you alive 30 years ago? How would you know the mindset. Once they tightened it up to 4 months a common thing you heard was " eh, ill probably wait a couple months to see that one at home. The attendance has increased only 10 % in 30years while the population has increased 40% in NA. It has an effect. Japan has maintained the one year buffer and their % of attendance to population has held. Just use a little common sense. Your living on a fixed salary and must watch your expenses. Your two children want to see frozen and you just saw an ad for vod coming in 1 month. Your saying its ridiculous that a parent would say we saw conan last month, I cant afford another $60 for another movie (for 3 w snacks), lets wait 4 weeks and watch it at home for $5?Case in point. A single mom friend of mine takes her daughter to the theater once in a while. when frozen was approaching a billion I saw her and asked if she saw it with Uma, that mothers and daughters globally love this movie.. She said :no, Uma wanted to see HGCF in dec, I cant afford the theater too often and I saw that itll be on vod soon. She'll have to wait a few weeks." If she thought that the dvd/vod wasn't coming for 9 months then she mite have taken her over the next few weeks. Capisce Ray?Ray, your saying that SB and GW couldnt burn off demand as the weekly remained strong after but one sunday discount day knock out the demand. PleaseYou dont have the intelligence to adjust the Wednesday multiplier by 20% to reflect the discount on your daily table and too lazy to adjust even after I pointed it out. How can you have an opinion on this matter.ridiculous, absurd and just plain stupid Ray
  9. So all-time #1 is totally out of question now. It probably wouldn't have gotten there even without the DVD release. What is the all-time #2 movie and its gross in yen?

after a huge GW, after 9 weeks in release and 13m admission it held flat for 3 weeks @ $13-14m. Extraordinary. It definitely had SA beat. The drops started after the ads came out for vod and dvd.Are you Ray Subers assistant?

  11. To be fair, that's far from the only difference between the two, and is more an effect of Haiti's troubles than a cause.  You can't save for the future when you're already starving in the present.  (Short synopsis of Haiti's history: everything a colonial power can do to screw over an ex-colony was done to Haiti.)

Lame argument. they took over the colony 200 years ago. The DR was also a former colony and independent for 160 years. The DR was actually a part of Haiti for 20 years. Haitians weren't starving 160 years ago. Haiti mismanaged their resources, the DR didn't. Same island, same resources, same circumstances but a well thought out approach makes the DR a much more livable place.Easter island cut down all their trees. No colonialist intervened there. They did it all by themselves. Then 30000 people starved. By the time Spain discovered it there were just 1500 malnurioused people living in caves on a morbid looking island that was once paradise.Humans are our own worst enemy. As disney is unto itself

Anyone know what the 14th weekend record is? I'm sure Frozen will have it since the old 12th weekend record was just ¥395. For that matter, what was the 13th weekend record? We never got that last weekend either, although we know Frozen has that too.

I assume SA has the weekend records from here on out. Frozen will take this weekend and should have next one too.
  13. Great analogy. It's important to look at the whole forest before focusing on individual trees.

if you take a look at google earth at Haiti and the The Dominican republic where the fence is that divides the island. Lush green to the east of the fence. 150 years ago, a TDR dictator heard about japan and made sure the jungle stayed intact w selective cutting. Haiti clear cut. Today TDR thrives and Haiti is a freaking mess.

  14. The question is how much of that 100M would go to Disney that $100M is probably about $40M for Disney and those combo-pack sales are already at $15.683M a month from release.

I think its closer to 50m and with the movie and marketing cost paid for its all profit.assuming they sell 2m dvds whether its july or dec, thats 80m rev. Then you have cost of dvd, marketing and retailer cut. 40m maybe? They foregoing 50m over 5 months to make it in 1month. I would take the 90m over 5 months. A friend of mine works for Oracle. At the end of a quarter they offer 40% off on $10m software packages to get 1 more penny to the bottom line for that quarter. They could sell that package for 3-4m more a few weeks later which bolsters the year as a whole but they want this quarter to look good. Its idiotic. Cisco intel microsoft and many others havent made all time highs in 14 years and others go bankrupt. Their strategy doesn't work. Another example throughout the centuries is lumber. They would cut all the trees down and the forrest doesn't come back. In some cases it turns into desert. Cutting 75% leaves the forrest intact and supplies more lumber in the years to come, but a corp wants that 25% this year, screw the future. Ironically, japan who waits a year to release a dvd to maximize profit in theaters and still sell 2.5m SA dvds, realized 400 years ago to cut only selected trees. To clear cut would kill the life blood of the island. To this day 60% of japan is forrest, unheard of in densly populated countries, that they still selectively cut. They think of long term profit and the repercussions of short term greed.

  15. Just from the first two weeks of sales it's already the fourth bestselling BD of all time. Since it's been out for over two months, and has regularly led the pack in sales, it's probably not too much of a stretch to expect that it's at least the second bestselling of all time, and may have overtaken Avatar. It's more difficult to get data on overall DVD sales, because really robust tracking and such is overall pretty recent (2009 or so), so many older titles don't have super accurate numbers that are easily available. Even so, The Dark Knight sold over 17m DVDs, and has over 2m in BD sales, so it's total combined is around 20m. Avatar's sitting around 17m combined. Frozen's one week sales are north of 7m combined, and it's probably not too much of a stretch to guess that after two months it's pushing north of 15m. It could even be closer to 20m, if DVD sales are taking up a larger and larger percentage. Suffice to say, it's probably in the running for top three, at least for the past five years of tracking. As far as all time video sales, The Lion King moved about 80m VHS tapes back in the 90s. Nothing will ever top that.

80m vhs? And it was released 9 months after it opened. There is a fine example. It had a second wind after a few months allowing it to make 50m more at the end of the run, not to mention it probably made more in the first 3 months bc people weren't thinking it would be coming on video soon. Video sales were gigantic. More people including a friend of mine would have seen frozen in feb if they knew it wasn't available on dvd for 6 more months. So it wasn't a matter of jus 10-20m at the BO after the release but much more before. Japan was hold in strong before the announcement. They're losing millions before and after the dvd. Boneheads.
  16. As has been said before, it isn't the DVD sales that kill movies in Japan, its the rentals (apparently huge). Though that presale number for Frozen is astounding. Definitely on track to be in the top few DVD sellers of all time, so it may pay off for Disney.

not going to pay off. Looking how SA and avatar kept running for months frozen would have made 100m more and the dvd sales would still be close the same number whether its july or December.
