Wow. One of the strongest weekends in a while. The Maze Runner barely dropped and held on to 1st. Gone Girl opened very strongly for a R rated film. Dracula also with a decent start, though not the best for a big blockbuster. Turtles, Boxtrolls and Planes all increased due to start of school holidays. And for your GotG fix, it now nears 4.5mil with a great hold.

In celebration of the opening,Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn tweeted out a translation of what Guardians of the Galaxy is being called in China. The name for Guardians of the Galaxy in China is Interplanetary Unusual Attacking Team.

  3. done. i have replaced it. gone girl has 0 chance of a win. didnt put hunger games, as my criteria was also 50% weight towards ave rating, i dont think hunger is going to get anywhere near a 9/10 ave rating. but other option included to cater for any anomalies.

Most of the films on the poll won't get 9/10 either. Just cause you don't think it's gonna get high ratings it doesn't go on the list? Isn't a point of the poll to see what everyone thinks. THG being a major release should be on the poll due to other films like Exodus, Interstellar being on it and the track record the film franchise has. Big Hero 6 could even be on the list as animated films have some of the highest ratings. Other should maybe for more lesser known films and anomalies you mentioned.

  4. Gone Girl

    2nd October

    65% Full

Very good response from the crowd.

    Trailers:

    Get on Up - Nothing

A Walk Among the Tombstones - A few sighs, Neeson in a Taken-like role again.

Interstellar - Nothing but my sister saying she'll watch in Imax with me (she hadn't heard of it before)

  5. It's pretty feminist, more so than the large number of "Trinity Syndrome" affected flicks like Lego Movie and TDKR. Elsa and Anna are emotionally complex women who each go through their own individual character arcs and end up at incredibly empowered places than they were at once the childhood tragedy devastated both of their carefree lives.

Yeah in that sense I agree with you.

  6. sometimes entertaining, often quite painful. and it's not feminist, good fucking grief.

    3.5/10

People probably just saw two strong female leads and said it's feminist, I don't really think too (haven't seen it in a while though). But it does teach waaaay better lessons to young girls than other Disney Princess films.

I enjoyed how it moved away from the classical princess story, suprised me along the way, nice humour and great songs I'd give it a A

Turtles opened in more screens, so it increased by 67%, should have a pretty great run. Step Up opened bigger than I thought. Lucy and Guardians still chugging along nicely. GotG should also beat Lego Movie next week to be 2nd in this years chart.

Lol just realised Sin City opened  :D
