  1. Kidman is out for Queen. I was expecting this to happen sadly. http://www.indiewire.com/article/berlin-review-why-queen-of-the-desert-starring-nicole-kidman-is-werner-herzogs-worst-movie-in-years-20150206
  2. I say that because he's been making the rounds for awhile. Whether or not he delivers the best performance, I think he will win for 2015. The film is getting a lot of buzz already. Hollywood wants DiCaprio to win at some point - even if he isn't the best of the year. For the record - I'm not a big fan of his. Phoenix for Her >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DiCaprio for WOWW. A lot of it boils down to the predictability of the politics behind who gets nominated.
  3. Technically, that is the wide release date. I expect the film to make the rounds at festivals and I highly doubt this won't be given a qualifying run given that it's the Coen brothers. I'd expect a limited release.
  4. For lead actors: Best Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant Jake Gyllenhaal, Southpaw Josh Brolin, Hail, Caesar! Matt Damon, The Martian Matthew McConaughey, Sea of Trees Joaquin Phoenix might also sneak in for the new Woody Allen. Bradley Cooper in Joy is a supporting role. I predict an obvious win for DiCaprio. Best Actress Meryl Streep, Ricki and the Flash Julianne Moore, Freeheld Cate Blanchett, Carol Carey Mulligan, Suffragette Jennifer Lawrence, Joy While Nicole Kidman could sneak in for Queen of the Desert, something tells me this could go the way of Grace of Monaco. Another possibility is Emma Stone for the new Woody Allen, but she will have to really impress I think. Mulligan is leading Suffragette, not Streep - she is just a cameo. The obvious for supporting actors: Tom Hardy (The Revenant) and Rooney Mara (Carol). I am also wondering about Rachel McAdams as a potential supporting nominee for Spotlight. It's going to be an interesting film regardless. You've also got Michael Keaton in there, who will likely win this year. And Adam Driver for Silence seems like a possible bet for supporting as well.
  5. Meryl Streep has confirmed that her role in Suffragette is a cameo. I took an acting class with her last May and she personally said "my part in Suffragette is inconsequential. I was only on set for a day." That said, she is in contention for Ricki and the Flash.
