Passed ¥20b at 8:52

Why not just celebrate this as the first ever opening week where a film made 300m each in NA and China, and crosses 1 billion worldwide?

Mildly interesting. Trending on weibo (China’s twitter), Scarlett Johansson becomes the first female actress ever to reach the ¥10billion lifetime gross in China.

Shall be around 535 by morning tomorrow.
The final number may actually exceed MH2 and become the highest ever by a whisker.

You meant "Plus the midnight previews", right?
Yes. Sorry.

Looks like it should land at around ¥530m-¥531m by 12 AM
The estimate by the popular weibo account (chinese twitter) @dianyingpiaofang for the opening day is ¥535m. Plus the presales, it is ¥724m or about $107.8m usd.

US$1 billion opening week worldwide looks very likely now.
Seems like a lot more people are joining the tracking of Chinese box office

¥93mn at 15:30. Shall go for ¥175-185mn full day.
Is ¥5billion still in play now?

205 sounds close. Maybe 210 if the midpoint is at 3pm today.
PS on track to clear 50m for tomorrow. Up at least 66%.
330m+ for Thursday
Friday could be 20% higher than wed with shows increasing to 46%
Has there ever been a tracking of the number of days a film consecutively exceed its opening gross? It seems likely that TWE will remain higher than $188 until this Sunday which is the 13th day of screening.

Around flat from saturday. Simply amazing

Yeah probably decelerated rapidly because tomorrow is a working day. What a waste...

TWE is now the lunar new year holiday box office champ, surpassing Crazy Aliens. This is much faster than RSA last year.
Any chance of it making at least $50m elsewhere?
-
Based on maoyan pre-sales for tomorrow, 7th Feb, TWE should take over as the box office leader.

It would be interesting to see if it can do so as early as today.

I have seen claims saying that the increase in total box office for the day is entirely due to ticket price hike from last year, while the actual admission hasn't increased, is there any legitimacy to that?
If that's the case, we're definitely reaching the end of rapid growth for Chinese market, still impressive performance though.
Based on 电影票房weibo account, as of 21:11, the attendance is 3 million fewer than last year. Seems like the price increase is most pronounced in lower tier cities.

Surprised this news is not recorded here for over a month. http://variety.com/2018/film/asia/china-box-office-global-biggest-first-quarter-2018-1202742159/

Maoyan is not so accurate as CBM, very often Maoyan adjusts its numbers based on CBM numbers, so 1 hour's increase on Maoyan is often useless.
Right now at 14:50 CBM shows ¥321.31M, and 23.5M per hour, if the speed remains stable it will reach 478M at 21:30, and probably another 25M where will cume to 503M($79.4M)
CBM is the official APP provided by SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television), ios users can find it by searching for '中国电影票房' in App Store, not sure about android
downloaded. It’s horribly buggy and slow on iOS...

Maoyan has disabled refunds to assist the authorities in the investigation of the allegations against UaT

1,25 mill for AIW 1 hour before midnight. Its going to be HUGE no doubt
Good to know given the chaotic promo by Disney and Marvel Studio in Shanghai. They actually had to issue an apology.

The number and ratings show
that in terms of movies at least, Chinese are more receptive to foreign language films than North America.

@ymblcza, how trustworthy is tieba these days? I used to visit them for insider news on game shows, etc. But I also noticed that more and more posts are using the site to spread conspiracy theories.
If this is indeed true, then there is really no point tracking box office in China. Time to say goodbye again

ORS is fudging massively, while DC2 and TMK3 are also fudging, no direct evidence about MH2 though.
The official responses from the DC2 and ORS can be found here in Chinese.
http://weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404209907548175298
In summary, DC2 apologised and ORS requested netizens to report if they found some cinemas fudging data.
My personal view is that there is no need for ORS to fudge. It is the best reviewed film by critics and audience. Some even declared it as a milestone movie. Personally, I am genuinely surprised that the censorship board did not request the film to cut away all the gruesome scenes. Probably the most adrenaline pumping Chinese film in a while.
@POTUS It’s been that long since I last posted? Thank you for the welcome.
21st Feb (est)
DC2 ¥292m/¥1.889b
ORS ¥264m/¥1.191b
MH2 ¥135m/¥1.700b
BB ¥48.4m/¥411m
MK3 ¥27.3m/¥613m
Est total for the day: ¥782m
-
ORS is likely to increase its gross for the 6th straight day. At one point today, it actually surpassed DC2.
16/2 - 122.7 million rmb
17/2 - 140.2 million rmb
18/2 - 175.9 million rmb
19/2 - 209.9 million rmb
20/2 - 229.1 million rmb
21/2 - approx. 206 million rmb at 1727hrs (while DC2 is approx 220 million rmb.)
Tomorrow will be exciting to see if ORS can finally take over as #1.

China Box Office Thread | Oppenheimer-August 30
in China At The Box Office

So far it appears that in spite of the trade war and Huawei ban, Chinese are not over-reacting. At least on weibo, they focus on gossiping the private lives of celebrities rather than nationalistic shoutouts.
