What about Kauffman's Anomalisa? The Academy loves stop motion.
-
are you trans?
Nope, I'm gay and a LGBTQA activist. I hope my opinions aren't coming off as ignorant.
-
Rayon was a rubbish stereotyped character given an even worse performance.
I mean, the whole cis actors playing trans character is ridiculous and just sick. But, I think it was a sensitive but touching performance and at least kind of representative of some of the struggles of being trans.
-
I thought Leto was fantastic as Rayon. It wasn't a glamorous portrayal, which I imagine Redmayne's will be and it won't be genuine.if Jared Leto can get an Oscar then I think Redmayne can easily get a second one for himself. The thing about these performances of transgender characters is that like none of the academy voters have the slightest clue as to how authentic the performances are.
I'm still at least 62% sure that Ansel Elgort is the name of some German fungal disease.

I don't think it is too much of a long shot! Especially if the DOR is considered a drama and Lawrence get pushed their.Just got outta train wreck. Freaking good. Really impressed with Amy Schumer. She deserves a lot of credit. I know it's probably a long shot, but she deserves a golden globe nomination for her performance in the movie. She made me tear up in like two scenes. Movie was really predictable, but I still enjoyed the heck outta it!
A. Might be my favorite movie of the summer besides inside out.
She really deserves any nomination coming her way!

maybe UNCLE will pull a Pacific Rim on me but it looks like shit
I fail to see how one can have fin while watching Kingsman
Kingsman is fun, but not good. So I'll almost give you that.

And Seventh Son, Ex Machina, Son of a Gun, Testament of Youth, and was cast as the female lead in Bourne 5. Also Tulip Fever and The Light Between Oceans (both still without a release date). Adding Man from UNCLE and Danish Girl. Vikander taking over the world. And I love it.
I bet The Light Between Oceans waits since it isn't in competition at Venice or Opening/Closing/Centerpiece at NYFF. Guess we have to wait until Telluride to be certain.
It would be silly to release this year. Vikander and Fassbender are both almost certainly getting nods in Danish Girl and Steve Job respectively.

But she's in Man From UNCLE
So is the consensus on this bird that that won't be any good? I think it looks fantastic and the screening have generated some great buzz.
Also, everyone stop what you are doing and go watch Testamant of Youth. "Star is born" performance for the beautiful Vikander.
-
Eddie looks gorgeous here and I have a case of Vikander fever. I can't wait for a trailer for this.
-
It hurts my heart for American Hustle to be so low.
-
So from now on Keaton won't rest until he wins his damn Oscar
According to test screening this is an ensemble piece and it shouldn't really garner acting moms.

You have Batman, Ray Donovan, Hulk, Dr Manhattan, Roger Sterling, and uh, the..girl from True Detective in a single movie.
I am in.
What a sad outlook on artist's careers.
It is awful that some really great actors only get compared to their most mainstream characters.

I am so excited for this. This looks intense!

Just when Tom Cruise had been written off as an action star, he makes a triumphant comeback — at age 53 —
Can someone remind me when this happened?

Too bad you cant.
Especially, I never insulted someone in this weekend thread.
Dude. Give it a rest. You are rude and offended one of the number gods. Just apologize.

Rth > Gopher

Keep in mind, Ethan can't see R-rated movies yet.
There is so much delusion on this board because people are all blind sided by their stanning... I think that's strange.

My money is on Stonewall being the bomb of the festival. Because regardless of Roland Emmerich being gay himself, the concept of him directing a movie like this is just...oy, this will not end well.
I don't know. The Program looks quite terrible.

Linkage?AY YO, AMA
I'll answer when I wake up tomorrow
Unless you mean on this thread. In which I ask: Was this good and is it niche?

What's considered better outside of the big 4 (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino) and The Departed?
Is Casino considered one of his best? My top four are Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfella, and Mean Streets. The Last Temptation of Christ is a clear fifth for me with Casino, King of Comedy being 6 and 7. Personally I found Hugo, The Departed and The Aviator are all a little better than Wolf of Wall Street.

The first one is alright. Kendrick and Astin pretty much save it.
The sequel is an absolute. Definitely the most fun I've had in theatres this year
This makes me heart sad.

This comes out two weeks after TIFF so I was planning on going to the premier, but it looks absolutely gorgeous.

As an oboe performance major, I always wanted a teacher like Fletcher (was that his name?) I respond well to that. This one is great:
I really really don't like how some use the idea of pursuing art as an excuse to be sociopaths to everyone else.
Related to that, I remember in a discussion on another forum many years ago which brought up the problems with the idea of the auteur. That there is something intrinsic about the person that should be lauded rather than the creative output. It seems especially pervasive in movies, where directors can get away with a LOT, but it's okay because the films they do are so great.
There's a big difference between driving hard to get a strong performance or whatnot and just being a terrible person. I wonder if those sorts watch Whiplash and think "Yes! That is how you have to be to get a good performance."
It is also why I quit music education.

The second is way better than the first
Sorry Ethan, that is so off base. The first will be remembered like Mean Girls is treated today. The second is tired and nothing new.

I don't think cult is the right word. It just kind of gained relevance and was increasingly seen by the public eye.
More like Shawshank Redemption, which is now a classic after a sofr box office rather than Repo! The Genetic Opera or Rocky Horror.
