  1. When something is not Star Wars or a story that everyone all around the world knows, internet backlash is huge deal.

Deadpool was so big because of all the internet support, people who didn't know what this is, just read how great and fun it was and went to see it.

You see movies like Creed or Straight Outta Compton with all this huge critical and commercial success in USA didn't do half the money they did there in the rest of the world, and at the same time you see all these movies that whitewash to fail as well.... it's really confusing.

Butler completely stayed away from Gods. He acted like it didn't existed and is instead promoting London Has Fallen everywhere. And I now understand why

He did an appearance on Today Show talking only for Gods of Egypt, interviews aboard e.t.c

I don't think he could sell GOE anyway.

He is the producer of London has fallen which costed 105 mil, it will be very interesting for him to earn that money but it's not like it will be an oscar bait.

Deadline's 2nd update estimate is $10-12 million, and one of the sentences in their write-up sounds like it was written specifically because of Lionsgate saying foreign sales helped cover the cost of the film, and they say everybody loses when there is a flop like this.

It's exactly the same thing they wrote for The Last Witch Hunter too,

but if you look the numbers the tax cover was 46% , so the real cost of this film even without presales is 75 mil.

There was no way people in USA was going to watch GOE , even if they were interested the media would have killed any interest by talking about racial and other staff, but maybe it can manage to make 65 mil OS.( so that people will not loose their money).

  4. Well i googled for reviews and there are two Asian and one Indian reviewer who liked the film.

Western critics will slaughter it for sure, lionsgate doesn't help with the attitude.

Didn't the director already apologize for whitewashing?

Whitewashing/racial articles get many clicks. No way they will leave this opportunity.

140m budget??!! LOL. There wont be this level of BOMB this year. I cant believe Alex Proyas made I Robot. That was a pretty enjoyable summer blockbuster. This turd takes ridiculousness to a new level.

Actually no, it's 75 mil in reality and from that 10 mil in USA..there are films with way more risk.

If it does make John Carter numbers it would be success.

To be honest i don't believe it will make more than 30-40mil dom, if it makes a 7 mil OW i will not be surprised.

Will there even be critic screenings for this?

    There is, today i think.

This film gets negative comments everywhere i dont know what headlines it must make, it hasnt been released to see how much it lost and they havent watched it yet. They make fun only of the tv spot.

Only a review from asia has been online.

Plus the wrap article wrote they money they too back/didnt spend before go to presales are 46% so the real money it has to get back WW is 75mil , 65 mil OS and 10 mil dom.

Nobody will loose much it will get articles only for the whitewashing

  7. pro.boxoffice say that it will open at $12,500,000 and be the second movie this weekend after deadpool.

A newspaper i just read had it at must see this week and wrote this could be the best gangster movie since The Departed.

People have really high expectations for this both in box office and quality.

The Other Woman was lame as hell outside of Coster-Waldau, who got all of the movie's biggest laughs. In addition to the "explosively shitting" bit, his meltdown at the end where everything came together and he started throwing a temper tantrum like a kid at Toys "R" Us was hilarious too. He needs to do more comedy instead of these crappy action movies that no one wants to see.

He needs to do more movies like Headhunters or Second Chance but in English (yes i know you have no idea what i talk about, but he was really good in both of them).

God's of Egypt hero is Brenton Thwaites, in the press interviews Butler and Waldau where together, as well as the girls but he gave interviews alone..

Bulter was originally third billed but he went with "with" as a matter of prestige i guess, in an early screening he has enough scenes, but yes the other two have more screen time.

He supports so much London has Fallen as he is also producer, he has more interest in getting the money...it's not a quality choice.

So what drug Lionsgate suits were on where their green lit this abomination ?

They will have profit with 40-50 million domestic? And with 46% tax rebates they need like 100 mil ww ??

If this was a better movie they would have that easily..

I find it hard to believe in Chastain's case. She is a twice Oscar nomm'd actress who has been in demand so why would she sign a deal like this for Crimson Peak ? She is also getting $5 million for this movie. My guess is that she signed the contract when Frank Darabont was involved and maybe her agents didn't let her out of the contract becaause of the $$$ when he left the movie. This whole thing that she is doing the movie because of Crimson Peak is just spin.

I think she just wanted to do an fantasy-action movie..she said that and she also said that she wants to do a comedy.

She is a very good actress and good actors usually try all genres.

I remember some saying Zoolander 2 would outgross Deadpool

I remember people saying Ryan Reynolds was a hated actor that would turn people off this movie

I remember people saying it looked too "juvenile" to succeed. As if most comedies are not juvenile

You can't blame people that didn't trust Reynolds after three comic based movies and numerous other films that didn't worked.

He was given more chances than most of the actors. Some people flop with original movies and don't get a second chance...

I am very happy for him, but this unexpected...he worked hard and this is the role of his life (it's obvious)

  12. Lionsgate said today that Gods Of Egypt has snagged a 60-second spot to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl pregame show. That makes sense for the Summit pic, which stars Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Rufus Sewell and Geoffrey Rush — it opens February 26. The Alex Proyas-helmed swords-and-sandals actioner centers on a mortal (Thwaites) on a mission to save the world, enlisting the god Horus (Coster-Waldau) in an alliance against god of darkness Set (Butler). Check out the most recent trailer here.

The studio and director have come under fire for some of the casting in the pic, which was conspicuously non-diverse. It prompted rare statements of apology from Lionsgate and Proyas.

CBS said Super Bowl ads are going for a record $5 million per 30-second spot. Co-
chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Patrick Waschsberger said during the company’s earnings call today that the movie “looks great,” and “we are expecting a very solid performance.” Lionsgate brass shot down rumors of the studio’s high exposure on the film, saying risk capital was under $10M.

20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount and Disney are also advertising in the game.

On Thursday, Lionsgate’s stock dipped in postmarket trading after reporting fiscal Q3 earnings that fell short of Wall Street’s expectations. Part of the problem: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2′s $650 million global box office was down from Mockingjay 1, despite costing more to produce.
