This is definitely ahead of Shang-Chi here at this theater. A lot of Shang-Chi's showings filled up several days before release. I expect more showtimes to be added soon. At least one more Dolby and one more Digital as we get closer to the release date.
Not much happening today. Just a few more seats sold. I'm gonna try and do Halloween Kills & Dune next. Updated Eternals numbers:
Dolby Cinema
6PM- 108/174

3D isn't really popular here so no change in those seats sold

My local Dolby show is already filling up very fast. Can already tell most of it's money will come from IMAX/Dolby/3D here

The TEAM tv spot hit 3.3 million views & has 96k likes. 👀

I feel like the dawn of the internet combined with Netflix changed things forever. People no longer feel the need to go to the theaters for every new movie unless it's some big event or if something is leading up to some huge payoff. Also The theatrical window is much shorter now, which I think plays a huge part also. There are soo many choices now. I personally love going to the theater. I saw Knives out with a sold out crowd & it was a great experience. But yeah I feel like if people aren't really invested in your franchise then they won't go. The pandemic kinda sped up the inevitable....

Where is Bond's young demographic? Is Bond not relatable enough to millennials and gen Z?

I hope the numbers keep going up for Venom! My theater was more packed and on par with Shang-chi business wise.

I saw a tv spot for this during the Dolphins/Raiders game on Sunday and it looked absolutely epic. Cinematography looked breathtaking. I was planning on Dolby but I might have to see this in IMAX.

I think people would take notice of Eternals, Marvel or not, cause Zhao is directing it. And she is hot right now. People want to see her next move/movie.
I think Black Panther absolutely should have won Best Picture. I can’t even remember what else was nominated that year, and I legit forgot Green Book won or existed until I stumbled upon a post a couple months ago.
I also think that, eh Fuck It, let’s tango:
I think instead of blaming Marvel for the [insert whatever complaint you have here], it might be worth examining how the Industry did this to itself. Just look at Oscar Season.
The worse thing the Industry did to prestige/adult/drama/whatever you want to call it films was create an “Oscar Season” where All of the festivals happen in a set schedule, then all of the films that get buzz from the festivals are released within a specific two/three month. All cause of Oscar Bait. So instead of spreading out those films through the year, you’re expecting people to watch like 15 movies in 10 weeks. It’s asinine. No wonder the movies don’t have lingering effect. No wonder the movies don’t create additional buzz. They’re nothing but commodities that are easily replaced, because the only goal is to win an award and then move on and win another award.
Shang Chi just made $80 million on Labor Day weekend. I think in a post pandemic world, we need to abandon the old release schedule. And hopefully by abandoning that schedule, the oscars will realize that movies which come out in March or July are just as worthy as movies that come out in December.
Or again, maybe they won’t, since the Oscars are nothing more than a PR stunt to gather more attention for the studio, and show off some pretty dresses for hit designers Fall Collection.
I also think that the Oscars don’t take place until like next March. And this is a very very long time to continuously have this discussion. So I would encourage folks to maybe go over to the sub forum specifically for award shows to continue this. Or maybe if you feel like you have said your piece, it might be Time to move on.
And since I’ve said my piece, I’ll see you all on the other side. 😂😂
I kinda agree. I also think there are too many awards shows leading up to the Oscars. Too many precursors that already tell you 90% of the time what is going to win which has made it so boring. Especially with the internet now and people being tapped in more than ever. There is no suspense, no excitement. This is why Parasite winning was such a breath of fresh air. I think the last surprising thing that the general audience can remember happening at the Oscars is The LaLaLand mix up lol.

Unless Eternals is a pop culture phenomenon and penetrates the casuals like Black Panther did or unless it's serious and grounded like The Joker, then I have a hard time seeing the academy nominating it. If it's ok then it will get your typical VE Oscar nom most cbm's get. Let's see if Chloe/Marvel delivers on this one.

Why you keeping acting this way?
Maybe it´s me not paying enough attention but seems like everytime i see you here, is making these type of posts which honestly doesn´t bring any discussion and sometimes even look like a dismiss of people with data.
Charlie and EmpireCity are both good at what they do and they´re help the forum bringing to us very on point numbers to talk about hours before official numbers come out.
That person is also the troll on box office Reddit who keeps popping up in the Shang-Chi threads talking crap about Charlie & Empire & the movie too.

Huh?
What is up with ERC?
Anyway I think the opening weekend for this goes over 100 possibly pre-covid. Matrix is mainstream and had the general audience on lock. I'm not sure I would compare it to Dune but yeah definitely would've been very successful as a theater only exclusive.

the sensitivity over there is astonishing. I feel bad for the MCU fans over there missing out on a legit great film.

This looks good. I'm excited

Saw this with a very energetic and enthusiastic sold out Dolby crowd. the crowd loved the film and the energy in there was great. Took my Mom & sister. They loved it and we are planning to go again soon. The fighting scenes were amazing, the best in the MCU imo. Loved the story and the action. 8.5 out of 10 for me. Some tiny things I would've changed but other than that it was pretty amazing. Very rewatchable movie. Might bump it up to a 9 once I get a second viewing in. Refreshing movie for the MCU.

But it's true...aside from Eternals, the Marvel movies are some of the most bland looking blockbusters.
It's true and idk why it is because it wasn't always this way. I enjoy the films but you can't help but tell something is off and murky.

I agree that boxoffice and hype are different things but this is in the position to pass The Avengers at least and be Marvel's #3 WW. The team up of 3 canon Spideys is an event like the team up of IM, Cap and Thor (and Hulk, BW,Hawkeye) in 2012.
And it's never been done before which is THEE hook. Which is what happened with the Avengers in 2012.

Thee event movie of 2021 coming soon

Just saw a news segment on my local channel covering the trailer. That hasn't happened since Endgame. Highest grossing movie of 2021 incoming...
