Why $200 million less than the first? I thought this would do as well if not better than the first.

I don't understand how it can be at $20.7 million on Friday internationally but only up to $42.4 million by Sunday? It did $21.7 million on Saturday and Sunday? That doesn't seem right.

How did it gross $200 million on Saturday and Sunday? It only grossed $83 million on Friday, the numbers don't seem right?

But Resident Evil for example went from $17 million to $162 million! That's why I thought it would do a lot better.

Why is Star Wars not big in China? What is the expected opening weekend, about $50 million? I thought this film could do $200 million so it's disappointing that they're so far behind everyone else.

Oh I see, i'm with you all now lol. It's Box Office Mojos fault as this page says OW $182 million, when you click on it, it says $63.5 million! So really it's on par with the last film. And I never said it's disappointing, just less than we all thought.

It is impossible to compare one opening to the other.
By the second Sunday (8 days), F7 was, more or less, at 1.5b Yuan ($246m multiplied by 6.2, which was the ER by April 2015). F8 will have reached that amount tomorrow (after 4 days), or Tuesday (5 days). Probably some of us got excited too much with initial presales about beating SW OW record outside US, but 190-195m is a brutal record, no matters how you look at it.
If that's the case it's even worse! $180 million from Sunday-Tuesday was amazing, I didn't know it opened on a Sunday (what a strange day to open on). So 2 years later from Friday-Sunday OW it really should have been higher, am I wrong? What does everyone think the film will end on, will it beat F7?

It made $180 million OW back in 2015, so I thought it would do a lot more than $200 million. Didn't it have higher presales? I never said it did badly, it's done amazing, but not as much as everyone was expecting.

I thought FF8 would gross over $200 million in China OW? A lot of people thought $250 million was virtually locked, so I guess it's under-performed.

Can someone tell me what the official final numbers were for Resident Evil? I know it's over $161 million and 1112 million yuan, but is there official numbers anywhere?

Looks like we won't have any more updates as it closed in China yesterday with a total of $161.44 million. Sony didn't report any international gross on Sunday but the-numbers.com have the gross at $280,451,649 but Pro Box Office have it at $277,010,970.
