    July was a solid month. Homecoming was a solid A, Dunkirk and Apes nailed it (A+), even Valerian was a pretty solid B. Only Emoji sucked. Hopefully I can catch Blonde.

    I am actually okay with Emoji making money. Remember animators have families too. Hopefully SPA makes better movies though.

    In my perfect world, all The Lego movies would do $150M+ OW and $400M Domestically with $1B WW.

    Thankfully a certain family film in September will benefit from weak family movies both reception wise and performance.

    Even though I disliked Emoji, have you seen it?

    I think the main problem with SPA and Sony as a whole is Rothman and excutives. Rothman has been notoriously known for being filmmaker unfriendly and was responsible for certain bad movies. I feel like Emoji might have been meddled with. I think some more time would have done this good after all this was the fastest thing Sony put into production. Hopefully the big change they made this June pays off and isn't too late.

    For as much shit people give Illumination on here, I would honestly watch any one of their films except for Hop rather than Emoji.

    Is Cars 3 good? And how would you rank it compared to other Pixar movies?

    I think if they didn't meddle with it (which I think you can tell) or gave Emoji a bit more time, I think it would have been a better movie.

    Depends on OS but $250M WW seems likely for it. 2017 outside of DM3 is 2011 all over again for animated movies except this time they're performing weaker OS.

    Thing is Emoji is not godawful, or even in the top 15 worst animated movies but it's so lazy it feels like a cash grab.

    True. Also I think Emoji despite the bad WOM among adults can leg it out to $80M-$100M.

    Even if it's not ambitious, they can still be funny and work, that's why KFP1, the Madagascar movies, Shrek 2, Rio, DM1, Ice Age, and HT1 and other animated comedies work, that's why Illumination (even though I have mixed feelings on them) has lasted so long. I mean I get animated movies are targeted first and foremost for kids but it shouldn't have to just entertain them only.

    Animated movies not have to be Pixar level of deepness. Some of the best ones work as full comedies. Like Kung Fu Panda, Despicable Me, Rio, Shrek 2, the Madagascar franchise, and numerous more. Not all have to be straight comedic either, some can be pretty mature, strong, or ambitious pictures like Rango, Coraline, and Owls of Gahoole.

    I don't want Emoji to flop though, since the animators not the executives that obviously meddled with it will get the short end of the stick. It's very run of the mill and it's not even in the top ten worst animated movies, and that frustrates me, even Minions gave some good laughs. I'd say it's probably a D/D+. On the bright side, Puppy was a fun short.

    I mean. It's certainly better than something like Smurfs 1 and 2 on the SPA spectrum and I do agree that a 6% on RT is unfitting (19%-30% sure) for it and the fact the people are overreacting about the death of cinema. At least my cousins enjoyed it. Emoji's biggest crime imo is that it's so lazy.

    Emoji makes Minions looks like UP. Fortunately it was not as bad as NOTN but it was awful.

    So I'm at the theaters with my little cousins to see Emoji and including us, only 10 seats were sold and it starts in 20 minutes.
