Risky Business isn't very ethical and yet it's a classic.

Bullock in at least a semi-appealing looking rom-com is probably the only one who can still really get comedies to do much at the box office.
And nothing against her, but J Law has not been relevant for a decade. The studio was insanely stupid if they paid her $25m for this, they deserve the flop.
Lost city had a 70m budget and didn't get total a 200m worldwide.

Getting an original comedy to 20m would be a feat...I guess the obsession with IPs clouds that.

15M for NHF and 6M for Asteroid City seems about right.

When was the last time a weekend thread where a DC film opened up, went drama/controversy free?
At this point I need to start making my low end predictions my high in predictions when it comes to DC.

any guesses on the turn around? Iger or they're trying to lift the box office numbers with more releases?
-
The 2.2m looked odd...maybe the italian box office isn't totally dead. The world cup starts at 16:00 local time it might not be a big factor.

Wait, the previews Started on Tuesday and they are putting it all together as a regular 3 day weekend? Lol
yeah two days of "fans" previews. Just a bit sad from a box office perspective...

Is Indonesia #11, which means less than $25.7M or are they forgetting it again?
Deadline says #11 Italy $24.9m, Indonesia #12 $24.6m.

In the meantime La befana 2 (the first made 7 million) debuts with only 30k on the first day, I almost can't believe that all the December releases apart from Spider Man were a complete disaster...
And those of January (Matrix, Me Contro Te 3, Belli Ciao, The King's Man) certainly won't do better
House of Gucci still number two means the new releases just bombed.
La Befana #s is so bad, #7 overall...just wow.
West Side Story #9 not even 300k euros. Diabolik was heavily promoted and it's just under 2 million with a reported budget without marketing of 10 million. Absolutely shocking. Spiderman's performance is very special as in the rest of the world.

I remember the doom and gloom of Homecoming second weekend drop and how bad 334m domestic total was. Now the third movie of the trilogy has already 500m dom. For sure they should have listened those people saying nobody wanted new spiderman movies.

Forbes is saying 26m not sure if heavily rounded
edit: Nevermind it is.

spidey finishes at 25m euro possible?
not sure. January 1 it's a big movie going day and falls on Saturday so it should have a great hold.

€ 1.225.192 this is this weekend? (Fri + Sat + Sun)?
so it is the dissapointing weekend for all movies (similar to the north america market)?
I would say worse. Spidey numbers are very impressive considering the state of the market. Around 20m would be great in normal times imagine now.
Total box office Boxing day (euro)
2018: 7.3m
2019: 8.8m
2021: roughly 3m

1 SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME 15/12/2021 € 1.225.192 155.659 € 17.017.177 2.248.474 Good news: 1.2m euros. 17m euros total. It'll enter top50 with 20m euros with all the big hits.
Bad news: the rest of the market. House of Gucci is second with just 412k euros. The totals are just sad to see.

It doesn't matter whether Americans celebrate boxing day or not, the point is that the day itself certainly acts as a holiday. All the uber-blockbusters ($500m+) released in December had boxing day being higher than Christmas day (Titanic, Avatar TFA, TLJ, RO) or just slightly lower (TROS) irrespective of WOM or the calendar configuration.
I don't get why you keep insisting all those movies didn't have covid to deal with...

The Last Jedi's 67% drop is looking much better now. It had Christmas Eve but no Christmas or boxing day in its second weekend.
I think just like how Endgame showed that an A+ movie can have average legs, NWH is showing that a December opener can also have average legs. Marvel event movies are becoming very frontloaded.
TLJ didn't have idk like covid...

Safe to say you can throw away any pre pandemic Xmas comparisons. Also there are new rules: wearing only fpp2 masks and food&drinks consumption isn't allowed anymore.
-
I know a lot of people that took covid tests to attend family dinners, lots of New year's events got cancelled. Even if it misses 700m so be it I'm surprised people are complaning about it. Last year theatres were shutdown so pretending normal xmas patterns a year later is too much.
There is zero competition in January and February who knows maybe it could recover.

I think whatever the final number ends up with, we can +20% of that for the no/pre-pandemic number. Covid is hitting internaltional market harder than domestic currently.
also some countries in Europe allow only vaccinated people in theatres so that's another thing to consider.

proper teaser...hope it's great. Not sure about trailer views given a lot of people have seen it mmm..

"Even with Christmas falling on a Saturday, which means a slower Friday due to Christmas Eve, industry estimates have Spider-Man: No Way Home falling around -45% in weekend 2, assuming all market situations are normal given the Omicron swirl."
Deadline, isn't it very optimistic?

Passengers was an original sci-fi movie that did 300m worldwide. I haven't seen anyone trying since. No Hard Feelings original raunchy comedy - no comps after the pandemic.
