The fall of Star Wars from THE giant to just another giant among giants is extremely sad to me as a die-hard fanboy. I'm not liking some of the stuff from the reactions I'm seeing, but hopefully this installment is able to save enough face that I can still get star wars content for years to come.
Star Wars was third fiddle behind Potter and LOTR during the prequel era. Being second fiddle to Marvel is a step up in comparison.
Hell you could even say Star Wars was fourth fiddle during the prequel era behind Potter, LOTR, and Spider-Man.- 1

Why are people expecting a drop, especially such a harsh one? TROS will be no competition. I think it does around the first one
Tracking says 40m opening for this and 205m opening for TROS though....

Really can't believe how blind some of you can be.
Villeneuve can't do fun even if his life depended on it.
He propably is one of those who truly think this is a curse word at the movies.
This movie will live and die depending on its tone.
Somehow I doubt Villeneuve will do some soul searching and discover he has some JJ Abraams or James Gunn in him.
Also, can you make a fun version of Dune, Villeneuve or not ?
I don't know ...
And by fun , I don't necesseraly mean jokes ( ah ah big worms, so funny), but making a movie entertaining, engaging, with a sense of adventure, with likable characters.
All traits absent frm Villeneuve's filmography.
His movies are engaging but certainly not in the pop corn way.
Dennis, are you gonna make your Dune movie for movie buffs & yourself or for audiences ?
Or strike a miraculous balance between both.
Your move, Dennis.
Dune is not meant to be light-hearted or pulpy like say the MCU or Star Wars. It's a pretty serious dramatic sci-fi story that is a parable for the Middle-East. There really is no humor to it at all. So his style fits the tone of Dun very well.
If it was fully of quippy characters it wouldn't be Dune. This is meant to be a sweeping epic. Dune has more in common with Lawrence of Arabia than Guardians of the Galaxy.

Grace Randolph is great and I don't know why you have her on that list. She is great
Great if you think her having a racist meltdown about Disney "race bending" dogs by hiring Tess Thompson to voice Lady in Lady and the Tramp is great movie analysis I suppose. She has also gone on weird rants about how "SJWs" and "socialists" are ruining America.
She is crazy, to put it mildly. She's the Fox News of movie criticism lol.- 1

Do we bring up Grace Jones quitting or not?
The only source is The Sun which has a history of making up fake Bond stories. The fact no one reputable reported her being in it (let alone quit) means this is almost certainly yet another of the countless made up junk about Bond the Sun reports for attention/clicks.

Yeah, pretty much. Now that Sony knows what they have in Jumanji, not surprising that they they got in ahead of Star Wars this year. Screams confidence.
It helps Star Wars more than it hurts Star Wars if anything. Star Wars coming out afterwards with a free path for a few weeks is better than having Jumanji come out right after it.

"The Next Level"? OK, I get it's a video game/board game but a little lazy on the title, lol. With that said, looks really fun. Was unsure how the story was gonna go but it looks like they upped the adventure so the "Sequel Rules" are being followed pretty well. LOL @ Danny and Danny. I still feel a Week before TROS was the right spot but I understand the move back to Christmas as that worked well against TLJ. Overall should do good guys. I'm expecting a drop for sure domestically but still should get those Holiday Dollars. I was unsure if it was gonna make the deadline based on reports they were still shooting this summer.
They moved Jumanji from a week before TROS to Christmas?

The guy Forest Whitaker plays in Rogue One came from one of the shows
Yep. And Forrest Whitaker played the character in the animated series Rebels as well.
Lucasfilm doesn't silo the movies from the shows like Marvel, because unlike Marvel they are all done by the same studio. -

They don't cross over the shows and movies because only the hardcore fanboys care about that shit. The GA is probably going to be confused af when Maul appears.
Well they do cross over shows and movies now :). Because Lucasfilm just went all in on Maul trusting the audience is aware of the backstory for how he survived from the tv media.

Yeah, I'm not too sure they'll keep to cartoon canon considering movies still have far bigger reach and from GA POV Maul died in TPM.
@CoolioD1 So how's Lando's much advertised pansexuality?
Solo pretty much proves they will keep to cartoon canon as they have Maul in it due to his appearance in the cartoon with the same voice actor as the cartoon.
Not to mention Lucasfilm made it very clear that everything from 2014 on wards will be 100% canon. The Maul vs. Obi-Wan battle was in Rebels in 2016ish. -

oh my god. whatever. he was on some cartoon that's great. at least the agents of shield villains stay on agents of shield.
Not really comparable. Marvel Studios has no involvement in the television shows. Lucasfilm produces the Star Wars shows themselves. It's all done by the same production studio so things clearly cross over more and will continue to do so.
George Lucas himself said The Clone Wars tv series in his view was equally as important as the 6 saga films for example. -

ok so if darth maul can't be in the obi wan movie that's COOL.
so i hope this fucking bombs like you guys are saying it will so we don't have to put up with darth maul in a sequel and that little tease can go in the pile with tim blake nelson's the leader in incredible hulk.
still liked the movie btw.
We have had tons of Maul content since they brought him back from the dead, not like this appearance is really that weird or surprising given how much we have had him in the television series' so far.
Lucasfilm treats the tv content on the same level as the films, this isn't new. -

This movie is doing just utter shit at the moment...
With usual Star Wars previews multiplier, that's like a $70m 3-day, add a bit for MD and it's like $75m tops
70 mil 3 day and 5 mil on memorial day?

Guys Maul can't appear in the Obi-Wan movie.
Maul came back from "the dead" in The Clone Wars animated series.
Maul and Obi-Wan had their duel in Rebels set roughly 2 years before ANH. Obi-Wan killed him in that episode. And it was made VERY clear they had not encountered one another since The Clone Wars.Anyone telling you Kenobi will face Maul in his film doesn't know what they are talking about.

The reactions on BOT alone shows the movie is quite polarizing to say the least.
What would better? Everyone agreeing a movie is "decent" or half thinking it is one of the best films in the franchise and the other half thinking its one of the worst?
We are in the second example right now. People insist its one of the best while others insist it is one of the worst. Very little in between.- 1

The thing that is really interesting is how large the gap is in the two sides on this film.
It's either one of the best films in the franchsie or it is one of the worst. Almost no one in the middle.

SHUT THE FUCK UP THEY ARE ALLLLLLLL TROLLS IT CANT BE TRUE WHATSOEVER
They without question filled with many trolls. Critics, the ones who aren't bitter old men clinging to their precious nostalgia are near universal in their praise of this as one of the best films in the franchise.
But that is beside the point. No one is going to agree here. Lets get back to the numbers.

I think many people forget the plot Twist in ESB came to full fruition in ROTJ.
As a result, any issue over that plot twist back then was elevated with a great conclusion where Vader Saves his son with some of the best scenes in the entire Series.
ESB pre-ROTJ was a movie that had very mixed reception. ROTJ retroactively made people like ESB.

This just shows me out incredibly out of touch you are.
I have been to galaxy's edge 4 times in the past 2 years....little kids especially little girls LOOOOOOVE Rey. They flock to her and dress as Rey all over the parks.
Rey is *easily* the most cosplayed character at the last few Star Wars Celebrations too. Again, especially with younger girls.
Adult nerds keep making the same mistake over and over thinking Star Wars is about them. But it's not. Rey is an very popular with the actual demographics that are the future of Star Wars fandom.
Making Rey the lead of the post-TROS movie was the safest and most logical choice they could have made.
