The only consolation here is that this is a better Monday number and drop than FURY OF THE GODS.
Blue Beetle also had a better drop than Black Adam so... minor win? 🙃

Just came back from the movies (Blue Beetle is amazing) and was talking to one of the employees. She said the theater may close early Sunday due to the tropical storm. Anyone in the LA/OC/SD area hear anything similar?

Why? I'm not stating anything particularly weird here, 6.7 off 87% is an extremely low ratio (fwiw flash had 6.3 off 64%!!) which pretty much means lots of bare passes, very little raving in there
Well it's 6.9 with 87% now with 53 reviews so at least the average is going in the right direction

Within the article it states that multiple nonprofits plan on buying out theaters to give to community members and school children

One thing to keep in mind with tracking numbers in August, particularly in these second tier markets which are naturally more variable, is the impact of schools being in session for Thursday night showings. They've already opened in Orlando, Jacksonville & Phoenix, while Raleigh and Minn-St Paul are still in summer, and show higher relative numbers.
Mostly with Keyser in that the MTC1 numbers suggest around $3.5M or so in previews for Blue Beetle (~65k finish), perhaps dragged down a bit by those open school markets being softer/finishing weaker
To add to this, here in SoCal LA Unified (second largest in the nation) started school Monday (yesterday). A bunch of school districts in Orange County will start school today.

Isn't Dune moving though? So it'll get IMAX automatically
I just don't see WB giving up 5-6 weeks worth of Imax exclusivity

Barbie doesn't need PLF, the next 3 months has very light competation.
The next 6 weeks should be fun to follow, with the expected Labor Day boost.
I think theater counts are more important, I'd love to see Barbie stay above 3000 theaters come week 10 like Top Gun 2

That 1 single tracking right now is pointing to below 20m OW which would be one of the lowest for a modern SH movie and for DCEU (except WW84 but that was during Covid). How low was your expectation that that is not as bad lol
To be fair it's above tracking estimates

Thought Barbie was a sub-10 film in China before release so for it to end up in the 30-40 range is pretty great tbh even if didn't blow up like these first few weekdays seemed to indicate
No one saw Barbie doing relatively well in China. WB didn't push it and even local theaters didn't think much of it. You saw screen expansion during opening weekend to make up for the demand and great WoM. Missed opportunity by everyone involved

Just found out the Richmond Palladium is re-opening as Cinemark Longmeadow, effective tomorrow. That was one hell of a fast turnaround from Regal shutting it down on July 26th to Cinemark re-opening it this week. That's great news for people who enjoy the IMAX & PLF screens, bowling alley, and so forth at the place.
In my area (Orange County, CA) the local Regal was closed but will soon reopen within the next couple weeks under Cinemark. Maybe Cinemark is gobbling up some of the shuttered Regal/Edwards locations.

150 marketing budget for Barbie would be insane, I don’t really get it when social media was so much of it.
The budget all went into those life-sized Barbie boxes at every theater 🙃 Considering how ridiculous the lines were for just that during opening week, I'd say money well spent lol

It's amusing to see Snyder AND David Ayer support Blue Beetle while some (many?) of the Snyder stans are having absolute meltdowns. It's actually kind of pathetic to see.

from presales 18.5-19 oppy. 32 barbie.
That early Barbie Saturday number looks incredibly underwhelming.

In their Friday night write up, Deadline stated the weekend total box office would be $160-170m. Um Deadline might be a tad off because the top three movies alone will be north of $160m+. Someone doesn't know how to add lol

(...) it’s another sexy $20M+ day for Barbie with an estimated $21.4M on Thursday (-7% from Wednesday)
Oppenheimer made $10M yesterday, -6% from Wednesday, for a first week of $127.8M. Again, in the face of Barbie, that’s an excellent hold. Barbie is expected to gross around $70M in weekend 2, Oppenheimer is around $35M. We are hearing both pics are looking at the best second weekend presales ever.
AHAHAHAHA
With those Thu numbers, what kind of collapse are they anticipating on the weekend for fuck's sake?
I'd love to see Deadline's reasoning for a $70m Barbie weekend off a $21.4m Thursday. There's lowballing and then there's what this projection is, ESPECIALLY when they claim "best 2nd weekend presales ever" 🙃

isnt it losing all plfs to haunted mansion?? no imax no dolby cheap tickets won't it affect the gross heavily compared to past july releases like dark knight?
My local Regal still has Barbie on RPX screens throughout the weekend
