  1. Surprised by how much I enjoyed this, considering this kind of fan service usually has me rolling my eyes into the back of my skull. Chemistry between the three Spider-Men was soooo good, and Dafoe killed it, but when doesn't he? Couldn't see shit during most of the action sequences, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise considering how fucking bland that sequence on the bridge with Doc Ock looked. Can't help but think how good this movie could have been in the hands of a director with... any sort of distinctive style. A really good movie, despite all that, though. Now gimme that Spider-Man 4 with Tobey and John Malkovich as Vulture and Raimi back behind the chair.
  2. Genuinely got overwhelmed by this one. About midway through the Tonight (Quinet) I just straight up burst into tears and was pretty much a goner from there until the credits rolled. So much love and care put into every single frame. Spielberg at the absolute top of his game. Only two other girls in my showing who made an effort to sit on polar opposite ends of the theatre to one another.
  3. If this does become an ongoing trend where the only movies that gain any sort of traction in the theatres are Marvel movies, then it's a terrific sadness. It's also a really worrying precedent to set. All movies, regardless of how well they're doing, need that sense of competition. When you'e on top for so long, and nothing else touches you, you start to stagnate and get complacent. It's all anecdotal of course, but I can personally feel how lazy Marvel has become of late. Compare any Phase 1 movie to any Phase 4 and it's night and day. They just churn these out, knowing the audience will be there regardless and it all feels like it's on autopilot. And that's sad to me, because I love the MCU stuff pre-Civil War. I wish I could feel that effort on screen today.
