Waltz monologuing ido's backstory is so good

One day there will be a good Hollywood anime adaption ( my guess is the one piece series from but that could be my bias for the series ) and then the floodgates will open

I think what a lot of anime and manga fans misunderstand is you have to aim for the general public when you have large budget and some things that work in the culture of Japan don't work in the culture of the west. ( like Hollywood won't touch the Fate series due to it's original release as a well..)

I really wish James Cameron directed this and it came out a few years earlier. Tonally it's a great counter to the dull and angsty YA movie boom from the late 00s to 2017

I enjoy both the film and the manga. They are entirely different tonally but that is what makes adaptation fascinating in Hollywood. As for the ending that is from the manga itself

The look of iron city is fantastic. I totally forgot Jennifer Connolly was Ido's wife in this.

You don't see a lot post Apocalypse set films have an optimistic tone. Not a nitpick but the film cuts some bits where Dr. Ido awakens Alita and then scavenges for the other parts of her body. All while carrying her head on a makeshift backpack

Ok a couple of thoughts on ailta so far: As much as I love Christoph Waltz in the role Dr. Ido didn't need to be Whitewashed Alita look feels off from the manga. In it her design is more doll like
