It's funny to see the trolling in here.

Yeah, the anti-MCU circle jerk going on in this thread is pretty funny.  Especially considering this was supposed to be the "weekend of positivity" and all that.

Well, I'm positive DS2 is going to do pretty good, box-office wise.  I'm positive that theaters are pretty happy for some normal business again.  And I'm positive we'll be seeing the same crabby people saying the same crabby things again in a couple of months.

their goal is to make sure that every movie is good, not that every movie makes 1 billion

I'm a big Marvel Studios fan and am happy they make quality films...but trust me, they would rather every movie make a billion, good or not.

TDKR is arguably the best Batman film ever then. I'm not sure if this or your "Jon Watts is the best Spider-Man director" comment is more baffling.

It means, in his opinion, this is the best Spider-Man film he's ever seen.  Not sure what's so "baffling" about it.

Thanks for the nice numbers.  Summer finally generating some optimism at the box-office.  Spidey, Alladin, Toy Story, Annabelle, Yesterday, Rocketman and Spring-holdover Endgame all running strong.

I finally saw FFH yesterday and wow! It is remarkably underwhelming.  Unfortunately the movie as a whole is just not that memorable. 5/10.

Sorry you didn't like it.  Hopefully the next movie you see is more enjoyable for you.

I disagree and found the movie utterly charming and thought the villain was very compelling.  I'm happy it had a strong first week at the box office.

you can beat this to death till next avengers movie releases and we will still be discussion the "short legs" of Endgame.

Yeah, but when a movie makes 800M+ domestic and 2.7B+ WW we'll just drop the mike and call it a day.

  9. I think that anything in the 50M+ range is a very good opening for DP.

As a non video game fan, there wasn't much this movie was going to offer to me, besides the Ryan Reynolds hook, and I wasn't much looking forward to a PG version of the Reynolds charm.

Also, the movie was fighting for the youth audience that is still being held onto a bit by A:EG, so the timing didn't help.

With that in mind, I think this was a fine opening weekend for this.

  10. Weekdays falling a bit lower than my initial projections, but as other's have said it opened so high that demand had to taper off faster than what we consider "normal".  The film was marketed as a must-see-on-opening weekend event and that's how the public responded.

That said, I still have this legging it out to 885-900M, which is near a 2.5 multi, and a crotch-load of money...

That it's, imo, an epic and satisfying film, is pretty nice too.

I know we are getting into the minutiae of the box office here but I don't really think it matters all that much what legs are like 4 endgame. It's slaughtered to bloody pulp the opening weekend record and it's going to take the world wide record. It doesn't matter if it makes 900 million or 850 million the movie is a bonafide global smash.

Wish I could "like" this more than once!!!
