Don't you just hate it when your joke goes over everyone heads

So i watched this at home after seeing no trailers and wow. We start off with a bit of star trek, delve a little into total recall before being lunged into Fury road.... on the moon, and it's only been 40 minutes. What is this masterpiece? As i followed Brad Pitt's pin point Ryan Gosling expression through a journey of interstellar visuals and face eating space monkeys i begin to wonder what mystery lies ahead.
We finally get toward the end of the film and i begin to realise this Liv Tyler seems to be a curse for boyfriend's fathers in space. No wonder Brad wanted nothing to do with her. As the film comes to its Gravity esque closure with a bit of space surfing and nuke riding i begin to think this jumbled parts of all those great space movies we love had just been blended into a cocktail of juicy sci-fi goodness, and i loved it.
That being said i can see why this movie flopped. A sci fi movie attracting sci fi fans with a synopsis surrounded in mystery of looking for alien life, and the underlining message is fuck exploration, cherish what we have rather than reaching into the unknown. That would be like if Interstellar took the characters to the wormhole and Cooper just went 'shall we just go home? I Miss my daughter'

Why get John Cena if you're just going to leave him out of the marketing

And when he finally gets to the Major it's Dr.Strange.
I really think having relatively unknown actors as the leads in this film was a good idea . Not that Holalnd could not have played the role well, but he brings some baggage with him.
Definitely agree with this. Sometimes an Unknown actor brings you into the world and makes it more relatable. Like what they did with Avatar, would have been hard to be fully immersed in a never seen before world if Leo was the main lead

FYC Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress (Cecile de France), Best Supporting Actor (Edouard Baer), Best Cinematography, Production & Costume Design (if you dig perverse period pieces like Dangerous Liaisons and The Favourite I highly recommend this one. Was released as Lady J on Netflix)
Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress (Anna Pniowski, who would also have been locked for the best breakout shortlist if anywhere near as many people had seen this as, say, Leave No Trace)
Best Picture, Best Actor (Andre Holland), Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing
Best Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting Actress (Agyness Deyn), Original Screenplay, Ensemble, Cinematography, Editing, Sound, Production Design
Best Supporting Actor
Was she the mean jerk in Get him to the Greek?

This would make for a decent Best Picture winner in my books (certainly a big step up from the movie they crowned last year) but I'm laughing at the thought of a whole bunch of directors looking at Best Picture wins for Birdman and this within the last five years and beginning to plot their own "one shot" attempts at Oscar glory.
Green book was certainly a step up from The Shape of Water which was instantly forgotten upon release

Mendes has been ripping off Nolan for years now.
Time to pay the bill Sam.
There is only one british filmmaker superhero and his first name is Christ(opher).
So true, especially with Skyfall
The 5 minutes dogfight in Dunkirk was better shot and more impressive than anything in 1917 though as an overall film i can see why some would prefer 1917.

I loved Snatch and Lock Stock, hope this is similar. Brad pitt gave his career best performance in Snatch, disagree? Ill fight you

I remembered Darkness run more. This one I don’t remember the marketing for This one but the summer of 2009 was insanely crazy! How many people remembered Terminator Salvation was projected to be one of the biggest films of the summer?
Marketing for ST09 was brilliant. Trailer 3 really sold it imo. Such an awesome year for Sci fi with D9 and Avatar too

Guys everyone knows the biggest draw is Andy Serkis

His star power is summed up in 2 words: Tony Stark. and 2 more: Iron Man. That's basically star power today. Your franchise character. Means people won't follow you around if you don't play your franchise character.
The only real star powers now are relics of the past eras such as Leo. Hollywood thought JLaw would be the new star power but that fizzled with the end of Hunger Games proving once again that franchise is everything.
There are added values, though, actors who cannot open alone but power up as a group. Knives Out, for example.

60m for BB3? After 17 years it just goes to show how much of a crowd pleaser Bad Boys 2 was in its day.

Even if this is the best reviewed of the trilogy it will never replicate that feeling I had sneaking into bad boys 2 at 13 years old and walking out feeling like a rebel

I'd love for this to surprise and crack 120m. A week ago i doubted 60m total. I wonder if we could see a spike in interest here, after all Will Smith used to be box office king

Starting his tweet with “Now I’m not telling people who to vote for” doesn’t change the fact that he was literally asking people to vote for the Labour Party. Why do you think he made that damn tweet in the first place? He wanted people to vote for the Labour Party. He encouraged people to vote out Theresa May. Just because someone claims they’re not doing something, doesn’t mean they aren’t doing it.
Also, I never said people don’t have a right to believe what they want. I myself am an atheist, but Gervais used to constantly brag about his atheist beliefs, which I find pretty pretentious. It’s just like that episode of Family Guy that made a big deal over how smart Brian was for being an atheist. Of course, if Gervais’ “it’s what Jesus would do” defense for having a bunch of far right fans is any indication, he’s probably moving past that stage in his life.
Also, if Gervais says things without a care in the world, then why did he apologize for having made fun Tim Allen eight years ago? If comedy is supposed to be indiscriminate, then why did he go out of his way to apologize for lightly poking fun at Tim Allen a long time ago? Could it have something to do with the fact that Tim Allen is a conservative, and Gervais didn’t want to be perceived as an enemy to the right?
You really are over thinking the Tim Allen apology. It was one of the few jokes that could have been aimed at anyone presenting along side tom hanks. He apologised because he took it to heart and pretended not to understand it, his political views had nothing to do with it. Its as if he felt sorry for him. Im pretty sure Mel gibson is far right and i dont remember him getting an apology.
Theres also a huge difference in tweeting out to your followers and using an entertainment award ceremony built for patting each other on the back as a platform to preach. If you can't see that then i don't know what to say. His monologue was clearly his way of mimicing the public's opinion that we don't want to be preached to by actors, it's why these shows have been getting less and less views, ththere is a time and place for it.

Great Gerwig has so far made 3 movies, one of which she recieved a nomination for best director. She missed out this year and the media are having a field day. Its not sexism for crying out load, she doesn't need to be nominated any time her movie gets 90% on RT. Christopher Nolan has made better movies, more movies and shares the same number of nominations. The media need to stop with these accusations, its pathetic
People are snubbed every year regardless of the colour of their skin or gender. You could argue Rian Johnson was snubbed harder than Greta but you wont see that in click bait media articles

The only hero's in Vietnam were the Vietnamese. They should make a film from their perspective.

Saying Heil Hitler again and again isn't subtle humour. It's just childish. I generally like Waititi's comedy. It just doesn't work here.
You can't praise the humour in long shot then turn around and tell me that Heil Hitler was childish. I guess some people just prefer slapstick

Culture has changed. I doubt Bad Boys II would receive 28% on RT or whatever if it came out in 2020. It would be judged more like a Fast film with cool action, funny scenes and not taking itself too seriously.
It's probably be in the 70s just like this one.
Dead titties, dead fat people being ran over whilst Will Smith quotes "that shit is nasty", gay innuendos, dead titties, 15 year old Megan Fox being a stripper cameo, racist banter and did i mention dead titties.
If this film was released today, critics would have a meltdown

About 90% of this movie is garbage but I'm giving it a high 4 or low 5/10 just because of the performances and Johsansson's character. All the actors were great and I loved the warmth, beauty, and hidden pain (due to her lack of freedom) of Johansson's character. It's why her death scene felt like a gut punch. I thought her character was amazing and wished we got more of her. The rest of the movie was shallow and lacked any sort of depth. "Nazis are dumb" isn't criticism, espescially if the movie makes it looks like Nazis weren't actually that bad. And why does Rockwell keep getting typecast as "the good racist"? I find it odd that the only truly evil character in the movie was imaginary (not real life) Hitler.
The movie does a terrible job at being funny. "Heil hitler" jokes and "this clearly gay character is so gay" jokes aren't funny. Also does a terrible job at being emotional. That scene where Jojo gets right into the middle of the final battle and everything is in slo-mo and the melodramatic music starts felt more like a parody than something actually emotional. I'm probably leaning more towards a 4/10 right now even if I really loved some parts of the movie because there's so much bad in this movie.
The first 10 minutes of Long Shot was a better anti-hate comedy than this film.
I think Taiki Waiti humour is very similar to British humour, it's not for everyone. Some people prefer subtle humour whilst other prefer more simple humour like Seth Rogan falling down some stairs....

What is the gay stuff?
I've heard a few people claim that Sam Rockwells character is gay, but i didn't notice this in the film?
Yeah he is 100% gay, his Game Of Thrones co star made that very obvious.

Wow this film took me by surprise, one moment i'm in tears of laughter then the next scene just literally in tears. Steve Merchant always has the ability to make me laugh and Sam Rockwell was such a sweet character by the end it left me with quite the smile on my face
