Out of curiosity, of the two Ridley Scott movies this year, what are y’alls predictions for them?

Gucci will cross 75 million domestic. 150 million worldwide. Cases should be down by then.

The Last Duel is tough subject matter. 50 million domestic and over 100 million worldwide? I don’t know haha.

How long until Warner puts out a press release saying TSS was the biggest thing since Endgame on HBO Max?

They already did. Second highest viewed film on hbo max! It’s like mate, it lost to mortal Kombat. So less than 4 million people viewed it over the weekend and your service has over 40 million people.

Kind of interesting to note that the verified audience RT score for TSS has been dropping steadily and quickly. It's gone from 92% to now 85% in 2 days. Wonder how much further it drops and when it starts to stabilize. Unverified is 80% for reference.

Was going to mention this. I think it’s fair to say almost a quarter of the audience is going to think the film is too silly for their taste. Not everyone loves gunn’s style.

What where people thinking this could do in a non covid world?  To repeat what I am sure has been said a thousand times.

It went from PG-13 to R has that ever happened in a non horror franchise before? I mean its usually the other way round to chase those teen dollars.

The first one had Will Smith.  This one no will smith and the marketing kind of made it appear they just replaced him with Idris Elba.

The first one had Joker this one had Polka Dot Man and Bloodsport.

This is coming off the quasi-sequel/spinoff Harley Quinn that disappointed and had an R rating.

This had a stupid confusing name. Call it at least Suicide Squad: Task force X

The first one had one of the better marketing campaigns this one is just what ever at best.

This did not have 4 dollar Tmobile tickets.

The first one had a hit album that was number 1 on the album charts and went 2x platinum that had at least 4 different platinum singles including one that peaked at 2 on the top 40 and went 9x platinum.

Basically, the first one had everything going for it.

The #1 reason this failed is because it was a sequel to a crap film where the hate for the original has only grown in the past five years unlike man of steel or to a lesser extent Batman v Superman ultimate edition which has aged like fine wine.

COVID and hbo max are of course secondary factors. This could have easily hit the 35 million mark or even 40 if those two factors weren’t in play. Still, it would have made less than half of the original in its opening weekend. That’s embarrassing. Such a bad idea to make a sequel to this and name it the Suicide squad rather than something more creative. The producers have massive egos and they’re going to get fired. Nothing could bring me more joy. I hope att finally steps in and tells Hamada and Emmerich they’re leaving before Christmas this year!

30M or 25M are both not good results for this box office wise so nothing to get excited about. Another sacrifice from WB for temporary HBO Max growth that won’t do them any good in the long term since they don’t plan on keeping this release strategy for the near future.

It was a bad idea from the start in regards to hbomax. Also the spin is crazy. I want this film to make 25 million and see how the trades spin it for their buddies at wb. I mean jungle cruise made 35 million one week before and the delta variant is a secondary excuse. I think that’s the thing about studios. When you have stubborn people at the top, they’ll just make excuses and spin it. Frustrating. Yeah, this weekend is nothing to celebrate. I don’t think we’ll get a suicide squad 3 but Gunn will do something else.

  6. Just did three theatres in Ontario. Two bigger ones in Toronto and a smaller one from my hometown. Had to estimate the total seats for some of the theatres because we do physical distancing here so if I buy a single seat for myself, nobody is sitting on my left or right. Cineplex just blocks those seats off. Is any US state doing that? I don’t know how much Ontario will help. Maybe it’s doing better in other provinces.

    10:05pm - 0 sold / 288

    32 / 1206 = 2.65%

The regular late night showings simply won’t sell because nobody wants them and it’s too late unless a few older teenagers/people in their early twenties decide to go soon. I hope this is helpful 🤷🏻‍♂️

Based on these numbers, I'm willing to guess Old is more likely to win the weekend. It'll arguably be better with walkups being a horror oriented film, while Snake Eyes, even with the showtime mixup, has just been a nonstarter. Wouldn't be shocked with a low teens opening.

The main issue plaguing The Suicide Squad IMO is that it's a sequel also presenting itself as a soft reboot to a movie that most people didn't care for at all, which was already evident in a spin-off for one of its characters failing to meet even the lowest of expectations. It was probably destined to fall big time no matter what, especially with the main star not coming back (talented though he may be, Elba doesn't have 1/10th the level of starpower that Smith provides).

Truth. Agree with everything you said mate.

The evidence is the large number of fans who never want to go back to Snyder and his version of things, especially after knowing what nonsense he had planned. Ayer is even below that. Snyder's divisive movies killed off the universe and it's a new start now.

Completely wrong. Sorry, but do some research. It was #1 on the U.K sales chart four times when it was released as a rental/buy. It was watched by over ten million people worldwide in the first 45 days of release. And it wasn’t marketed except by Snyder. WB tried to sabotage it by leaking it and it still found an audience. It was also over 3 hours and 45 minutes long. People are asking for it to continue on hbo max as it’s own universe but wb execs are losers and only care about their egos. That’s the truth. Why not release the streaming numbers if it was a failure? It wasn’t. That’s why WB won’t say a word about it. We could even have a series based on Snyder’s films but wb is stupid.

I only do previews, and yes it is very improbable.  I floated a theory/analogy a couple of days ago and I wanted to see where the logic went if it was right.

It very likely isn't right.  At the same time, I was curious, so I decided to see where the analogy would lead me if I followed it to its logical conclusion.

At the same time, I have doubts that TSS will under-perform so badly as to only get 3m in previews, so it is what it is at the moment.

    Thank you for answering!

I'm fairly dubious of the theory behind using Hobbs & Shaw as a comp, even though I'm the one who broached the possibility of it.  Even so, if I comped TSS against H&S, then I get... 8.10m as a comp (yes, pre-sales for H&S were that poor for a long time).

However, we've seen time and time again that Sacramento is running hot compared to the rest of DOM.  So far 2021 comps are off about 18 to 21 percent from what pre-2020 comps would suggest. With Ontario back, if I guesstimate that comps are now off by about 15 to 17 percent compared to what they were pre-2020, then I get something like 6.72m to 6.88m.  Which is a lot better than current comping is suggesting.

Don't ask me how likely this is.  Just noting what a Hobbs & Shaw like pre-sale pattern would suggest for The Suicide Squad.

Is that 6.72 to 6.88 number just for preview shows? I mean Thursday night? Seems improbable as of right now. There’s so little buzz for the Suicide Squad. Seems like nobody wants to watch another film with these characters. Do you have the numbers for Friday? Thank you!
