  1. Won't flop imo. Aquaman 2 numbers for this would be pretty good considering that movie went into crossing almost 500m (and Kung Fu Panda probably has like half its budget at worst while each entry settled in the 500m or the 600m).

silly question, was this movie initially envisioned as a straight-to-streaming tv show?

Been envisioned as a movie for the last five years it was in development going by interviews. The animation does seem up to theatrical quality at least.

I'm glad not to be alone on this. It looks bland as all hell and doesn't bring anything new to the table like Puss 2 did.

One thing to consider is that KFP movies historically do not have good marketing, like much of the time. You could've watched the trailers for movie 1 and 2 and when you got to theaters you would've gotten something that felt completely out-of-tone with those.

Fun fact: every KUNG FU PANDA movie has opened lower than the previous movie. Given the last one opened to $41 million and there's been an eight year gap I'd be surprised if it nudged that far over $30 million OW.

Maybe things could be turned around if the movie has good word of mouth. Have you heard anything about the quality of the movie?

Seems in line with the third movie on the high-end, which had a 143m domestic finish and a 41m domestic opening weekend. China brought to Universal 150m of its global 521m gross.

Conclusion? this will probably have to rely heavily on China to break the 500m mark on global. I think even with China getting cold feet on it, it will have a good enough gross from it to reach 400m global, provided movie has good word of mouth and keeps up in quality with the rest of the movie franchise.
