I don't think Barbie is locked for a BP nom, unless a lot of hopefuls get moved to 2024. For now, I'd say it safely has a screenplay nom and production nom (win?).
I see it pretty likely getting into Picture tbh, feels like an easy pick. I think it's less likely to get something like Director though.

Same, thinking a more even split is probably going to happen with it.

The later Harry Potter films are underrated for their cinematography. Order of the Phoenix looks muddy but Half Blood Prince is beautiful.
Half Blood Prince is sublime to look at. Got an Oscar nomination for Cinematography too and well deserved.

Prisoner of Azkaban and DH2 rank higher for me, but DH1 gets better for me with every rewatch. I think it has the best pacing of the Potter films and it adapaps the first half of the book pretty much perfectly. It often seizes to be a Harry Potter film per se and has that great road movie feeling to it. Its probably also the most intimate HP film.
DH1 is gorgeously shot as well. Some people lament some of the color grading of the later HP films but Eduardo Serra goes ham in the final two films in terms of shooting it. And like you said, it's remarkably intimate and it's rare to see a franchise film (let alone a franchise film aimed mainly at teens) be so bleak.

Dune 2, if it doesn't move, could just be viewed as more of the same. So I can see Oppenheimer beating it in a lot of techs like Score, Cinematography, Sound, Film Editing
I agree to an extent, Dune 2 is either going to be a Two Towers or a Return of the King at the Academy. Thinking maybe more Two Towers.
Dune Messiah feels like it could be a Return of the King though.

More like a second Oscar win
Unless Zimmer wins again for Dune which could absolutely happen

Why are people even bringing up 100 million for Dune1 as if it wasn't a total very much hindered by pandemic and day and date but then completely neglect to mention that it made 300M overseas?
"Casuals" not getting dune in the same way y'all were convinced they were gonna dislike Oppenheimer I guess. Dune2 won't be gigantic but I think 500-600M ww could perfectly happen.
Dune will be bigger in Europe and the like cause sci-fi like that tends to do better there anyways. International heavy film.

Dune 2 will have a jump, I don't think it will be a $100M opener but a good $20-25M above the first in terms of OW sounds about in order.

Finally been able to see the numbers. Barbie wasn't able to quite get to the highest WB opening like I was predicting but still a fantastic debut for it and the best 3-day opening of the year. You love to see it. Oppenheimer also with the highest non-Batman opening of Nolan's career is great to see too, guy is officially untouchable and a one of a kind draw in the realm of Hollywood right now.
MI7 completely collapsed, largest drop for the series ever. Disappointing to say the least but at least Part Two is guaranteed, I will take comfort in the fact that at least the movie was very good quality and it's international numbers are already above Indy 5 so that should be good for it.

I would also add that when I did my first initial watch of TCW years after the fact, I watched it in broadcast order and it was totally fine. Years later I did do a chronological order watch and while I suppose it did add a certain spice, it wasn't that much of an extra treat.
In fact, I actually watched the first broadcast episode before seeing the movie as a way to see if the series as a whole might vibe with me, and I'm glad I did at the episode in question, Ambush, instantly sold me on the series. Just so many little things done right that I knew I had to plow right on it.
(also enjoyed the movie, FWIW — but then I'm somewhat easily pleased when it comes to SW)
Did make sure not to overdose my bingeing as there is a looooooot of content to catch up on, and that's something I would absolutely recommend.
(should also add that choosing to watch these off of DVDs at the time also factored into my broadcast order rewatch as it is admittedly much easier to do a chronological rewatch on D+ than it was for DVDs)
Thank you for bringing this up, I did the same thing as well and broadcast order worked fine to me. The original intent for TCW was it to feel like the war serials/news that you would see before a movie in the 40s and usually those were also out of order or random. The broadcast helped make it feel like that, even if it meant stuff like the first half of Season 3 jumps around a lot.
That being said, chronological order does recontextualize a lot and it's worth a watch through at least once like that.

People complaining about the score being loud make me wanna see the movie. I loved Ludwig Göransson's music for Turning Red so of course I'd like more of his stuff.
It's his best score yet imo. He goes so hard.

Jesus, MI7 is just crumbling. Paramount needs to be better with release dates, they have had a solid year in terms of quality - MI7 is amazing, D&D was shockingly great, Transformers is actually pretty good, Scream VI is great - but outside of Scream most of their films either suffered weak marketing, bad release timing, or both. I bet they are praying TMNT breaks out.

So both the movies are making less than Friday. As @across the Jat versestated was predictable, the First day was definitely mega pushed from all the internet hype like true Summer blockbusters.
Really interested to see the First weekdays performances for both.
WOM is very strong on both so I think they'll hold very well.

He'll be clamoring to work with a big name director again; yet it won't be Spielberg, not after seeing a 3 hour, R rated biopic with minimal violence outgross the latest edition of his pet franchise in less than a week.
The word around town is that Spielberg won't work with him cause Cruise tried to spread Scientology on the set of War of the Worlds and it soured his opinion of him.

Before watching Barbie, I thought not including Aqua's Babrie Girl was a wasted oppornutiy, after watching it, I think it even more. Seriously, some of the themes of the movie really matches the themes of said song.
Aqua's song is in the midst of a massive legal battle anyways, they apparently tried to get it in the movie but they legally couldn't for whatever reason.

I don’t think the movies are included. Supposedly it should be better visually, apparently it's a transfer from the 4x3 film elements they were required to deliver to WB for archival purposes way back when.Oh thank god. This likely means it's a transfer from the original prints so I wanna bet it looks amazing.

The Magician's Nephew was always my favorite. I loved the dying Charn and the Wood Between the Worlds.
This is the one I wanna Gerwig do. It's easily my favourite of the novels as well, and while I have a nostalgic attachment to the Narnia books I'll also be the first one to admit that they tend to be up and down in terms of quality. Magician's Nephew hasn't been adapted and I would rather her do one of them/focus on the ones that haven't been touched yet, and this one probably the closest to her sensibilities weirdly anyways.

I'm just here for Iman tbh. Really hope the film retains the charm and humour Kamala had from Ms Marvel.
She's a movie star in the making I think. If The Marvels does well she's going to blow up more then she already has.

Seems likely, though I wanna see it's legs next week first before make a definite answer. Inception is the bigger hurdle imo, I think it will beat Inception domestically but fall short of it worldwide.
