  1. Wondering how much SOF is going to make this weekend in general. Will it's legs be cut by Barbenheimer? Will it even matter? Could this be the first $200M domestic grosser to make a total of $10 overseas? Time will tell.

Other then that these are actually pretty good numbers for MI7 who is going to struggle come this weekend. My only hope is that the drop isn't too bad. Great movie too, sucks to see it having issues.

And then of course #ElementalSweep. It continues!

  2. Jesus, these reviews are insane. Pretty sure this is Nolan's best incoming, gonna be starting my Nolan rewatches tonight though I'm not watching all of them. Prestige and Interstellar are top of the list considering I need to revisit them as I saw them and was mixed on both but they've lived rent free in my head more then other Nolan pictures. Probably will start with Dunkirk tonight though as that's a Top 3 Nolan for me, I think it's brilliant.

I watched Ghost Protocol last night and WOW! i do NOT remember the Burj Kalifa scene being that breathtaking. I literally gasped and shrieked.

The gadgets are super cool, I especially found the projector scene in the Kremlin good fun, and exactly the right tone of this franchise - fun, but still tense enough to have you slightly on edge.

The third act is definitely a let down though and the villain was very bland and non-threatening.

    Now, my ranking is 4 > 2 > 3 > 1

Ghost Protocol is still my second favourite behind Fallout. It's a delight! And I love how the gadgets in the film just never, ever work correctly, it's both very funny but adds a level of tension that makes the high stakes of this one really stand out.

Lmao I guarantee the "go woke go broke" crowd will spin this as a right-centred movie if it ends up being a success just like they did with Mario. They'll probably say it was only a success because both of the leads were white or something.

I still remember that crowd trying to twist themselves into trying to pretend Captain Marvel was some kind of huge flop for Marvel. Like sure Jan, the highest grossing origin film the MCU has ever done (not counting Black Panther as an origin film) both domestically and worldwide is a flop. Lol. Lmao even.

Not ready for The Marvels discourse in November that's for sure. I already know Barbie is going to be hell and I don't want that twice in the same year.

Yes but that precedes them, I won't be surprised if it's labeled 'anti-american' or something

I think there will be some weirdos that think that but I think Barbie will be the target by these morons more then Oppenheimer cause a lot of the time they can't actually understand media properly. Barbie is also easier cause it's colorful, pink, and aimed mainly at women (though I suspect the demos for opening weekend to have a higher male ratio then we expect, think 60% female, 40% male).

Oh don't worry, the American ones might hate Oppenheimer too if they get the message especially after they got pissed at the actors leaving the premiere for the strike

I don't know how people expected anything else out of Nolan tbh. The dude has openly said he thinks atomic weapons are the worst thing ever invented and this was something he said long before Oppenheimer was even being made so the fact this was ever in doubt is bizarre to me.

Frozen 2 was awful, big letdown from the original, you can tell they were just bullshitted the plot.

That's exactly what happened, albeit not entirely the creative teams fault. Lots of fighting between Lee and Buck vs. the Disney execs as well as a looming deadline and several other factors made that production hell.

If you haven't, I definitely think people should check out the BTS doc Into the Unknown on Disney+. Not only is it really interesting that Disney even allowed that to go on their service considering how much it shows (it even goes into details about the executive meddling and the disagreements going on behind the scenes) but it's just a great doc in general. I don't even hate Frozen 2 all that much (it's solid) but the doc really gave me some answers to why I had my nagging issues with it and what caused them.

Can somebody tell me the rationale behind these review embargos so close to release date for movies that everybody expects to get very positive reviews? It makes no sense.

I thought these were used to "hide" the reviews of disappointing films.

Fear of spoilers leaking out early, which I know it's weird to say for a movie like Oppenheimer which is based on actual history which you can quickly look up on a Wikipedia article but that's 100% what it is.

guy seems desperate for attention. he wants some of the best parts of the movie cut out. the role which people say will win an acting oscar cut out and can't articulate why. maybe because that opinion is bone headed?

I'm definitely interested in reading it though. I don't always agree with Ehrlich but he's one of the more interesting critics out there in terms of writing and articulating his opinions. If he thinks something like this then I'm very curious as to why, and I know for a fact it's not being "desperate for attention" tbh.

I'm surprised with how much RDJ's performance is being hyped up. Wasn't expecting it to be prominent, he's been barely shown in the marketing, at least to my knowledge.

His entire performance seems to be in the black and white segments which are good chunk of the film that appear to be left out. My guess is that they Universal felt marketing it in black and white wasn't appealing for some reason.

Yes novels are kinda of serious. I don't know if people know the books material but shouldn't judge narnia universe from its disneyed version.

You can make them again with a very different approach.

Agreed. That being said, the Disney films are very, very solid so I would rather them focus on starting by adapting novels/material that hasn't really been touched yet by those versions.

I think the difficulty with Narnia is that the later books are a little problematic especially the last one The Last Battle which CS Lewis really screwed over Susan.

I feel like Gerwig, if she gets to that point, would probably really explore that. She's a smart filmmaker and I trust her judgment in handling the more problematic stuff like that.

Personally, I'm hoping she handles The Magician's Nephew first.

  13. Everything about The Marvels continues to look really great. Vellani is the big reason I'm excited (she's a genuine talent and star in the making) but also it's great to see Larson adding more dimension to Carol. I enjoy the first CM quite a bit - I think it's much better then people say even if it does have that admittedly really weak first act - but while I liked Larson's performance a lot it was clear that they were saving her bigger, more expressive stuff for a sequel on purpose as that film was literally about her trying to be stone cold and emotionless to no avail.

The little bit we've seen in the trailers indicates we are finally getting a Carol closer to the comics, aka one who is constantly having the time of her life using her powers, is uber confident about herself (to a fault), and cares deeply about the people she protects (also to a fault). She's a stellar character in the comics and if they are able to translate that fully we are golden.

What explains Elemental's run? Even Pixar fans I know who'd seen it said it was really mid, so I can't even understand the WOM angle (unless they were just plain wrong).

At least from what I can gather, it's a mix of good timing - not a lot of kids movies out and in terms of animated fare Spider-Verse is too violent for some of the really younger ones - and also it seems to just be genuinely resonating with people. When I saw it opening weekend, theater was only about 60% full but the kids in the theater were LOVING it, big reactions across the board, lots of buzzing from them which makes me think parents caught wind and probably were spreading the word about it being good for kids. Also there was a grown man sobbing in the last 10 minutes of the film next to me so clearly it's working on adults too to an extent.

The more obvious one though is overseas where it's theme of immigration and race really seem to be hitting a strong chord, particularly in South Korea. The director is a first generation Korean immigrant himself and Elemental's story is not just hitting a chord over there, it's absolutely INSANE in terms of audience scores (9.9/10 on their version of CinemaScore which I think maybe the highest a Pixar movie has received there in a very long time).

Shazam one stands out but the rest are fine.

But yeah don't understand why he so harsh on dark knight and begins  . Rises has lots of issues.

Him liking Shazam makes sense once you realize he really enjoys pulpier, more classic style superhero stories like Captain America The First Avenger and the Donner Superman, it's very much in that vein

No, nice try. You're not just gonna pin any drop from one movie to another on Loki and say "that's obviously why it made under a billion". The fact that every single time I've asked you to back up your claim that a single hour long episode of tv will hurt a movies box office, and each time youve only provided examples of how that has never actually been a thing, proves it's a load of shit. Come on now man.

Dude is somehow convinced the general public still gives a shit about the MCU shows lmfao most regular people I know just wait to see them when they want to, like mom just now got around to watching Loki S1 (she really liked it!) so I sincerely doubt it will do literally anything

There is no way that is the budget

Idk man, I'd shocked if it wasn't. Gareth Edwards has historically been pretty good with budgets (Godzilla was $160 million which is much less then you would think) and he's been working with heavy VFX since the start of his career, I wouldn't be shocked if this is lower then $100M.
