I think you're no liberal (no offense ^^).

This place is great when it comes to tracking, reviews, reviews before a film is even released, Hollywood infos in general...but in recent years we are sometimes out of touch with the normal population. Some films are hyped, other are overlooked at all.

So...what do think about Napoleon's chances in America? Is Napoleon a thing or not (given it took place centuries ago and in Europe)? And do you think that the only decent reviews hurt or are history fans immune?

What? They're just asking for early numbers why are you yapping?

I disagree re Taylor’s dominance. In Europe she is not as big, imo, as Beyoncé, Adele and Coldplay.  Maybe even the Weekend. Surely she can sell out stadium but I don’t think she is regarded as high as the rest.

shes probably bigger in china alone than they are in europe, she's unfathomably massive there

The opening weekend is great but I wish the over hype hadn't happened. People were claiming that it would out open Barbie as if it were a regular movie. It reminds me of the Solo selling more tickets than Black Panther in 24hrs nonsense.

True, lost in all this is that it 3x'd the previous highest opening in the genre and already beat the previous lifetime gross in just over 2 days

Nope. But here in Orlando there is an AMC theater inside Disney World resort where these movies sell well even early on for obvious reasons. Otherwise its not going to sell much until final 2 weeks and neither will it have significant previews. So far Wish is even worse than Elemental which itself had terrible presales. But its better than Ruby Gillman 🙂

did Ruby Gilman or Elemental have shorter windows?

I think this whole debate stems from the fact that while Taylor has always been famous worldwide, her music and vibe has always been incredibly American. Her country roots just made her been seen as something very American by the rest of the world, so while she has been huge in America for the longest time, she hasn't been actually as big(while still being big) in the rest of the globe.

She's only truly gone global recently.

Maybe in other areas its different but this is definitely not the case at all atleast for Asia, she's by FAR the biggest western artist in SEA and China + has the biggest fanbase for a western artist in India. She's so big in China that she's the only western artist China in the top 10 (#3) and the only western artist on any lists at all.

Well, how exactly do you top 21 commercially? Not only did she sell unheard of amounts of physical copies, she did that at the peak of download sales, leading the industry there as well. That album remains to be 21st century’s biggest anomaly, so 25‘s decline was only natural, and still quiet soft.

25 is maybe what they're referring to her peak commercially (even though 21 in the long run sold more), 3.36M first week, Hello broke the youtube record for fastest to a billion and had nutty sales etc. 30, while still doing crazy numbers, doesn't hold a candle to that in the slightest and is not even in the top 15 globally for the decade under people like the Kid Laroi and SZA (who's album released just 10 months ago) while 21 and 25 are both in the top 3 this century.

  7. Trying to analyse this from a P/L perspective is useless, Apple is leveraging Marty, Leo, De Niro, Gladstone and the film in general for legitimacy in film similar (but not to the same extent) to Netflix with the Irishman

The real interesting thing of the Box Office stuff with KOTFM is how big of an appetite there is for this kind of film since Oppenheimer already made some head way in that direction (albeit with a more digestible film)

i've been sceptical of Oppenheimer winning for a while but now I'm thinking it's probably just gonna be that. Oscars haven't had a layup like this in years in terms of critical acclaim + populist appeal + general Oscar baitiness.

100%, this is the easiest W for every party and Nolan's 'overdue' narrative helps too
