  1. The first one was released on July. Rewind still showed that paying general audiences are still there. The buzz on their current real-life relationship + goodwill from critics and audience alike from the first film + exposure from both GMA and ABSCBN networks = I'm confident about this one. The release date is good too: I don't think Wicked will be big and it has two weeks on its own before Moana 2. I'm thinking of a number now close to A Second Chance (2015). I'm more curious now where they will release the Vice Ganda movie if not on MMFF. October was good for Vice more than a decade ago but yeah its a different marketplace now.
  2. IKR. No pattern at all. Viewers' Choice Philippines/Pioneer Films managed to distribute John Wick without cuts yet with Boy Kills World last month I've heard they cut scenes that really hurt the momentum of action scenes. Like in the U.S., no amount of F-words can regulate Eras Tour here too lol. With Furiosa (It's R-13, just checked now) likely to get more money, hopefully it won't get cuts.
  3. not sure IIRC tho 20th Century/Disney made no cuts for Poor Things but that was "arthouse"
  4. Yep. Not sure if Fury Road was cut. It would be L for WB to cut Furiosa just to pass MTRCB restrictions when it isn’t really going to much money anyway lol (plus it’ll just piss off its core demo). The Jeepney marketing was cool tho
  5. Mad Max Fury Road only did $1M here back in 2015 so I’m classifying Furiosa under likely mid-size performer for now
  6. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - $618,764 Apes woke up the box office (the box office woke up but just lied down lol). But hey we got Haikyu (and If) tomorrow and a consistent slate of probably mid-size grossers here until Inside Out 2 arrives
  7. Disney/20th you can do this. Wake up the box office again (Apes, Deadpool, Inside Out) Also hoping casuals go to Twisters (Garfield/A Quiet Place) and I'm betting they will. Seems like Star Cinema will drop their major films again in the Fall. If Vice Ganda misses MMFF, November is a good date while thinking a September date for the Joshua Garcia/Julia Barreto comeback movie.
  8. Godzilla x Kong - est. ₱174 million as of yesterday, May 5 (5PM) per @rvgonzales_100 Bodes well for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as the next blockbuster-y movie to see on the big screen
  9. IKR. The one that really pissed me off is the newly renovated SM Aura regular cinemas. The screen is soooo small and the overall design/color inside the cinema is... interesting
  10. Yeah because they just converted a regular cinema before not built from the ground up From this comment a year ago I think it's kinda the same. Forgot if it has Atmos system Kinda have to warn you though about A-Giant. Saw The Batman at Vertis and I think the orange lighting of its stairs or something was reflecting on the screen lol. Please update us if it's still the case (or maybe you can request to turn it off). Trinoma's projection is a bit... dark? The new ones in SM North The Block are solid but screen size is smaller I think.
  11. the newly opened IMAX in SM Iloilo has Laser. MOA is still my go-to. The screen is the biggest here but rarely utilized (where's our 70mm projector???). I believe it was renovated too during the pandemic. SM Megamall is fine but definitely better than SM North. My next go-to is Ayala Manila Bay's A-Giant Screen which is 24.3x13m with Dolby Atmos. Got this one on Reddit and I can vouch for MOA/Mega/North difference.
  12. Laser upgrades ! Curious to know which three new locations will have IMAX. Guessing Baguio, Davao, Dasmarinas or Marikina
  13. War for the Planet of the Apes only did $1.5M in 2017 - down from Dawn's $2.7M. It's likely that we have to wait until Inside Out 2 (in June !!) before we get our next 100M grosser. Garfield could tho.
  14. Just saw the film. LOTS of brands showed up (Uniqlo, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Gatorade, Applebees, etc.). Curious how many actually paid for it and is it reduced in the budget?
  15. Yeah. Fanbase remains king in romance films and (having seen it) the story isn't as theatre-worthy or buzzy to attract casuals
  16. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire now at around ₱106 million in 11 days. Stilll seems to be getting a screening in all malls nationwide even with a lot of premieres this Wednesday (Ghosbusters, a local drama - Sunny, Suga concert movie, Late Night with the Devil, & Civil War)
  17. ₱100 million earlier today! (around $1.7M+)
  18. seems like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has now grossed more than ₱91 million in 9 days. Total gross combined with Dune 2 and Kung Fu Panda 4 is now around more than ₱256 million.
  19. Seems to be at around ₱70 million now or GvK
