Yeah you can stop right there.
People who love BR (GA and awards members/voters) are the ones who can actually make the difference at the Box Office and the award season so of course their opinions do matter.

You people who think Rami is bad in BR are certainly entitled to your opinion.
Fortunately most people whose opinion do matter seem to disagree with you, otherwise the movie wouldn't have made that much money and Rami wouldn't have been nominated/won these many awards.

Any reasons why MP is underperforming in Japan of all places? I thought Disney's musical is their bread and butter. I know it's underperformed anywhere but UK but Japan is one market that doesn't always follow the WW trend.😐

3. AVENGERS 3: $61,865,0834
4. STARWARS: TLJ: $58,093,9325
5. TITANIC: $57,663,3056
6. THE AVENGERS: $53,255,1387
7. JURASSIC WORLD: $52,945,6378

10. ROGUE ONE: $51,458,58710

Only non-Cameron & non-franchise on the list. And it's basically a mid-budget musical drama. This is just insane.😶😶

When a film is a WOM sensation that doesnt mean that everyone woud like it, just a majority. I personally dont like Titanic at all but many folks clearly would disagree with that.
Box office rarely has something to do with what we subjectively see as quality. The only thing that matters is audience reception. And the one for BR is obviously outstanding.
Of course not. People just choose to see the movie that look appealing to them and if they like it recommend it to other people. Some critically good movies don't always have that appeal.
GA don't see a movies to analyse it. They just want to have a good time.

Off topic but I was looking for a quick answer.
When they say a movie, for example Aquaman, has made $5 million overseas across the weekend.
Is that specifically what it made Friday to Sunday overseas everywhere or is it taking into account Japan's Saturday and Sunday, UK's Friday to Sunday, Australia's Thursday to Sunday etc?
I remember it's like what in the bold letters.

Where did you get that $250m from?

Singer is reportedly getting a $40m pay day out of this so... yikes!
The article only stated what the unnamed 'source' said about how much money he 'could' earn based on the BO number. They wouldn't know shit how much he will actually earn because how could they know what kind of agreement FOX had with Singer before firing him?
In short, just another negative article aiming to bring this movie down after the gazillion ones before this couldn't do the job.
Any dollars I've spent on the movies I enjoyed are the money well-spent. I don't care if those movies were made from the 'right' people or not.
They should have attacked every named A-listers who've worked with Singer in the past while they're at it. Why shaming just ONE movie like it's his only work that matters?

Eh, Rhapsody will be forgotten in 3 months.
Not in my country where BR just entered the all time top 10. Certainly not in Europe, South Korea and Japan.
And since the number of people have seen it multiple times, if the movie was really forgotten in 3 months, that'd be case of mass Alzheimer's than the fault of the movie.

It is not that hard to see how BR get in, 800m+ for a non-VFX/action movie? It is the highest grossing non-VFX fare of all time! Fueled by the insane leg of its run!
And, why should the academy always listen to the critics? Critics don't own the oscar, Oscars do not have the obligation of compliant to critics's choice. And, BR is the rare occurrence that oscars don't agree with critics but for most of the time, about 90% of the films are endorsed by the critics. Shouldn't that be enough? Or critics just a bunch of elite that always see them as the definition of "Correctness"? No wonder Trump can win the election. Because the elite just refuse to communicate with the mass public, and all the social flow stuck.
Critics vs Audience? In the case of BR, Oscar declare that audience is the winner, Period.
So true.
BR is insanely beloved by GA and no amount of negative online articles/tweets/comments/reactions can convince me otherwise.
Which is why I find the tweet about Rami being forgotten for such iconic role stupid AF.

It is still better than down in 10 years, nobody talk about Oscar.....or we a new category is born, best popular film and that is the only one that people talk about.
10 years? I still can't find anyone in my real life who can actually remember the name of the best picture winner LAST YEAR. lol.

This is so stupid. BR makes more than $200m dom, $800m WW. Rami won't be forgotten even if he hadn't received any awards nor nominations.

I feel like 10 years from now everybody's gonna be looking back at this year's overall Oscar nominations with a lot of "how did that happen?" reactions.
Because they actually recognise half of the movies that were nominated for once? Sounds like a good thing to me.

Mom: "Oh! I finally saw Bohemian Rhapsody last night. Richie, it's amazing. Did you see it?"
Me: "I did. Uhhh, yeah, people seem to like it."
Your mum sounds like pretty much everyone I know in the real world who have seen this movie. My mum for example went to see this movie twice and still can't stop raving about it.
And it's the people in the real world who've voted with their wallet.
Must be sucked to be the haters of this movie. So loud and overactive in speaking their mind and spreading the hatred among the like-minded people, so powerless in stoping people in the real world from loving it.

As of today, BR has hit number 10 all-time in Australia, crossing AU50.5m and passing Shrek 2 (AU50.38m).
Nobody saw this coming.
Too bad AUD has been so weak. With a better ER we would have added $10-15m more to the (already absurdly amazing) WW number.

^^ Are there any big movies coming out this weekend? If not it'll be interesting to see if BR can manage to have another great hold after the Oscars nominations.

I have an crazy idea about bohemian's run in Japan.
I compare BR with Les Miserable in 2012, the year also, the Christmas and new year fall on Tuesday.
Les Miserable's opening
Dec. 22–23 2 $3,591,693 - 360 - $9,977 $4,608,613 1 BR's 7th weekend.
Dec. 22–23 3 $3,436,423 -9.4% 506 -12 $6,791 $55,301,899 7 Since Les's opening gross on the opening is about the same as BR's pre-Christmas gross at the same time frame, it make the comparison realistic and even more when Les is also an PG-13 music-themed film.
Let us assume the BR would follow Les's run from here.
Les's final total is 62m, if BR follow the same pathway, BR could get up to 110m!!!!! or ¥12.5b Yen!
So it seems to me that BR has indeed had a very comparable BO run to Les Mis since X-Mas. BR did drop harder than Les Mis last weekend (-37 vs -24) but it should still be on track to $110mil, right?

Most movies lose steam after week 3 here. Seeing Bohemian Rhapsody being so close to the top after almost 50 days of release just shows how insane its performance is. Queen are popular, but the fact is the movie's just become a phenomenon: those who already saw it tend to see it at least one more time, and those who have yet to see it are pushed to see it by all the talks. It's something I've never seen since Avatar.
Thanks. It's been showing some insane leg in Australia (where I live) too. My mum wasn't a Queen fan before the movie but after the movie she's been watching/listening to Queen non-stop. 😄. I guess the movie must have had the same effect on most people. I've seen it twice myself.
-
That's quite a staying power for BR. Do movies usually have long leg in Italy? I remember you said most movies lost steam after week 4. Were Queen very popular in Italy before the movie?

Makes you wonder what kind of reactions people had back when Titanic was released. I really wish there had been a box office forum back then.
I did follow Titanic run pretty closely back then but honestly after watching Titanic in theatre and was blown away I kinda expected it to do something extraordinary at the BO. It had everything going for it and the movie just did everything right. It had Leo and love story for the girls, spectacular special effects for the boy, history and drama for older people. Critical reception was insane and audience reception was even crazier. I was over the moon with it's run but wasn't that 'surprised'.
BR run just comes out of nowhere. People just love it despite being reminded again and again by everyday media that they shouldn't. Heck, after it's GG wins there're way too many articles reminding us how 'undeserved' the movie was and how it wasn't even a good movie but seems like people just prefer to think for themselves based on the Dom and OS 'drop'.

It's already the biggest surprise of the year for me.
Re-reading this thread is like fallowing an auction. The bidding just kept going higher and higher. I used to think $500m OS was TOO much for this type of movie!

Can we all have a petition for asking Fox to delay the home release by 2 weeks?
The released date has already been advertised everywhere. And to think ASIB which came out before this movie won't have it's home release until March or something. FOX really being short-sighted when they decided on the home vdo release of BR.

Good to know Japan can't have it on blu-ray until March. I really want this to reach 800 ww!
Bohemian Rhapsody OS: $684M OS | $900M WW

I still think it won't quite reach $900m but it's going to be very close. The fact that it can come closer to 900 than 850 is already astonishing and absurd. I think it has reached all time top ten in a few countries as well (in Australia it sure has). Just....WOW.
It should do well on home video market as well. People who think this movie won't be remembered well compared to other Oscar winning movies are either clueless or biased.
