Unless there's an incapacitating blizzard, hurricane, tornado etc weather doesn't affect B.O. in the U.S. to any discernible degree.   Unlike some countries in Europe there isn't a matter of having rare sunny days or non air conditioned theaters.

    Thank you too

I live in a region with quiet a lot of sunny days, and AC in the cinemas (I actually am not aware about any cinema in EU & UK without an AC nowadays, there were some very old ones way back in time), but still, cinema is dead during sunny / nice days and so on 😉

but waaayyyy not as hot as eg Florida seems to get (average temperature #1 in the US?)

=> it‘s less intense, excluding some hot days, usually you can go out of the house and eg go for a walk or a bicycle drive, go for a jog,… without the danger of a heat stroke the majority of the year

Doable in the sense of continuing to have 24% drops, which would get it to around $60-$65 million not including a Japan r5elease

Yes, I know there are all kinds of external factors like theater will and the like, but this kind of rough guesstimating worked pretty well for me following Elemental's run last year

Liked for the work done, even if I do not think it will happen that way.

But who knows, since I started to look into ww numbers (sometime in the ‘70), there were some surprises…

Kingdom of Heaven , frankyk, was a box office bomb on it's threatrical run in a badly cut version.

It only became really popular wihen Ridley was able to release his original 3 hour plus cut on Video.

I love the Ridely cut, BTW.

Wasn’t that the movie with a condition in their contracts or… like they’ll release the long/real version only if there will be interest in a theatrical release too,… and then their stunt to release that long version only in like one theater without any ad, press,… in their try to circumvent that?

And then someone posted it in the IMDb board or… and it sold out or something like that?

Might have been an April’s fool story too, I only can remember bits of the story, not the source nor all of its details

General audiences use Metacritic all the time. It gets noted all the time for video games, it's not an obscure website. More importantly, it tracks how the critics actually feel about the movie other than good/bad. Fall Guy did not have the kind of "divisive" response Joker did that actually propelled the movie, nor did it have the near-universal praise of something like Oppenheimer or Minus One. It was "this is a good action movie" not "this is an absolute world beater and savior of movies".

    Not again that….

MC is not even known nor used by every gamer, nor are gamers the same as GA

plus MCs refusal to show how they do their interpretation of other people’s movie-reviews leaves a bit question mark about them for at least some of the people who know about them

I did once caused by statements like yours an in-depth look into who their cinema/movie reviewers then were (all of them, including their work, educational,… background of the last decades, all what was accessible, as far as available), it included eg a small town newspaper editor/runner, who in general mostly wrote articles literally about country faires, church & small town events, … Plus a few reviews about movies.

There was one cinema in that town, I think it had 3 screens then. I even looked into what kind of program said cinema offered. No art house kind of movies,…
No background related to either educational background, anything to do with eg theater, work at a bigger newspaper,… to gain any kind of experience why he, who’s work only to a very small degree was about movies, should be considered as a pro movie reviewer.

I know, there are ‘reviewers’ like that at YouTube out without any background neither, but those at least focus on movies, see a lot of them, interact usually with people about what they presented at their channels (at least as the channel is still not big), see mostly willing to learn,…. still would not count them as pros, but at least some focus, more observable experience, …. on movies.

I think (hope) they got better since, but as long as they won’t disclose their method (including how they pick the reviewers they use) IMHO they do not count more than a solo reviewer.

  5. Just took a peak to ‘my’ typical little town cinema:

Dune 2 still gets two showtimes during the weekends, one late midday, one around 7 after midday, weekdays inly once per day (no midday)

The late midday for tomorrow one has 9 tickets sold (can’t see reservations)

it’s a ~ 50 seats room, not a huge screen… so no real reason like big screen… so nice to see people still pay for tickets.

interesting to me to see those details for a movie already digitally out since 2.5 weeks

SW1 is also on the program, The Fall Guy, all the actual ones, Macbeth, Doors, local movies, ‘art’ ones too, including last year’s There's Still Tomorrow (Italy) , a nice spread of genres, aimed for ages,…

The Numbers - Daily Box Office Chart for Monday April 29, 2024 (the-numbers.com)

So Dune 2 surpassed during the weekend worldwide the $700m mark and on Monday the $280m mark

was reaching those kind of numbers part of some projections, bets, or…?

  9. The sole reason I know about Challengers… is reading in this forum.
Haven‘t seen any ads nor trailer.

the search machine of my choice is DuckDuckGo, I use new-ish hardware (around 2 years old), I do not allow apps to ‚follow‘ my use of those… maybe no typical ‚place‘ to see an advertisement for a movie like that didn‘t realized my general interest for movies, is less movie oriented as probably other member’s equipment?

I definitely knew about the Barbie movie, beside having 0 interest for Barbie nor that kind of movies (shudder)

  10. I‘m still looking into last week / last weekend comparison in especial for Dune 2, as it is out digitally since 16 April

I think for that it has a rather nice last weekend drop

    Worldwide Box Office $665,190,948

It seems Europe always has more vacation time than the USA. Our corporate masters in America really like to grind us into the ground, lol

    Here in Bavaria (Germany):

6 full weeks paid vacation (can get higher as you get older/work for a longer time) plus 13 non-Sunday paid for public holidays per year

Employer will get in trouble if trying to refusing your vacation, they can say eg at that time… only ?x workers can take vacation at the same time, but they have to give the time. In addition they give usually additional days for moving, death in the near family…

6 weeks in one row illness = paid fully, if it takes longer a reduction happens (health insurance takes over, they pay roughly 90% of your normal salary), but only if it is the same illness.
In theory you can be ill for 6 weeks for one reason and then be ill for another reason…. And still get fully paid.

The 90% detail will get paid for up to 72 weeks within 3 years, afterwards the terms change again, not sure how (never needed it, the longer than 6 weeks only once after a broken bone where the doctor said 3 months,  it I started earlier out of boredom)

benefits, health insurance,… start after surpassing roughly 10h/week average within a month (per law), full time is usually around 37h +/- per week

A new parents gets 65% to 67% paid (calculated out of the 12 months before…) parenting time for 1 year. You can work up to 30h/week an still get that money in full.

afterwards you‘ll get a minimum of 250€/month, depending on your income. Can be a lot more too, if a rather low income is earned.

health insurance for children and stay at home parent is usually free (included in a parent‘s/partner’s statutory health insurance). Exceptions can happen if eg parents are self employed.

School, university… free too beside some books/material (normal prices, not comparable to some insane prices I heard about)

Kindergarden/child care/after school starting 3y old is either free or very low cost, or…. depending on income. Eg up to 15.000€ it’s free, kindergarden (here starting 3y up to entering grammar school) is free beside the meals, for after school it depends on income, especially 60.000€/year and 80.000€/year makes it a bit more to pay (but still waaaayy less than what I read about the US)

not sure about child care for younger than 3y olds, I think it’s the same

siblings are often free or at least reduced even for after school…

Work security clothes / shoes has to pay the employer, they can not deduct the cost for those from the salaries of the employees. Same counts for clothes with eg emblems of the company…

I feel there is a big gap in work-live balance, health, longevity, access to education, legal system,… between the US and every other industrial nation I know about at least some of the details
