Didn't read the book (or heard of the real-life controversies surrounding the author until the release of this movie heh) but I found this to be much better than the reviews made it out to be, even if it's highly flawed from a writing standpoint (which I'm assuming is mostly a reflection of the source material). Mostly an interesting experience due to excellent production values and yet another strong performance from the captivating Daisy Edgar-Jones, even if she's never entirely believable as someone who raised herself in the North Carolina marshlands. B-
