This one is interesting. On the one hand you have a wonderfully dark, gothic and disturbing story with mature and fresh themes, on the other you have Freddy being a complete joke and messing with the tone of the movie.

 

I've always had the impression that there was an attempt here to make a dark and serious movie, but the inexplicable success of Dream Master meant they had to force in the comedy.

 

The ideas are all there, and it's interesting that a slasher movie actually loses its way when the killer arrives. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but this is one of the better sequels in the series.
