  1. Just some quick notes. A local movie Cheburashka broke pretty much all box office records in Russia. Billion rub in 3 days, 2 billions in 6 days, Around 2390 mln RUB or $33.9 mln just from Sunday to Friday . Will easily pass Avatar all-time record in gross (3659.2 mln RUB). Not so sure about admissions.  14.3 mln admissions would be hard to beat.

Avatar: The Way of Water grossed so far huge $8.21 mln in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. First movie ever with more than milliion admissions in Kazakhstan, Would be enourmous hit if properly released in Russia. 5bln RUB or $70+ mln is a reasonable estimate.  Actually some theaters are alreadly have undercover shows of Avatar and many others will join after the holidays. Real box office is hard to estimate with no official reports but in major cities average attendance might be between 100 and 200 people per show.

Local movie share in Russia right now is around 95%. But Operation Fortune (January, 12th) is expected to do very well. People just love Guy Richie's movies. Among recent independent foreign moderate hits  ($2-3 mln) are Three Thousand Years of Longing, Paws of Fury, Fall and After Ever Happy.

In Local Currency that is  -  $77.8m

    18th-21st Aug

    1. DBS -  $77.8m
    2. Bullet Train - $20.8m //  $147.9m
    3. Beast - $11m // $38m
    4. Super Pets - $10.1m  //  $127.8m
    5. Minions 2 - $9.5m //  $792.9m

    Elvis reached  $144.3m ~
Paws of Fury  touched $19.4m ~
Thor 4 has touched $589.4m with $4.6m this weekend.

Is it possible to post a full top ten? Thanks a lot.

  3. Is there any sourse left for weekend top 10 in admission? Had at least three 3 sites with more or less reliable numbers before covid but all of them have no updates for long time or even removed their databases.  And why is Morbius in official weekly charts from Ancine since 15 December?

  4. Didnt you realize that words encourage, recommend, advise, ask, suggest are a recipe for disaster? No enforcement too many people will simply ignore all the rules. People are smart and will make their own decisions. Heard that rubbish too many times in last two years. Closing pubs and restaurants early would be absolutely pointless. Zero effect, Omicron is spreading too fast.  No time for trying half measures and those or "social distancing" are not even half measures.

Despite lots of misinformation on media, vccines protections works on different levels, what Omicron surpassed is the infection protection, so yes 2 shots in most cases isn't enough to prevent infection. But 2 shots still is enough to prevent serious disease or death, there's already many data about that.

And 3 shots is pretty much confirmed to solve the problem, since they bring protection against infection back in similar rates of 2 shots for Delta.

More worried countries could do lockdowns to avoid the variant to spread, or to guarantee hospitals to not work over their capacity, but vaccines definitely still work to protect people lives.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/highly-vaccinated-countries-thought-were-154515101.html

Scientists caution that the knowledge of omicron remains imprecise. Denmark's virus modelers have many scenarios, not just one. But even in a middle-of-the-road scenario, Danish hospitals will soon face a daily flow of patients several times beyond what they've previously seen.

"This will overwhelm hospitals," Grove Krause said. "I don't have any doubt about it."

In her office building, where she works with a six-person modeling team, she tried to explain why omicron amounted to such a setback in the fight against the pandemic. She likened the virus to a flood, and described how vaccines, under earlier variants, had acted like two barrier walls safeguarding the health system. One barrier resulted from the vaccines' ability to reduce the probability of infection, keeping spread low. The other barrier stemmed from the diminished likelihood of severe sickness and death. Both barriers had some holes, but together, they assured the floodwaters never got too high.

But now, she said, the first barrier has been largely removed. Denmark's data shows people with two doses to be just as vulnerable to omicron infection as the unvaccinated. Those who've been boosted have better protection - a sign of hope - but meantime some three of four Danes have yet to receive a third dose, making the majority of the country vulnerable.

That dynamic, coupled with a variant far more transmissible than the one from last winter, means any Danish person is now dramatically more likely to come in contact with the virus - including the old and the frail, as Denmark's demographics skew older, like much of the West. The water will now flow through the holes in the second wall.

Denmark has 85% vaccinated. Apparently they are sure that 2 doses are not enough to prevent hospitals from overwhelming. They still provide some protection but not enough to prevent serious illness in many situations. Yes, they believe that the 3rd dose provide better protection. Still it will require some time to make shots and recieve actual boost in protection after them.

The question is for how long and still it will be much less effective than in initial research. And we live in the global world, You might get 4th or 5th dose while billions of other people still have none, or one, or two. Those will interact, new variants will emerge. So the idea that we will be fine dont care about others will not work. Dont get me wrong, Any vaccine works and they are betther than nothing. Everyone should be vaccinated, But the whole idea that we will vaccinate 70-80%, drop all restrictions and return to normal life right now is dead.

The number of death now is even lower than one month ago despite the rise in number of new cases. That's the most important thing people should look at.

New variant emerged only a month ago. Came to Europe even later. Started mass spreading probably only 2 weeks ago. Of course it is pointless to talk about new deaths in such situation. They will be lagging at least for several weeks.

What is the point of 2 weeks lockdown? Most people already fully vaccinated. Most of people who died or in serious condition are the ones didn't fully vacinnated yet.

Lockdown to protect people who have not vaccinated/don't want to vacine?

If number of new cases rises but the deaths still the same level, then it's not dangerous. Vaccine is doing its work.

Apparently vaccines didnt help much with omicron. Previous illness too. 2 doses of Astra Zeneca have negligible effect. No one is pretty sure about three. Omicron is a gamechanger.  Only in September Denmark government announced that Covis is not a serious threat anymore. And now they are closing everything for 4 weeks with 84% of people aged 5 and above vaccinated.

Unlike Venom 2 which was small in CIS states, No Way Home is massive in CIS. ₽65M OD in CIS.

    Russia ₽240 + CIS ₽65M = ₽305M

    1. Endgame - ₽437M + ₽75M = ₽512M
    2. Infinity War - ₽274M + ₽60M = ₽324M
    3. No Way Home - ₽240M + ₽65M = ₽305M
    4. Suicide Squad - ₽242M
    5. The Lion King - ₽233M + ₽27M = ₽260M

Where did you get your numbers?. Don't see anything like this on ComScore. So far less than 19 mln reported. There might be some delays due to public holidays in Kazakhstan today and tomorrow but still 65 mln RUB looks way too high.
