Are we getting Daredevil Affleck then?

Neat. Also they're rebuilding it in the same spot as the last movie.

Great to see ATSV doing well. Just finished my screening and it's fantastic.
Did have a bit of trouble with the audio in the opening scene though.

Wow this looks just as awful as the first movie.
I'm there day 1.

Surprisingly a fun film. Almost like a fantasy GOTG. But it does a good job of using D&D for jokes without losing it's main audience. And all the Forgotten Realms references.
SpoilerAlso the cameos from the old D&D cartoon show warmed my cold heart

I thought it was a bit overpacked for a movie, but it was very entertaining and the action is as crazy as ever. Probably could have told it's story a bit quicker. Some really huge setpieces and excellent editing. The cinematography was really good, there was a few scenes with the few of neon lights that was cool and the stunts are really clear/clean as usual for this franchise. If you liked the previous 3 I cannot see why you won't like this one as well.

Really great finale.
SpoilerI love how in the end it basically tells the viewer that Marlene was afraid of Ellie saying no, and Joel knew she'd say yes.

I really hate this trend of every Disney remake has to be desaturated to hell because "realism".

The Oscar for Fraser was clearly a career award since his best performance ever was already achieved in George of the Jungle

Well deserved for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Never had a movie send me through so many different emotions. What an achievement.

Donnie Yen is a CCP shill and famous for being an asshole behind the scenes (though in the martial arts world over there it's pretty patriarchal and no doubt filled with other bullies and victims) so I wouldn't be too bothered by him being removed as a presenter, not that it would happen.
Seeing the film soon myself this weekend. Liked the first three a lot so don't see anything changing with this one especially if it's bigger and bolder.

Definitely a really strong episode. The actor who played David did such a great job being very unsettling.
SpoilerRamsey was amazing this episode. She knocked it out of the park with her performances in the cage and when David was pinning her down in the fire scene. You could see all the horror in her eyes and and her disgust with him. Felt very cathartic to see her go to town on him, especially after being sexually assaulted. Also his past history with him mentioning he was a teacher felt so disgusting jeeeez.
Also loved that the interrogation scene made it in from the game. I do liked they portrayed him as still weak from the wound so every punch seemed to take it out of him but he was so menacing with the "pop your kneecap off" line and the way he had that slight smile after he killed the tied up guy in the couch.
"It's okay, I believe him."
I think she can carry the second game's plot for season two imo.

I thought it was pretty good, but not as strong as the earlier episodes. Ramsey and Reid carried that episode though with their acting. Ramsey's use of her eyes is incredible.
SpoilerThat scene where she was trying to rub away the bite and getting angry while smashing stuff was wonderful. And I loved how they basically left the ending as the same as the DLC where they leave it to the viewer's imagination what happens next.
I'm confident now in Ramsey ability to carry the second game's plot.

Thought it was another great episode personally. The pivotal scene between Ellie and Joel was just as good as the game's counterpart. Also Pedro really acted his ass off with the scene of him and Tommy in the work shed.
Spoiler"I'm failing in my sleep"
Also the couple at the beginning of the episode was hilarious.

“Feels less like an actual movie and more an excuse to get to the next movie that itself may or may not feel like an actual movie.” was a good review quote I saw that pretty much describes my feelings on this movie. Say what you will about the first Ant Man, but it had a small stakes almost a playful feeling for a CBM that's nothing like this.
This movie is trying to setup up for the next setup that way there can be a setup for the next setup and it gets all a bit tiresome.

Another great episode. I think it's my favorite up there with ep 3.
I kind of see why they went with Kathleen now, basically a twist on the trope of has to be strong woman leading a bunch of people. It's jarring and interesting instead to see an average person carry out leadership tasks. She basically became in charge because of her brother and she accepts it with a self awareness that she'll do what needs to be done. But does feel like the Kansas City plot was a little undercooked.
Sam and Henry's actors were fantastic.
SpoilerThe infected coming out of the ground then the bloater was an incredible and terrifying scene in how zombies can actually be a threat without being in every single scene. It makes it worthwhile.
Though I'll admit the slow motion with Kathleen's right hand man before the Bloater came up was jarring compared with the rest of the scene.

What is it with superhero films having messy third acts? It’s been a problem for them for decades.
It's a classic writing issue with having to close out the story after having steady first two acts and usually closure is hardest in storytelling. It's easier to pose interesting new questions at the start of a movie compared with answering them in a satisfying manner.

Well that was truly a movie... I found it almost kind of boring and the last act was a bit messy. I feel like Rudd was kind of phoning it in. Majors and Pfeiffer were solid. Some really impressive VFX work went into it. It's definitely not the third film of the Ant-Man trilogy but rather it plays itself as a starting point.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/the-last-of-us-tv-ratings-episode-3-1235313243/
QuoteThe third episode of HBO's The Last of Us delivered another week of ratings growth.
Sunday's installment brought in 6.4 million cross-platform viewers, up from 5.7 million the previous week and 4.7 million for its Jan. 15 premiere. The uptick on Sunday came despite the episode debuting at the same time as the hugely watched AFC Championship game on CBS.
HBO also says that four of its current series, including The Last of Us, have averaged more than 15 million viewers for their most recent seasons.

As cool as it was to see tampons get looted on television, I doubt you could actually use 20 year old ones.
Amazing episode.

I'm baffled that The Batman or Top Gun: Maverick didn't get nominated for cinematography.
Also happy to see Hsu get the nom. Good year for Irish cinema too.

Checking the gun for bullets I'd have thought.

I know it's been months since these posts but having actually worked on or been at a few film sets I gotta chim in. Procedures on a film set aren't the same as real life gun safety (because if it was movies with any kind of weaponry would never get made at all since a lot of the time there's a firearm pointing at someone). If the crew hands you a prop gun actors always assume it's safe if they're told it's "cold". No actor would ever examine or open a gun that is handed to them by the AD. It would result in a fine and a maybe even a stalled production especially if it involves SAG-AFTRA protocols. Ensuring the safety of the firearm occurs before the actor is given the prop and is the job of other people in the film crew.
My last job we had over a dozen guns for a shot that spanned over a few days and when the actors were handed their prop guns I didn't see one actor inspect their weapon to see if it was empty. Because they were already checked like what thousands of other film productions do by professionals.
Now sure you can argue Baldwin might or might not be liable for other reasons. The film set of Rust was a mess, chain of command involving inspection of firearms for the film was flagrantly broken. But specifically blaming Baldwin for not checking if his gun was loaded is pointless.

Barbie lives up to the hype, does a great job balancing campy humor and some of the messages. Gosling was incredible of course. Whole cast did a great job. Oppenheimer next.
