I'm in for the game! And opening weekend or total? I'm guessing total lol, so I'd agree to that!

I think bombing standards are different for a $50-70 million movie than they are for a $250 million movie. If the budget is small the movie can have a horrible theatrical run and may still make money in the long term thanks to TV and other home media sources of revenues. Movie like TLR need to make decent amount of money during their theatrical runs or they will never break even.
I'm pretty sure the majority of movies break even in the long haul - maybe 30 or 40 years later, but they all break even at some point, aside from maybe Pluto Nash or a few ultra bombs.
-
I wouldn't put action as the most sensitive RT films.
But kids movies are the most trailer sensitive movies - if it doesn't garner a big reaction from the kiddies... probably not going to make much money, like Planes for example
Action movies are in the middle - if they have an interesting premise and a good star like the Rock, or Mark Wahlberg - $20 million opening weekend is pretty guarenteed, with a few exceptions like Snitch of course.

I'm calling it : MU over TLR this weekend!
Hmm...

MU:

6.5 (22)
Yeah I could see Monsters University topping Lone Ranger - not impossible, but Disney might fire some people because of it lol

Well here's my ideal runtime ranges:
Animation: 80-100 minutes
Comedy: 85-105 minutes
Horror: 90-110 minutes
Romance: 95-115 minutes
Action, Fantasy & Sci-fi: 100-130 minutes
Drama/War/Epic: 110-180 minutes

Despicable Me 2
Amstar 12 - Lake Mary
Lake Mary, FL
Tuesday, July 2nd 10pm
40% full (more adults than kids)
Trailers:
Smurfs 2: kids laughed
Turbo: some laughs
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2: big audience reaction from both adults and kids. This will break the september record, don't be surprised. Looks great!
Planes: not much of a reaction, was that Dane FUCKING Cook as the lead voice actor?
Enders Game: no reaction, looks expensive
Free Birds: laughs from kids and adults, I really like the premise of this. Impressive.
Film:
It was good. Its not as good as the original, and certainly can't compare to Pixar's best, but it was a lot of fun. The minions and Agnes stole the show, anytime they were on screen you couldn't help but smile. Everybody loved it, very funny, lots of laughs. The CG was astounding, so bright and colorful. It looked just fantastic. They had a lot of 3D money shots during the movie, I could just tell this would look great in 3D. We saw it in 2D because it was so cheap, but knowing what I know now we would have went with 3D. If you like 3D, go see it in that format. You wont regret it.
It's always great when you leave a movie happy and in a great mood. Don't expect some animated masterpiece, just expect a good movie and a good time.
Wow, I remember when the AmStar 12 opened in December 2005, and I saw King Kong for my 10th birthday so many memories there!! I've never seen that theater packed except for Spider-Man 3 and Shrek 3 - pretty empty otherwise.

To go as low as 135 DM2 would have to do something like this:
35m
21m (-40%)
26m (+23%)
30m (+15)
25m (-17%)
How could it hold that bad? It's not a superhero movie.
Exactly! With a 35 million opening day, I'd wager $150 million-$180 million is the range we're looking at

Robert Downey Jr. and Jennifer Lawrence in a new Muppet movie together - summer 2016: make it happen Disney!! Promise RDJ he won't have to do Iron Man 4 get Benedict Cumberbauch to play the villain too! and include a cameo by Emma Stone!
Daniel Day Lewis and Kevin Hart in a buddy cop movie - pompous method actor and street-smart detective have to save Hollywood from a Mexican drug cartel
Adam Sandler and Channing Tatum in Independence Day 2
Sandra Bullock and Hugh Jackman in a formulaic courtroom drama - with a sci-fi twist lol
Jim Gaffigan and Naomi Watts should star in a rom-com together! Falsetto voice: "Oh, he suggested that! That poor Naomi Watts has to see him with his shirt off! Hey mister... there are children watching this!!" lololololol!!
Other than that... Gary Oldman and Tom Hanks could be a good pairing for some sort of political thriller? Maybe Jessica Chastain and Gabriel Iglesias could make a horror comedy together? lol Melissa McCarthey and Jamie Foxx could work! Or Bencio del Toro and Emily Blunt in some sort of pretensious indie drama
Ooh! One more idea: a crime spoof with Bradley Cooper and Rebel Wilson

Well considering its supposed to make 40% of DM2's 5 day gross I'd wager it's doable especially with 2 million in previewsAnd Kevin Hart will get 20 million for a concert film? Think Like a Man 2 will be HUGE lol!!!Not buying that 5 day estimate for Lone Ranger.
-
Yeah Think Like a Man 2 could break out - and make 105-135 million domestically. That's what happens when you don't just advertise to black people lol (Tyler Perry, etc)Awesome numbers for Kevin Hart- dude's a champion. When Think Like A Man 2 opens to 40+ next summer, we will look back at this movie breaking out as even more proof of his star power.
-
So this could beat Shrek 2 opening day?On a Wednesday?Holy Fuck.
Well 9 years of inflation, 3D and IMAX surcharges, a holiday weekend, and four quadrant appeal will do that for you

Only 5 summer movies left that I wanna see:Monsters UniversityDespicable Me 2The ConjuringNow You See MeThe Great GatsbyThe rest seem like Redbox material lol
-
I'll go with 38 million today with the 4.7 million in previews adding up to.......42.7 million and a great start for those Minions
-
Ugh... more Oscar bait, seriously do blockbusters have a chance in this day and age?
Actors you'd like to see paired up for a film
