    Yeah the idea that right-wingers have historically opposed worker rights, women's rights, civil rights, the poor, environmentalism, to empower the rich white male is completely fabricated by Hollywood. Let's ignore the last 100 years of history.

     

    Nobody will ever know what happened exactly to Trayvon Martin (though I doubt he was looking to rob someone) so it's useless debating it.

    Worker's rights: that was corrupt neo-con carpetbaggers abusing the poor - not true conservatives. Many businessmen with conservative principles treated their employees with respect.

     

    Women's rights: Feminism was fabricated by men so it'd be easier for them to get laid (no reason to get married, and abortion would take care of any unwanted kids) - it's all about putting men down rather than making the sexes equal. They've made it so that being a gentleman is sexism at its worst while calling a girl a "ho" is perfectly acceptable - as long as a white male doesn't say it that is. And the progressive media's treatment of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann and countless other conservative women makes your argument here kinda null and void - if the same things had been said about Helen Thomas or Janet Reno, people would be up in arms.

     

    Civil rights: Liberal Democrats are the reason why black families are falling apart - look at LBJ's extremely progressive Great Society program. Rape, murder, abortion, drug usage, robbery, and poverty all went through the roof in the black community shortly after this program. Conservative Republicans want black people to stop living in victimhood and work hard and get some of that American Dream available for every American. They want more Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr rather than Nicki Minaj and Kayne West or Jay-Z or really any of the misogynistic rappers of today. Progressives only care enough about blacks to keep them voting Democrat.

     

    The Poor: Have food stamps and welfare actually helped anyone? All they do is make poor people lazy - why work hard to make your dreams come true when the government's giving you a free cell phone, free housing, reduced prices for food and clothing, free TV, and you can get yourself a brand new Cadillac too using taxpayer money! My dad grew up under welfare and food stamps and he tells me they were pretty bad years - especially because my grandmother just sat around watching TV, mooching off the government paycheck. Don't tell me liberals care about the poor - they only care enough to keep em voting Democrat.

     

    Enviromentalism: Progressives only see enviromentalism as a way to control people by taxing air and water usage... and since when are trees more valued than a human fetus? Abortion is okay with progressives while if you chop down one tree, that's an act of treason. Not to mention PETA demonizes anyone who decides to hunt - how terrible! ;)

     

    The media tricked you into thinking conservatives and Republicans are against all of those things - they just feel that people should try to succeed without government help or aid. They want people to GASP... think for themselves

     

    And when I said enviromentalists and progressives - I meant eco-terrorists and globalist NWO kingpins: both equally as evil as Muslim jihadists.

    Elysium may depict a highly stratified class system and 99% mentality, but it's framed in the context of a dystopian future where the majority of Earth is an environmental shithole. Of course the masses will be living terrible lives while a select few have the resources to lead good ones and keep the mobs out. It's not political, just a common sense fact about the situation. 

    TDKR's class warfare angle was all a sham, an illusion perpetuated by Bane to paint his takeover in a politically understandable light. Really it was a commentary on how certain forces can manipulate angry mobs into destruction and aggression under the guise of a banner promising equality, rights, and an end to classism.

     

    TDKR is more critical of the 99% movement than the capitalists because in the end it shows the 99% participants like Catwoman's friend and others to really just be self-interested and wanting more stuff for the sake of getting more stuff and violently hurting those who have the stuff they want (not what they need).

    Elysium comes off as trite with the enviromental message - humans have next to no effect on the enviroment. The Earth naturally cools and warms. Granted, pollution is a serious problem but it's always used as an excuse to demonize private industry. Had it stuck to a more standard apolitical sci-fi story about fighting against the elite, I bet it wouldn't come off as such.

     

    I agree with you on TDKR - it's definitely shows that anarchy and chaos (the objective of most in OWS) just leave the streets filled with violence and misery. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Tojo, Mussolini, Castro, Chavez, Che, and most charismatic dictators started out calling for equality. Then, they took a turn for the worse and start abusing the power they tricked the people into giving them.

     

    But Batman is a billionaire so they couldn't really demonize capitalism even if Nolan and Goyer wanted to

    Progressives make crappy villains in movies.

     

    Their great crime is wanting to tax rich people to feed, cloth, and shelter the poor.

     

    That's why movies like Atlas Shrugged are in Wal-Mart bargin bin.

     

    Communist make better villains and movies like Indy 4 have used them but they're terribly outdated.

    That's what the media wants you to believe - the progressives are saintly folks who want to take care of the poor by putting the rich in their place. Yet apparently conservatives are terrible monsters who want to suppress women, imprison the gays, murder the cute bunnies and dolphins, slay the trees, and lynch the blacks - case in point: the whole George Zimmerman trial was manipulated by the media to make it look like "Evil white Republican male murders innocent black child in cold blood" - yet they refused to tell you Trayvon Martin was 6 feet tall, 180 pounds of muscle, excellent at martial arts, played on his varsity football team, and a known troublemaker in his neighborhood. Not to mention he wore a dark black hoodie at night - I bet he had GREAT intentions, huh? and for the record I'd be suspicious of anyone in a black hoodie regardless of race, gender, height, weight, or any other factor.

     

    But eugenics (look it up), the NWO, gun control, and high taxes for the middle class (because they end up getting the burden - whether the lawmakers are Democrat or Republican) are all espoused by Progressives. Abortion is espoused by Progressives. Hollywood has a huge child molestation Mafia - ask Corey Feldman. And I disdain the Catholic Church and Penn State for turning a blind eye toward child exploitation.

     

    A well-made, properly budgeted Atlas Shrugged trilogy could easily be as big as The Blind Side and Passion of the Christ with those in the Heartland/Middle America.

     

    Communists are outdated... but left-wing globalists, socialists, enviromentalists, and Muslim terrorists aren't. Yet I doubt we'll see a blockbuster tentpole with one of them as the sinster antagonist but plenty of oil barons and businessmen bent on espousing Objectivism.

    How many major movies carry a OWS message?

     

    Especially compared to television where every other show encourages the worship of money and fame.

     

    I would say The Dark Knight Rises, In Time, The Hunger Games series all have class warfare themes to some degree.

     

    Really, it's more that capitalists, the rich, and Republicans are always the villains causing pollution, mayhem, destruction, and pure evil.

     

    It's unoriginal to have the same type of villain every time - why can't a crazed enviromentalist be a villain for once? Or a corrupt Democrat politician - with Weiner, both Clintons, John Kerry, John Edwards, OBAMA and all of his cronies, etc. there's plenty of basis for one.

     

    I want more balance in types of villains

     

    Not to mention I find it hypocritical that multi-millionaires like Matt Damon and Jodie Foster get to criticize the rich and say they're part of the 99%... umm no? lol most celebs are total hypocrites and if they really did agree with OWS, they'd take a 90-95% paycut but they won't because they're... wait for it... capitalists.

    By the way, Matt Damon is incredibly overrated and the majority of his movies bomb at the box office. I'd say the Bourne Trilogy is the only times where he truly carried a film to box office success - every other hit of his had him in a supporting role.

     

    I don't hate Elysium but don't act as if its OWS garbage is original.

    Wolverine, Elysium, Conjuring (break out!), Smurfs, and 2 Guns all have 100+ potential, so summer ain't over yet. 

     

    Wolverine: 100% sure - the movie would have to have a 0% RT rating, and a F CinemaScore in order to not cross 100 million

     

    Smurfs: 85% sure it'll cross 100 million - 115 to 125 million is a likely result for this.

     

    2 Guns: 70% sure it'll cross 100 million - Denzel has a lot more star power these days, and Wahlberg is still riding on Ted and Contraband's success: 90 to 130 million is a good range

     

    Conjuring: 45% sure it'll cross 100M - This is definitely a movie that could either do standard horror grosses (50 to 70 million) or become a monster "Blair Witch Project" sized hit (140 to 160 million)... depends on hype and WOM

     

    Elysium: 30% sure it'll cross 100M - honestly this crossing 100M seems unlikely because it's an original property but good WOM could propel it to District 9 levels

     

    Other films include: Turbo (25% sure), We're the Millers (20% sure), The Butler (15% sure), Planes (10% sure), and Percy Jackson 2 (5% sure) are all capable of being sleeper hits with good WOM and some buzz

    Actually, possible 6 (7, but I think RIPD has a 0,000000000000000001% chance of doing it) movies over 20M. That would be a record, I think.

    20M Movies:

    1. The Conjuring - 35 to 40 million

    2. Despicable Me 2 - 24 to 26 million

    3. Turbo - 21 to 23 million (28 to 33 million 5 day)

    4. Grown Ups 2 - 20 to 22 million (no true competition)

     

    I think Red 2 and Pacific Rim will both narrowly miss it with 16-19 million each of them

     

    RIPD will make 8-12 million - total bomb :( too bad since it looks kinda intriguing

    The Reader and Benjamin Button still got less praise than TDK and WALL-E, just saying

    If there is only one thing that i hate about the Academy, that is about the unfair judgement against The Dark Knight!!! All the Academy members who voted for Slumdog over The Dark Knight will be Cursed forever!!!!!! :stirthepot:

    Agreed... TDK was really a crime thriller with a superhero. It didn't feel like a comic book movie - to this day, I'm impressed it made so much despite being a 150 minute crime drama. WALL-E should have gotten a BP nod too. But what makes me mad is that The Reader (62 on RT!! Spider Man 3 got that!!!!) and Frost/Nixon both got mediocre reviews while Benjamin Button's said it was just "good" yet WallE and TDK both got huge praise and they weren't good enough for BP?

    Does anyone really think Iron Man 3 or Star Trek 2 were on the same level as The Avengers and The Dark Knight? If you're going to complain about big-budget tentpoles not getting their due, this isn't the year to do it.

    I wasnt talking about them - I don't think any blockbusters this year should be nominated for an Oscar except maybe Elysium (depends on reviews)

    1. North by Northwest: A-, an underrated Hitchcock classic, Eva Marie Saint was perfect as Miss Kendall :P I'd say it's tied with Psycho for Hitchcock's best (haven't seen Vertigo!)2. Run Lola Run: B+, a fun German action thriller, great visuals with a killer soundtrack to boot: it's my fav foreign film I've ever seen lol3. Spider Man 2 (7th time seein it)4.
