I don't think there is any chance.  It did $3m on Friday and $5m on Saturday.  It dropped around 35% each Sunday, so add in about $3.25m on Sunday and best I can see is $11.25m or possibly $11.5m for the weekend.

The weather isn't going to help it any with parents not wanting to bundle kids up in single digit or below zero temps and Rogue One taking away business.

thanks! I'm still happy with the sub-40% drop, but this weekend they really messed it up with the overestimation at first (20-25% drop) only to go downhill from there. should have seen it coming. haha

    Spoiler

    Yuck.

    Thanks for this.

Like I said, the cliops I have seen have not moved me in the least, and I was confused, because I am certainly a fan of musicals.

Maybe it was Stone and Gosling's less-than-stellar singing or maybe it was the overall...pedestrian feeling of what I saw (in my opinion), but I definitely have no intention of watching it now. Hollywood always does this kind of shit in regards to whites being the saviors, the heroes, the virtuous standards that everyone should strive for.

No wonder Hollywood itself is so enamored of this film.

    Spoiler

The movie is kinda lightly mocking that trope of the Gosling character tho. And then the Gosling character grows out of that white douche phase later too. I think one of the Chazelle's strengths as a director is that he never falls in love with his own characters, he rather stays stern and sober then subtely makes fun of them.

American Sniper was a huge hit though

Yeah, when it comes to AS I take Cinemascore as a good BO indicator calling it right. After all it's not necessarily about quality. Anyway I did a research and this film called miracle from heaven got an A+ this year. Queen of Katwe as well according to an article but it is not listed on the Cinemascore website.

After the results of Friday, it is now very likely that Disney will finish the year with a domestic BO north of $3B, the first time ever in cinematic history that a studio has achieved this.

They've really outdone themselves this year, what a ride.

Their lineup was simply impeccable, both commercial AND critical success. I mean just look at the titles: R1, Dory, CW, TJB, Zoo, Moana and DS.

She told the story during a Catching Fire promo, which is likely where Graham Norton heard of it to spring it on her this time. THEN she explained that there had been a cast briefing about the sacred rocks while she was still working on another project, so she missed it.  She doubled down on the physical comedy this time, but did not look like she was enjoying herself (her hands covered her face more than once).  She also apologized.

gotcha, thanks for clarification. Should have fact-checked first to jump on the conclusion cause the only bit I saw was like a 2-min clip.

For Beasts? It will be past that by the time the Christmas weekend has come and gone - and should get to 230 by the time all is done, maybe 240 at the top end if everything  goes right for it.

yeah, I think $230M-$240M sounds right.

Begin Again opened to 500k (just 200 theaters) and went on to make almost $26m.   How does WOM for this compare?

WOM is phenomenal, those who've seen this all LOVE it, but it's not as widespread yet. BA had a very peculiar run with a crazy multi, and its soundtrack really did the wonder. LLL's soundtrack is not yet seen on the top of the charts (especially with this new album release of the popular band here, BIGBANG), but it's steadily climbing. It might not need the help of the soundtrack after all, since already moving on the way faster pace and after today it'd have sold about 800k tickets and that's only after 8 days, the same amount of sales that Begin Again had after 19 days, before its WOM really kicked in. (BA's ticket sales total was 3.43M)

Didn't really get what you mean. Would you be so kind as to elaborate a little more?

Beasts has a larger family audience than other films which means it's Monday drops are harsher than say something like Office Christmas or Hacksaw Ridge.

yup, what narniadis said. if a movie skews more family audience then it tends to have much stronger weekends and more muted weekdays. Like you would rather go see FB with your family on a Sunday afternoon than on a Monday evening alone. That's why animated films usually see 80%+ drops on Monday.
