  1. yup, subtitled version. They were Japanese characters singing J-Pop. Different two things Yup, I understand that they were just minor comic relief characters and they weren't supposed to be treated equally and have depths like others but them being unnecessarily dumb/annoying/kawaii and not being able to communicate with Buster Moon was associated with nothing but their caricatured "J-Popness". (it's also in the promo clips so I don't think it's a spoiler) like watching William Hung being ridiculed next to "normal people" that are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and wondering if it's a pure coincidence or we actually need a better Asian representation in Hollywood.
  2. I didn't think I would but I happened to catch Sing with two friends and we felt lowkey insulted by but other than that it was harmless, I guess.
  3. Meanwhile, it is reported that Azalia Banks has been practicing witchcraft, sacrificing chickens....
  4. ah, makes sense, makes sense. thanks for clearing up.
  5. oh is it? didn't know cause it wasn't listed on BOM.
  6. it was at $194.9m on Wednesday, they forgot to add extra $4.4m ($199.3m)
  7. oh about that I have no doubt, I was just wondering how the TC will be for the holdovers.
  8. crazy cause there's still no La La Land expansion date out yet. Lionsgate is doing a great job.
  9. in case you wonder, the wide titles slotted in Jan are: Underworld, Hidden Figures, A Monster Calls, The Bye Bye Man, Monster Trucks, Sleepless, Live By Night, Silence, Patriots Day, The Founder, The Resurrection of Gavin Stone, Split, xXx, 20th Century Women, Bastards, A Dog's Purpose, Gold and Resident Evil
  10. is January 2017 more packed than usual? I counted and it will have 18 wide releases/expansions. I don't know how "wide" they are talking about tho. I assume 2000+? or maybe 1000+.
  11. what I'm happy about it tho is it somehow managed to regain the lead to TS2. it's about $3m ahead now comparing the same day. (day 36) EDIT: but then again I just figured it wasn't actually behind it ever. just the gap was rapidly narrowing.
  12. I think Passengers's still got #3, it already takes in higher dailies and adult-skewing films have bigger jumps on the post-Christmas weekend.
  13. @FantasticBeasts this is completely random but, did you get Slytherin on Pottermore? cause I did too..! and Wampus.
  14. I think animation fatigue really is a thing, Moana is not exactly kicking asses it should be either.
  15. Aside the issue that a movie's quality and its box office performance not going together, I've been thinking about this question a lot these days, why do we even bother deciding which film is objectively "good" and which is not if the nature of film criticing is purely subjective and it's just a matter of personal preference? Like, how subjective can we really be when it comes to telling "good" arts apart from the "bad" ones? to stretch it a little, are we allowed to say Nicki Minaj is better than Beethoven if we really think so? Could the population in the 23rd century possibly think Minaj is a superior musician? Cause reputations do change and things like that do happen. Can I say E.L. James is less talented than J.K. Rowling when there are many people out there who genuinely enjoy Fifty Shades of Grey more than Harry Potter? all the efforts to aggregate reviews, are they just pointless? The fact that such collective opinions can be so easily diminished by individuals' personal tastes confuses me a little these days, about the notion that I've had about film critics and stuff. Maybe they are really meaningless?
  16. That's been written on the wall for a while I was quite obsessed with the scenario Moana snatching that #10 spot but now I totally gave up. But hey, Ratatouille was #11 that year too.
  17. a new original animated film from Pixar. (about Cinco de Mayo) EDIT: I was wrong, it's about Día de Muertos.
