  1. Who sent a T-1000 back to kill young Sarah Conner at the lake? Skynet, Sarah was still set to have John. While John was still going to end the war on the machines. Before they could turn him into a Terminator. Thanks to John memories they know have a way to find Sarah pre 1984.

Who sent Arnie back to save her? That's the mind unanswered question in the movie and the main characters don't know yet either.  They went over the topic to basically tell the audience this will be explained in a later movie.

How was Arnie able to kill a T-1000 when he saved young Sarah at the lake? No he was just able to stop/delay T-1000 enough. So him and Sarah could get away. He probably used that rocket and his pieces spread in the water.

Why could Arnie build a functioning time machine pre-1984 but John Conner of 2017 hasn't yet? Arnold has it in his files how to build one. John could build one too. But that wasn't his purpose. John was sent by Skynet  in 2014 to help create Skynet little by little. That's why he was working with the Dysons and helping them develop stuff. So basically when one of those guys got suck on something he would help them out. Remember he's a infiltration unit and his goal was to gain everyone's trust. So everyone would welcome Genisys with welcome arms and Skynet could take over the world. If John just showed up out of the blue and created everything for them. It would have looked way to fishy and he wouldn't have gotten the same amount of trust.

How does John Conner even exist if Sarah and Kyle have yet to do the deed? Well let's not forget John is basically dead and no longer human. He doesn't have a heart or human brain or anything anymore. The Nao-bots virus consumed his body and copied his memories, feelings and his thoughts. They did that to a John Connor from a timeline who did exist. Which is why his memories are all from the original timeline. Then had this machine travel to this new alternative timeline to ensure that Judgment Day still happens. There is no actual John Connor in this alternative timeline. Just a machine copied version of a alternative timeline John Connor.

  2. It's not no.1 in America and some other markets so no it's not the number one movie in the world, unless that was sarcasm.

It's number 1 in the world, because it made more money then any other movie did this weekend worldwide. It doesn't have to be actually number 1 in every market to do that. Not that it matters, I'm just kidding around about it. Even though it is true lol.

  3. I don't think anyone is disputing that. I think CJohn's just saying he'd rather have a good actor who isn't a draw as opposed to a mediocre actor who isn't a draw.

I agree, but box office wise. I think this franchise needs another draw to go with Arnold. If it want's to do better with domestic audiences.  If there's a next movie. They should totally bring in a big name to play the main villain.

If it's someone like Matt Smith,

I don't see a sequel doing much better then this one domestically either. But if you add a younger actor with draw potential as a villain. The thought of Arnold vs the actor could become a appealing. Many have said the Rock, but they won't get him. But someone that could sell a little.

  4. I thought the marketing was fine. They even revealed too much imo. I think the auds just don't care anymore.

I think they don't cared enough, because the movie needed another attraction. The domestic box office is often ruled by teens and the 21-25 year olds. When you got a movie with the main attraction being a 67 year old actor playing the role for a 4th time. Well it's hard to sell that audience on this movie. There's a reason why very few actors over the history of time, have been the lead of a film with the budget this high at Arnold age. There's a reason why this movie performing more like a Expendables movie domestically, rather then a Terminator movie. If they movie was going to go with a 155 million dollar budget, they should have added a actor who has some drawing ability to play John Connor or Kyle Reese. I doubt anybody thinks guys like Jason Clarke or Jai Courtney will never been leading man stars. Thankfully the rest of the world doesn't mind a aging star, so Terminator Genisys is doing well still internationally.

  5. Seems reasonable. I'm pretty sure the sequels are dead, unless overseas gross really surprises, which I doubt it will. Also the legs will probably be poor enough, that Paramount will cancel the planned sequels.

So far Terminator Genisys is showing pretty good holds. So it could have decent legs. Right now it's ahead of Edge of Tomorrow and Now You See Me by 8-9 million and they grossed 100 and 115 million. While it's about 1.5 million behind Pacific Rim after 5 days and that grossed 101 million. So I think Terminator is a lock for 89-90 million. While it has a good chance at 100 million. With 110-115 million still possible. I guess we will see what kind of legs it has Monday through Sunday next week. I'm hoping for 30 million plus..

  6. Well regardless, Paramount is gonna look silly for announcing dates to the two Terminator sequels, before the film even came out. Like they say, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I agree, my guess is Skydance convinced them that there would be sequels. According to a guy on SZ who works with theArnoldfans site. I guess Arnold told them pre-production stuff starts on the Terminator sequels in the spring. Unless something terrible/unexpected happens and he doesn't consider it's domestic start that. Which means it would really have to underperform internationally for that to happen. So I guess if it does make 350-400 million worldwide the sequels are still possible. Considering we've had 150 million dollar Batman, Star Trek and Mission Impossible movies all gross less then 400 million worldwide over the past ten years and get sequels. Well maybe I shouldn't count out these sequels yet either. Still until I hear other wise, I'm considering the sequels dead.

  7. Paramount just desperately wanted more franchises and figured that a Terminator reboot / sequel could be a hit. That was not to be the case.

Considering Paramount also only had to pay 33 percent of the costs, it wasn't a very hard decision for them. Even if Terminator Genisys makes only 100/350 million. Paramount is likely to make all there costs back, who would lose out is David Ellison and Skydance  who put basically 67 percent of the cost. His dad is one of the richest men in the world, so he will be just fine though lol. My guess is if the sequels happen, it's going to depend on Skydance/David Ellison putting up majority of the money again. Because even if Terminator Genisys makes 110/400 million it's still going to take years for it to be profitable with VOD sales, DVD/Blu-Ray, tv rights and merchandise. It would take a lot of belief in this franchise to put up more money for two movies, when you haven't made your money back on the first movie yet. That's why I don't think the sequels will end up happening. Even if Megan/David Ellison, Dana Goldberg are both huge Terminator fan-boys/girls.

  8. That's really not so bad. Weren't estimates saying $50 million anyway?

Paramount expectations were 55 million for over five days. So it would end up 10 million below expectations. But the movie has had some solid holds just to be there. Considering it opened slightly below Magic Mike XXL. It's still going to need good holds over the next week to put it in a position where it should be, due to such a poor opening. Right now it looks like it will end up making 95-100 million domestically. But if it could somehow get to around 120 million it would look a lot better for the film. For that to happen though it would have to gross 30-35 million over the next week.

  9. Great for IO and JW, Terminator is still bad, but wow at Mike. Could this be another Entourage for WB and be out of most theaters by the end of the month?

Terminator numbers have been bad, but the holds have been strong all week. That said, it will need strong holds for a number of weeks to make up for such low opening. Even if it does do near 30 million this weekend. It's still 10 million behind Paramounts 5 day expectations.

  10. On Friday, July 3rd of that year, nothing that grossed more than $1M increased by over 60% from Thursday.

Doubling would be a 100% increase...

I always figured there would be a big increase today. Inside Out and Jurassic World are clearly still hot and Terminator older fan-base is much more likely to see it today then on a weekday. I even expect a Magic Mike XXL increase later tonight. While one or two of these movies could decrease. Things should be interesting later tonight. I'm going to see Terminator Genisys for the 4th day in a row tonight with some friends. So I will be adding to that box office. Sadly my wife and her friends will be seeing Magic Mike.

  11. But this sold out to PG13 to insure profibility, it just makes its failure more embarrassing. Maybe if it was rated R people may have been more willing to give it a chance. Also, if it was written and made for an R rating we may have gotten a different movie that wasn't desperately trying to appeal to the Marvel crowd and maybe that movie would have had better trailers and marketing.

Yeah, if you took this exact same movie and added some CGI blood and one or two extra F bombs it probably wouldn't be doing as well.

A perfect example is the Terminator Salvation script. The original R rated script was decent, a lot better than what we got but they totally fucked it up trying to appeal to everyone. Maybe if they had stuck to it the final product would have done better.

It still wouldn't have mattered with the grosses. If you got Arnold as a lead in a Terminator movie at near 70 years old the market is going to be limited domestically. Even the R rated Expendables 1-2 movies or PG-13 first Red movie shows the market for these old action guys these days top out at 85-100 million range(while the terrible R rated 5th Die Hard topped out at 67 million with a February release. If it's released in the summer it probably makes it to 80-85 million too). Which is what this movie will probably finish at as well. So if they couldn't get another star/big name to star alongside Arnold, they should have made this movie for closer to 110 million. It wouldn't have matter if they rated it R like the Expendables or PG-13 like Red. Unless there's a strong demand for a movie like Indy back in 08 or Star Wars now. You can't have your lead pushing 70 and have this high of budget for a movie. Unless you a have a Chris Pratt or The Rock or heck even Chris Pine starring alongside with him. Younger audiences don't care for Jason Clarke or Jai Courtney, so the movie just becomes all about Arnold then.

  12. Where is your PG13 rating now Terminator!

It's not like if it was R it would be performing better lol. If you add gore on a few scenes and another f-bomb it doesn't change much. The whole PG-13/R stuff is just nonsense. Majority of americans just don't want to pay to see Arnold as a lead in a movie anymore. That is why the movie is struggling the way it is, even as a Terminator movie. That said more of Arnold older fans will be out over the weekend. So I do expect a increase. But If they were going to go with 155 million dollar PG-13 action movie like they did. They should have casted a big name younger actor to co-lead this with Arnold. Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney aren't going to get butts in the seats. This movie needed another attraction to go along with Arnold for it to sell the way they wanted it too.

  13. Remember studios take home less of the international gross. If Terminator does $85m in the U.S., it'll need to do over $300m internationally not to be considered a bomb.

I think it will do closer to 90-95 million domestic and maybe slightly more(Paramount will keep in in theaters for a while to make every dollar possible), but near 300 million internationally is possible with China. It's not going to do well enough to make the sequels happen. But I don't see as one of the massive bombs of the year. More on par with what we saw with Pacific Rim and Edge of Tomorrow over the last two years. IMO it was a mistake even making this movie for 155 million. With the way Arnold movies has struggled domestically, even going back to the late 90s. They should have kept the budget closer to 110 million dollar budget like San Andreas had. Even if they had to cut down on some of the CGI with the John Connor character. Then if the movie was a hit they could have increased the budget for the sequels.
