no-one honestly believes that
Except for the general public that don't keep up with sites like this or similar sites and only read about box office numbers in the newspaper, general news sites or hear about the top 5 in news highlights.
In any case it is the first Official "Unofficial" 100 million dollar opener of 2014.

Dear God in heaven I hope it's nothing like the Peter Jackson version. I still remember my mother and cousin falling asleep during it before Kong even showed up when we saw it in theaters the day after Christmas when it came out. Movie needed like 40-60 minutes of dullness cut out of it.
Granted, I don't hate the movie because I can at least fast forward to the good parts on Blu-ray.

It'll certainly benefit from being the first big animated film in a while (The Boxtrolls may be solid, but Laika is still relatively niche compared to other animated studios, and The Book of Life doesn't have an awful lot of potential) so I think that this could definitely open over $60m.
Though I hope the Boxtrolls is good (Paranorman was just about a masterpiece to me), I don't see it doing well. Book of Life does look visually astounding but it's by the same studio that brought us Free Birds.

Okay forgive me if I'm wrong. I thought that Big hero six. was kind of like a super hero movie about six heroes. maybe it's not, but some trendy looking preteen and some white bloby thing doesn't strike me as exciting. at all. in fact the trailer looked awful, which stinks cause I love Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph and Tangled.
You have a right to your opinion. At the same time, Tangled, Frozen, and to an extent Wreck-it-Ralph had weak trailers. Look how they turned out. It's like don't judge a Disney animated movie by its trailer.

I doubt it.
I can see both films co-existing and doing well but after the success of Frozen, I can see Big Hero 6 breaking out and doing well.

Soooo. . . . could this actually beat Interstellar on Opening Weekend? I think it might actually possible.
I think Big Hero 6 is gonna have a huge marketing campaign.

So there will be new teams now, #TeamHoney and #TeamGogo.
Similar with the debates between #TeamAnna and #TeamElsa on Frozen fandom.
But, I'm on #TeamGogo.
#TeamGoGo FTW

No. it's going to remain the Lego Movie.
I keep forgetting that movie exists. . . and I own it, lol.

I kinda doubt it will.
Yeah, you're right, it'll probably be Penguins this year.

I'm hoping this becomes the animated big event of the year. I have big hopes for this after Frozen.
So far in the animated world of 2014, I've avoided The Nut Job and Legends of Oz like the plague, was utterly disappointed in Rio 2 (I actually liked the first film) and simply enjoyed Dragon 2 (It was a good movie, but doesn't come close to the genius of the first). I just skipped Peabody and Sherman due to lack of interest.
Book of Life also looks like it could be good.

I may have enjoyed Transformers 4, but damn, Apes was a great movie. I'm glad it's doing well.

That's not too bad. Film's supposed to do between $50 to $70 million anyway.

Transformers: Age of Extinction . . 2014's unofficial official first $100 million opening of 2014.
I still immensely enjoyed the movie but even I call a little BS on this.

Dear Diary
Today I learned that people and studios will whine and bitch when a studio lies and says that a movie made $3 million more than it was supposed to. Ah well, day's coming to a close.

While I really don't give a damn about Paramount lying about its opening weekend gross (a studio being dishonest, how novel), $97 million would still put it on top of other film's 90 million openings this year. Plus it'll probably make over $100 million by the end of the day today anyway.
-
So Transformers may have the $100 million opening after all?

Huh, it's actually getting a sequel. Color me surprised.

Studios, stop making males driven films. They are dead. Chick flicks and comedies rule.
Frozen wins Winter, Maleficent wins Summer, Mockingjay wins Fall.
Maleficent has yet to win the summer. You are forgetting TRANSFORMERS will likely make 900 million to a billion worldwide.

So both appear to be doing decent. Not a bad week at all.

This is a fairly odd choice to make a movie on.
