  1. Going back to the table is a positive sign. I do union negotiations and I promise you the news after today won't sound good, but that will always be the case in a first meeting back to the table. Everyone will spend the next few meetings getting everything out of their system with little progress. Still a lot of work to be done, but it is a good sign as long as they keep meeting.

Its very entertaining to see a lot of people on Twitter/YouTube etc. trying to say that

    a) Barbie is woke feminist propaganda and

    b) Barbies success is destroying woke feminist Disney at the box office

    at the same time.

I'm convinced part of Barbie's success is that it proclaims it's feminism extremely loud and proud (it's not trying to "sneak" it in there) while at the same time it's also operating as all things to all people. I've seen conservative readings on Barbie alongside all the others.

    MI7 MTC1

    Monday Early shows - 9149/53358 201153.31 217 shows

    previews(tuesday) - 12545/548109 243115.81 2679 shows

its under a day but nothing crazy so far. I would not call it uber blockbuster level or anything. That said this may not behave like one. With a shorter PS cycle this could ramp faster.

Edit: Added early shows data. It definitely looks lot better with early shows added. @Jayhawk the Hutt

    Thanks for running it again!

Mission is a PLF heavy franchise and it will make what will be a subdued previews (due to Tuesday pricing) look a bit better because I think the PLF early access shows will get very close to selling out.

Is there genuine interest in answering this question? How many film's first 50 reviews were ~50% positive and ended up 15?/20? points higher? Is a basic descriptive question we can answer. Granted, it's likely to not control for Cannes effect so what's the testable hypothesis?

The reviews are more heavily slanted to top critics at this point than it will end up being by a large margin. Over half of the reviews at this point are top critics, by the end of reviews, that ration will likely settle at more like 20% or so.

I don't doubt reviews will improve a good deal once it screens to individuals outside of Cannes. That said, the best case imaginable is getting into the 70s on RT. Realistically it could get into the mid 60s. Either way, if audiences buy into it, it could still do well or, at least, much better than people have it pegged. Should be walkup heavy a la a Jurassic movie. Of course, it won't open anywhere near what they open to but should still see significant walkups.

Biggest hurt is that it was in the 30s/40s to start. The Cannes premiere was a total misread, though I'm sure they were confident it would get good reactions there. Regardless think it probably ends up fresh with the baked-in lowered expectations from the screenings that will happen over the next few weeks.

The funny part about the complains is that the digital aspect is coming from Lightning and color grading, not bad VFX

And yes it will look good on the big screen, the type of visual aspect they choose normally don’t translate well to YouTube and Twitter compression

Color grading can change pretty radically from a trailer too. But yeah it def has a digital sheen in some shots that weren't present when they were shooting on film (obviously).

Best modern franchise but that was a wildly disappointing trailer relative to Fallout or even the teaser for this. Why does everything look CGI?? Where's the big hook stunt? What's the plot? Gotta step it up if this is going to breakout tbh.

I partially agree, although it is a very mild criticism. Certainly  not everything looks like CGI, but there are some elements with that couldn't be avoided (a lot of the train crash for instance based on the circumstances). Venture a guess it will look a lot better on the big screen with a good projector. Also, they haven't given away plot details in these trailers for awhile.

    Very good trailer IMO.

The opening half hour or so is solid. It falls apart when him and mutt are exploring the ruins and never really recovers. I remember liking the punch-up by the ants and that’s about it.

Totally agree that this movie ‘going deeper’ into Indy’s character would be walking on thin ice. It didn’t work for Craig’s bond and I’m not convinced it’d be a good idea here.

On and off it did. Casino Royale is one of my favorites ever.

For Indy, I don't mind it. I really mean for better or worse. The movie is clearly going to be more reliant on a more emotional journey for Indy (which I think was well executed with Last Crusade with the daddy issues though that wasn't particularly deep). It just relies on the execution. I'm not expecting a masterpiece but Mangold can direct a really solid picture.

Had a browse of the Indiana Jones Reddit. The more interesting thing is how crystal skull has, like the prequels but to a far lesser extent, had something of a rehabilitation. Although, like the prequels, it doesn’t seem to amount to anything more than “I saw it when I was 10 and everything I saw at that age is good so shut up.”

I am a defender of it. Think the action scenes (especially the opening) are pretty great. There are plenty of annoying bits, it's definitely too reliant on CGI, the last 20 minutes is mediocre, and it is thin in its characterization, though I don't think Spielberg really is all that interested in going deep on Indiana Jones (I think Dial of Destiny will be, for better or worse).

  10. Clip discourse is insane. It's taken totally out of context and studios always put out a relatively random scene from the movie. I agree it's nothing great or mind-blowing (my biggest fear of the movie is that the action will be mediocre, especially compared to the incredible sequences from the previous films).

That being said this is from the scene that leaked from SW Celebration. Having seen the whole thing, it's probably the weakest part of the scene, which was quite good. We'll also have a good idea of reviews on Thursday regardless.
