Just got back. That number sounds pretty much expected with the sneaks #. Still will be an enormous weekend, maybe some of the holdovers will hold better now.

Kinda surprised District 9 isn't in the top 10. Good list.

I actually may see MJ1 tomorrow with a friend. Saw the previous two with him (somewhat randomly I might add) so I might as well keep the tradition going!

Good numbers all around, what's IS looking like this weekend?
-
This should play well throughout Jan and Feb, it sounds like a good amount of Oscar nods are coming its way.
-
Point taken haha. In general though it is.

Big Hero 6 had more marketing than This
And Disney is like the king of marketing.

Yeah it's what I thought, the curse of higher expectations. If THG and CF had opened to around this we would be saying it was a solid opening. If it "only" makes 125m that would still be great, with the #1 spot of the year still very much in play.

IS is having a good run. I thought it would end up higher before release, but it is holding well.

Yeah F&F died for a bit and then came back. Potter just kept going for 10 years, pretty much without a break. It is easily the biggest pop culture property of my generation (~25 yrs & younger)

Yeah I also expect Neighbors to draw big which will cut into SM's audience. If Godzilla even comes close to living up to the hype, that could really cut it's legs off.

So what kind of drop is Spidey in for next weekend? 60%+?

Cap 2 has passed Thor 2!!

In Virginia, spring break ends with the Monday following Easter, although this year, because of the snow cancelations, northern va/Dc schools were in session today.
I went to school K-12 in NOVA and we never got the off the Monday after Easter....

And by tomorrow I mean today.

Well Cap 2 will pass Thor 2 tomorrow.

Solid number for Cap, thought the drop would be lower seeing many had off yesterday. I mean who could really complain about the run it's having?
-
Great hold by Cap! 250m should happen now.
-
Cap really did open at the perfect time, huge blockbuster with no real competition for an entire month until TASM2 came out. Adding to that fact is that it is a really damn good movie, It pretty much was the perfect storm to play to it's box-office ceiling.

Great number for Cap. Has a chance to be #1 for 4 straight weekends, and a chance to get to 250m. Great run.

I figured Transcendence would be a big disappointment (pegged it at $16-17 million), but this is a bit of something else. Ouch. Hopefully Pfister has a more successful second directorial outing.
Hopefully he will get a second outing. Knowing Hollywood he probably will.

So looking at Easter's past, probably meaning 21m-25m for Cap? Possibly (but not likely) more than that?

Box Office Mojo @boxofficemojo 1m
Weekly Box Office: 'Captain America' - $57.3 million, 'Rio 2' - $52.9 million, 'Oculus' - $16 million... http://bit.ly/QldUwc #boxoffice
Cap's 2nd week drop (51.3%) was much better than both IM3 (57.9%) and TDW (58.3%). Hoping Cap can win a 3rd straight weekend, although Rio 2 may beat it.
