So this has a 135m dollar budget give or take, and it's still shooting. It opens wide on Jan. 8th on the same date as Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (right?). And Michael Bays new movie comes out the weekend after and it looks murica! ala American Sniper and Lone Survivor. Is this movie going to flop? Or does Leo's star power (along with Hardy) save the project?
If it's an Oscar contender it can make pretty solid money, especially with Leo in the lead. But you're right, the budget is really high, and a mixed reception could doom a movie like this, as it doesn't seem GA friendly.

JW IS NOT STUPID.
Yes it is, doesn't mean you can't like it. I mean GOTG is pretty dumb but it's probably my favorite movie of last year.

They should've gotten one of the big name Indian actors. Could have broadened its appeal.

He's brown. That's good enough for Hollywood.

MI5= best movie of the summer (well maybe behind Mad Max). Near perfect action blockbuster. Happy it did well this weekend. Theater was about 80% full for a 10am showing. Crowd loved it.

Well a mid to upper 50s OW for MI has to be considered a success. Should have solid legs but it's probably gonna fall short of 200m (which would be awesome) About to see it in a hour!!
-
Going to see MI with the entire family tomorrow. Rare that we all go see a summer blockbuster together.
-
That would be a great number! Hope it holds up. Thanks Gopher!Uhhhh, let's put MI5 at 20.5 as of 7:20 EST!

It really sucks that every director of a successful movie has to move to another franchise. It would be nice if they were allowed to do something original. I know, I know beating on a dead horse.

Great for MI. Hope it's at the high end, 60m would be in play.
-
It's still really early guys. Numbers could be quite different once evening shows hit.
-
4m is fine for RN. It will have a large amount of walkups and it will play to the older crowd. Hoping it gets over 50m.

Oh boy. This is gonna be interesting right in the middle of primary season. I dislike Bay and his movies but this movie is certain to provoke a crazy reaction. Just lean back and enjoy.

Just got out of Trainwreck. Absolutely hilarious but it lost steam in the 3rd act and picked up at the end. Like all Apatow movies it was in need of serious trimming. Schumer is gonna be a star.

Even if IO doesn't squeak ahead of Furious 7, we're going to get a wholly original movie in the top five DOM for the first time since Avatar.
1. TFA/JW
2. JW/TFA
3. Ultron
4. Furious 7 / Inside Out
5. Inside Out / Furious 7
Minions is going to fall short of the mark, and with the exception of another original Pixar, I don't see any challengers.
MJ2 should get over IO but your point still stands.

Marvel is in trouble, didn't you hear? Their last movie was only a solid hit, not a mega blockbuster, clearly showing the public's growing hatred of Marvel and the the superhero genre. Is it in trouble?

I know Scott has many different interests, but going from the Counselor to Exodus is an abruptly hilarious change in subject matter.I think Prometheus is underrated (despite that holy script, it's extremely well-directed), but The Counselor is so nihilistically awful it's hard to fathom, and Exodus was gorgeous to look at but otherwise thoroughly mediocre.
For now I'll keep giving Scott a chance, but if this one goes the way of his recent output, that might be it.

Well looks like I picked a good weekend to miss. I missed horribly on all my predictions. Good for Southpaw, I guess.

Oh my god.Irrarritu: "Look, if you lose some lives on set, you've gotta be prepared for it. That's the job of the director. (knock on the door as assistant whispers in ear) Oh, the key grip died? Well, you keep pushing. Once you see the end result, you'll understand.

Really liked the trailer, however as all have said, it is not well edited, but it hit the major beats. Hope this is a worthy sequel to Skyfall, the cinematography certainly is.

I try to do that every week. Too expensive to justify seeing all the movies I want to see at full price with what I'm making. Wednesday also has cheap movies near me, which is nice when there is a backlog of movies I want to watch.Tuesday increases this summer have been ridiculous. Are people just waiting for a Tuesday so they can watch movies for cheap? Good strategy for sure.

Man I'd thought that Trainwreck would jump more. Oh well can't really complain about its run so far.

Finally saw the trailer last night before bed. Really good! Different than a lot of Pixar trailers (i.e. More conventional) but still emotional. As many have stated before, the backgrounds are absolutely astonishing. Pixar probably has two major hits in a year!

Ok, so I finished the book last week. Took me a little while to process my thoughts on it. And not gonna lie, I was disappointed. Certainly not terrible, but not great or even very good in my eyes. Still the many problems I had with the book could actually make it into a much better film, which is rare, plus there are a lot of strengths that make for a strong foundation for a potentially great film.
