Oh god, you know that's gonna be the next nostalgic disaster reboot

I mean...is Airport really relevant any more? I don't even think it was relevant 20 years ago. It's basically like Love Story, where it was one of the biggest hits of all time when it came out, but I don't think anybody under the age of 50 even knows what it is.

Now an Airplane reboot? That I could see happen if that Naked Gun remake becomes a hit.

  2. Re: Twisters' US appeal, it's doing what I predicted in being a smaller-scale TGM. Its got the Americana stuff that appeals to flyover and rural/conservative areas, has tons of action and spectacle for the A-List/Unlimited people who try to see everything in PLFs, feels fresh in tackling a concept and location you don't see very often in blockbusters, and it's a strong, well-made blockbuster with solid critical backing that makes it appealing to snobby coastal elites like me. It's really a perfect stor--uh...perfect...combination of elements.

To be fair Barbie and Mario are ridiculously big IPs. And, Oppenheimer is Nolan. I think a lot of people never really bought into it being a big change because of that.

Oh, I remember there was a lot of people saying stuff like this a year ago. Like somehow because Barbie and Mario were popular and stuff like Little Mermaid or Guardians of the Galaxy underperformed (though still made more money than most movies would ever dream of), that people were sick of these sequels and nostalgic toy commercials and wanted something fresh and new...and somehow these nostalgic toy commercials that only made their money because they are nostalgic toy commercials were proof of that? I even got pushback from people when I said the Barbie movie was a toy commercial. Which like...huh????????
