This made me laugh when I saw it on Twitter. You see Maxxxine yet, bb?
Hoping to see it in the next couple days. Right now I'm ruminating on what movie I want to see today on my day off.

Who else is getting positively sick of "white this" and "black that"? Holy shit.
If nobody outside of old white men (which isn't true at all) can appreciate a Roman Empire/gladiator epic then that's pretty pathetic, honestly. Let's stop putting people into neat little boxes and see what actually happens when the film comes out.
I mean maybe you don't like race being brought up, but that is a legit query to bring up on a movie's box office potential. Like movies are skewing more and more towards minority viewers, and generally these types of sword and sandal movies generally skew towards old white dudes, like my dad. Of course that doesn't mean it's only that specific demo that likes it and nobody else is into it. And I'm sure I will be proven spectacularly wrong once the movie comes out and we get Deadline's demos. But I'm making an educated guess. The same educated guess everybody else gets to make for any other movie ever.

He actually used to bully me on a daily basis for a solid year or two. To the point where I had mental issues and was afraid to even go on the forum I was an administrator of. And let me tell you, people sharing his tweets here, even using the "Voldemort" nickname, does not help at all. It actually makes me sick to my stomach seeing his stupid avatar. But when I brought it up, people insisted that I was being emotional. That we just have to share his posts. That we have to have his box office tweets up here, even though Charlie shares the exact same thing and he treats me and everybody else here with love and respect. It's not very fun that my feelings and emotions are somehow invalid, but I guess I have no choice. Ohhh well.

Well it is the perfect movie to come out two weeks after a election with two old White guys. Wait let me check the news and make sure that is still the plan....
Honey, it's too early for this.

I mean Gladiator's something only old white guys are into. Not gonna speak globally, but I would think the usual 140-180M for high-end dad movies is what to expect box office wise.

Probably drive-in double feature revenue sharing with DM4 (both Universal)
Firestarter going from 21st to 8th place in one weekend just off the back of drive-ins where it played after Jurassic World 3 will forever be iconic.

QuoteFRIDAY PM: Despicable Me 4 is looking to post a Friday of $23.4M, on its way toward a $64.4M 3-day and 5-day of $112M at 4,428 sites, which is still north of tracking’s range of $110M to $120M. It skews younger than Inside Out 2, so don’t expect the late evening draws. Illumination continues to have bragging rights with the franchise with DM4 becoming the animation studio’s 12th title to open at No. 1. The series holds the most No. 1 debuts of any animated franchise, ahead of Shrek.
Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is seeing $10.8M in its fourth Friday (-36% from a week ago) for an estimated 3-day of $31.2M (-46%) at 3,760 theaters, and running total of $535M by EOD Sunday. That will be 6% ahead of Incredibles 2 at the 24 day point, that Pixar title finaling at $608.5M.
Paramount’s A Quiet Place Day One is shaping up to be a $7.2M Friday, 3-day of $22.2M, -57%, with a 10-day total of $95.5M.
A24’s MaXXXine is fourth with $3.9M today including Wednesday previews for a $9.7M opening at 2,450 theaters, a record start for the Ti West-Mia Goth horror trilogy.
Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die at 2,644 is looking at $2.2M today, $6.6M, -36%, for a running total of $177.3M by Sunday.
Angels Studios’ Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot at 2,200 is eyeing $1M today, $3.1M for the weekend and $6.6M over four days.

Granted I’m in an area that is probably not going to go for it anyways, but this Possum Trot only has one showing at noon at my local theater this weekend. I guess it’s some weird contractual obligation; but why even show it when it is this inaccessible?

Wait a second. Maxxxine is the third film in a trilogy? I have zero recollection of the first two films if so. Or are people making up that fact?
It's a follow-up to the movies X and Pearl. They're slashers from A24 that star Mia Goth.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't think there's a person out there that's hyped for Gladiator 2 that will magically not see it because a trailer plays a rap song. Just seems like a bunch of grousing over nothing if you ask me.

TBF, I do think it was reasonable, at least a few weeks ago, to think with Inside Out 2 overperforming like crazy and Despicable Me 3 underperforming domestically that DM4 could have done lukewarm business relative to the other movies. Though yeah, I don't think anybody expected the movie to bomb or crash or anything like that.

89% on RT? That doesn't sound good for an animated movie
Ehh, not really. These online audience scores don't allow children to write reviews. This is also the last major kids movie for the summer. I'm sure it'll leg out like the other ones.

QuoteSo, surprise, surprise, but Minions are the lords of Independence Day.
Illumination/Universal’s Despicable Me 4 is looking at $28M today, sans Tuesday previews (they weren’t held), which is high enough to get the movie to $120M over its first five days of Wednesday to Sunday. That’s where tracking was spotting it, and it’s an amount that underscores the continued upward nature of the current box office as event films crowd on the schedule post double strikes. The Friday-Sunday take for Despicable Me 4 stands at $70M.
Rotten Tomatoes critics aren’t fond of Despicable Me 4 at 53% Rotten, which is lower than Minions. Luckily for Illumination and Universal, their opinions did not prevent audiences from turning this franchise into a multi-billion-dollar grossing phenomenon. Proof? The audience RT score for the fourthquel from director Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage is 89%.
Despicable Me 4 is also going in 52 offshore markets this weekend, including Mexico, Spain and Brazil. The pic has some $25M already in the bank from the international box office, and the total global running total is expected to be around $200M by Sunday.

When I made a weekend thread for a Wednesday opener before, you locked it and said we should wait for Friday numbers. So which is which? Sometimes I feel the forums don't follow any rules anymore. Like the decisions are made on a whim.
I don’t remember that, but I apologize for the confusion. But yeah, typically Wednesday openers, at least major ones, do result in the weekend thread coming up early. I apologize again for making things confusing. It was not my intention, but intentions do not equal actions.
