  1. Honestly I think the big issue affecting all these movies is just the yearn to go outside. People have their days off on Saturday, and after being cooped inside for months, they'd rather do outdoors stuff rather than be in a dark theater for 2 hours. Saturday bumps this weekend are pretty bad all across the board. I'm as big a Sonic fan as you can get, and I'm super excited to see Tails and Knuckles kick some ass. But like 75% of the hype for the last movie was the redesign controversy, which won't be a thing for the next one. They are trying to lean a bit on the nostalgia angle with adding in more classic Sonic characters, but I don't think that's really enough, since nostalgia really only works for the first movie.
  2. This is also basically a long-winded way of saying Sonic 2’s gonna flop probably
  3. Yeah Peter Rabbit is just following in the footsteps of most of these CG hybrid kids movies. This, Smurfs, Garfield, etc. all have the issue where the first movie was big, and families liked it okay, but the movie’s not interesting or good enough to make people crave a continuation. Something like The Squeakquel is an anomaly and I’m still not sure why that of all things bucked the trend. Maybe it was the Single Ladies cover I dunno.
  4. If it makes you feel better, I’m still on the “theatrical is dead” and “GvK/Memorial Day is a fluke” camp. I’m no wishy-washy hack that changes my mind every weekend. Besides, Mickey’s Law and audiences rejection of midbudget fare meant theatrical died spiritually ages ago
  5. Okay. Even then, that's only a fraction of what he writes about. He discusses box office in a broader context, talks about movie anniversaries and what their success represents, as well as reports on trailers and film news. And yeah, I haven't had any major problems or felt he did poorly on those fronts. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I do think the whole "he's a hack" and visceral hatred towards him is really unfair because he is an interesting guy who has fun viewpoints.
  6. The weird hatred for Scott Mendelson here has always baffled me. He's an entertaining writer, I always enjoy reading his viewpoints, even when I disagree, and he has a good idea on what he's talking about IMO. It just seems like people hate him here because he doesn't think exactly like them in terms of box office, and like...you know that no writer will think exactly like you, right?
  7. Actually forgot it was this weekend. You can make a thread if you want to

  10. My mom teared up when we got the trailer for this before Heights. She's also confused why I think Ben Platt looks too old for the part. Sometimes I'm confused by this woman
  11. Absolutely phenomenal. Such a memorable tale that talks about the joys of community and togetherness in a way very few films can achieve. LMM truly, does not, ever, ever miss.
  12. Perfection. Honest to god perfection. Lin really is a master in blending story, music, and visuals into such a tight package and Chu's energy is on point. This is definitely an all-timer for this year tbh
  13. What would be the Paramount equivalent of Mickey’s Law? Popeye’s Law? Spongebob’s Law? Halpert’s Law?
  14. Agreed on legs. Same day SVOD movies’s legs pale in comparison to same day/17-day PVOD movies. But openings don’t seem so impacted by Max IMO and it doesn’t seem like it would have been that huge pre-pandemic in hindsight
