Yes it does. He was talking about how fox is ushering in a new era of ballsy comic book movies and I gave an example that shows that they can flounder. Moreover, this movie is a horror movie now..exactly what that was initially but turned into something else later in the post.

I don't see how it discredits my argument. There's of course always the chance a movie will suck even if it does take risks. That's art in general. But Fox has been two for three in terms of their more genre-bending CBMs. Not to mention, Fantastic Four had a notoriously disastrous production, with a lot of butting heads and a hard to work with director. Obviously, we won't know how good the film is and whether production ran smoothly or not until months later, but Boone has been able to pull off a well-received film before, and while he hasn't done anything horror-related, he seems like a trustworthy director.

Also, Fantastic Four was only given studio meddling because of negative fan feedback and a douchey director. Deadpool and Logan were made with little interference, at least to my knowledge, and production ran smoothly and obviously were big moneymakers. I see little reason why New Mutants will be any different unless Boone is a douche to work with or fans feel the horror elements are against what NM stands for.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  2. Allow me to say that I still haven't really paid all that much attention to the movie, but I got an ad for the movie while watching Guardians 2 (not the trailer, but something linked to a charity my theater runs which Valerian's sponsoring), and the little footage I saw honestly was pretty jaw-dropping. I didn't think it looked incredible on my laptop, but on the big screen it was pure eye candy. I don't know if I'll see it or not, but I'm now somewhat hooked...although hopefully, I'll like more than just the pretty visuals.

Matinee numbers are starting to come in and industry watchers are revising estimates on the three new pictures out this weekend. Remember, these are early numbers so we are ticker-taping it. First up, is Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant which had a production budget of about $110M. The three-day currently looks to be in the range of $41M to $42M with the third weekend of Disney/Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 estimated to take in around $30M which would bring its domestic total to $296.7M.

Meanwhile, MGM/Warner Bros.’ female teen-targeted film Everything, Everything is holding in line with earlier estimates of right around $10M to $12M for the weekend, with some trackers showing it possibly slipping a little.

Fox’s other offering in the marketplace, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul — which will see most of its business over the family going movie days of Saturday and Sunday, is very soft today and estimates are being taken down a notch. So maybe $3.2M today for an $9M to $11M weekend.
