  1. I mean...no? Not everybody will drop everything to see movies another actor was in just because they saw another movie they liked. Time is short and new movies are coming out on a weekly basis. Did you think when people saw the Aladdin remake, they were like, "man oh man, I just have to watch Hitch and Men in Black 2 again?" Maybe a couple did something like that, but I don't think it was a huge audience.
  2. Well...I did it. In what is perhaps my most ambitious list yet...at least until the Disney countdown a few months from now, I have finally completed and prepared up BOT’s official Top 100 for the greatest Warner Bros. movies of all time. It took a lot of work to compile everything up, and every single list changed the placements of each movie dramatically. If one list didn’t come in, the entire list would look completely different. But of note... 40 lists were submitted and approved. This is a high for one of my lists, the previous being 34 for the Spielberg countdown. Y’all clearly love some Warner Bros. and wanted to show your support. Hoping we will match that or go even higher for the Disney countdown later this year. Within these 40 lists, a grand total of 607 different movies were submitted. That’s a lot to look over. So do know that if your fave missed, it had a lot of competition to deal with. The most represented decade of movies was the 2010s with a whopping 22 films. Meanwhile, the least represented was the 1930s with a whopping 1. So yeah. If we ever do this again (not saying we are), you kids need to learn some good culture and enjoy the classics. 9 DC Comics adaptations are part of the top 100. You can probably guess what the most popular hero is, but what ranked #1 of them all? Well, that answer may surprise you...or maybe not. All the Potters had a significant presence in many of the submitted lists. Even the Fantastic Beasts films got at least one vote. However, only six of the original eight Potters made the top 100. Which ones missed? Which is the highest? Just wait and see. Papa Nolan and Stanley Kubrick were the big winners in terms of directors, which...yeah, that’s a very BOT thing to happen. In fact, all but one of Nolan's WB movies made the top 100, because you guys are CRAZY Only 3 movies got over 2,000 points. That meant these films appeared in almost every single list submitted, whether it be 10 entries or 100. So these were really, really popular. Ties (3 in the top 100) were broken up by which one had the least number of submissions and/or which had the better average ranking. This was done to represent the higher-ranked movies having more passionate voters compared to the other film. The honorable mentions have a few films that tied and had the same number of entries/same average ranking, so those are just complete ties. But those are the lower tier stuff you don't care about. “This movie I hate ranked higher than a movie I like? I lost all my respect for this list!” Yes, believe it or not, the general consensus of the forums will not automatically fit your tastes and sensibilities. All I ask is to please try to be respectful and courteous during the duration of this countdown, both to myself and to fellow BOT members. You don't have to agree with this, but you can act like a gentleman. If you are going to complain about something, and you didn't submit a list, just know that it's on you. Much like with government elections, you can't complain about something if you didn't vote in the first place. I’ll be alternating between revealing honorable mentions and the actual top 100. All rankings were determined by points, # of lists, and average placement. There’s even going to be a poem attached to each film in the top 100, because I think that’s a neat thing to do. I’m going to do something fancier for the Disney countdown however, so just wait for that one Expect the first few entries later today.
  3. This is also a big problem. They gave zero hook for this new one outside of just more Ethan Hunt antics. Fallout's stunts alone got tons of promo and hype as being the most incredible achievements in stunt history. Dead Reckoning had nothing. If I wasn't already a fan of the series, I would have no reason to check out this seventh movie of a series that looks more of the same. It didn't even have the "Tom Cruise says you can only see this in theaters or else" advertising TGM did.
  4. Same reasons I said last year when everybody expected an increase: TGM has an easier barrier of entry. All you need to watch to see Top Gun 2 is one movie to get what's going on, and the film is even designed and set up where you don't even need to see the original. Mission Impossible has gone on for six movies now. Six highly successful movies that already have their own fanbase. At this rate, you know if you like these movies or not and if you're invested in the new one. If this was Oblivion 2 or even Jack Reacher 3...well, it wouldn't make the same money as TGM, but it would still see a big increase. My parents loved TGM, but they aren't going to sit down and watch six more movies for a seventh title. It's like going into season 6 of Walking Dead or Lost or something, completely blind. Why would anybody do that? I know these movies are largely standalone adventures, but that's a hard perception to get out there. And if the commercials and trailers for the other movies didn't get them interested in a watch, why would they do it for this? (Plus older viewers don't go to the movies anymore. TGM was the exception, not the rule)

  6. CJohn is just doing his tired old schtick. Just ignore him and he’ll realize he’s acting like a goober eventually
  7. Nah. The Disney Vault was a trash system and those artificial scarcity tactics were the worst as a kid. We don't need this back.
  8. I mean...no? 90.6M off an 18M budget, 5 times the cost to make it, is still a success and a good return on investment. Obviously not the same as the first movie, but nobody lost anything on this. Probably nobody. These movies are inexpensive, the last film still did okay, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson still have pull as producers. It's not that big a mystery.
  9. Got the trailer for this in front of Indiana Jones and I totally forgot there was a Greek Wedding 2. Came out the same day as Batman v Superman of all release dates.
  10. Well, if you really want to deal with 5+ pages of endless back and forth, endless concern trolling, fanboy war battles, and everybody being miserable afterwards, I guess I can't stop you. But when you and others start complaining about how annoying the conversation is going, just know that this is what you wanted. And I hope you're happy with it.
  11. Moderation Not doing this “is Elemental a hit actually” stuff. Too early in the morning for this, and we all know it won’t lead to anything productive. If you really want to argue this, you can do it in the Elemental thread
  12. I mean it’s not wrong, but comparing 250M to 1.45B is kind of funny.
  13. Moderation We don’t need to insult @pryda for their posting style. It’s not nice.
  14. Old white guys don’t go to the theaters anymore. Top Gun is the exception, not the rule. And those that are already spent their money on Indy and/or Sound of Freedom, or will spend it on Oppenheimer. And the box office is so terrible that it can’t support multiple hits. This all spells bad news when a huge audience sector is watching these at home now.
  15. Moderation This is about tracking first and foremost. If you want to talk about Greta Gerwig and her career trajectory and whether she should get a DC movie or whatever, take it to somewhere more appropriate.

  17. I mean I feel the laws of physics being broken is part of the whole charm for Fast and Furious and Mission Impossible? These are designed to be goofy action movies and have ridiculous, over-the-top shenanigans. And at least in M:I's case, they actually shoot these ridiculous stunts through as many practical effects as possible. I dunno. It's like saying Jurassic Park has too many dinosaurs or something.
  18. https://deadline.com/2023/07/box-office-mission-impossible-dead-reckoning-tom-cruise-1235434821/ Well never mind then lol

  20. Moderation We're done with this "are Indy 5/Mission Impossible 7 bombs actually" argument. I know it's going to end with us talking in circles and I don't want to wake up to a giant mess. And as a reminder, if some of you don't like certain users or their posts, you can place them on your Ignore lists, so you never see their posts and aren't tempted to respond to them.
