It's hilarious that if they just waited two more years to shoot this movie, the whole thing would have for sure been an Indy/Short Round team-up and that probably would have been the best selling point you could hope for with an Indiana Jones sequel.

Umm...no? I'm just not interested in people explaining why Rey and Finn are bad actually because of this, that, and the other thing.

I'll never forget falling asleep halfway through the movie on my first viewing because of how turgid and dull that movie and the heroes were. It was especially baffling considering how dynamic and fun Rey and Finn were the year prior (not an invitation for some of you to explain why I'm wrong btw). But SW fans I guess are the kind of edgelords who enjoy when things are DARK and SERIOUS and PEOPLE DIE and VADERRRRRRRR. Ah well. At least people are enjoying Andor from all this. That at least seems like it tries to actually have dimension and personality for its characters. That's cool.

Not really? Reception and WOM isn't very good for Indy, so it likely wouldn't have done much on those holidays anyways (plus it still had Spider-Verse and Transformers and Flash), and Little Mermaid, while not having Aladdin late legs, is still holding super strong, which it likely wouldn't if it didn't have the whole summer to play. Plus Barbie would be much closer to its release date and damage it. They made the right call IMO.

I mean I haven't been in this thread in a long time. I'm very, very busy with my personal life and I don't recall anybody reporting any posts in here, so I have had no reason until now, when I'm finally about to have my day off, that I can check up on this thread. But I will say that the TLM would have been a lot cleaner and full of less trolls if you simply reported posts you felt were breaking the rules and making things more unbearable. Some users did and I was able to fix that, but the staff can't always be in every thread at every time. I work in retail and almost never get the chance to check on the forums outside of lunch and bathroom breaks. If you report a post, that means that somebody on the staff will, at the very least, be aware of a potential problem and try to see if they can give out needed repercussions. It's certainly better than complaining about how "unfair" things are when we have rules in place that can make things easy and fair for everybody.

COVID halted its development big time IMO and The Rock's schedule has pushed it back further and further. It was likely going to be his next movie after Red Notice was done in spring 2020 and Black Adam was done filming in summer 2020, and serve as Sony's big 2021 or 2022 Christmas release. But then both movies got their filming dates pushed back, with Black Adam now being the main movie he shot in 2021. Then his Seven Bucks company began working on Red One, which is some Christmas action movie set to be on Amazon, and he shot that in late 2022 and early 2023. And now the Moana remake is set to film this year and he's going to have another Fast and Furious spin-off starring him also getting fast-tracked. So a Jumanji 3 is getting pushed back further and further. That's not even getting into filming Young Rock for a couple weeks each year, doing his XFL/Teremana/other business ventures, all of which eat into his time. Plus Karen Gillan also had Guardians 3 to film at that time, Kevin Hart and Nick Jonas are always working. It's a film that requires everybody's schedules to align with each other, and the busiest guy of them all isn't helping matters at all. By this point, Jumanji 3 will be like Night at the Museum 3 when it comes out like 4 years too late and nobody gives a shit.

I know ragging on these studios and how much they spend on these tentpoles is the theme of the weekend, but is that really a fixable solution? Disregarding COVID protocols and potential reshoots, even taking out $50 million in the budget means you would take out major scenes and actors out of your movies, which will hurt the movies creatively. Even if it doesn’t turn out good in the end, I feel like “lower the budget” can cancel things out when it comes to WOM and quality and longevity. I dunno. Just feels like one of those scenarios where we can’t really fix this. Even going down the New Hollywood route of cheap movies doesn’t work in a post-streaming world.

This has been a weird thing people have with Lucasfilm characters. People threw fits at the very idea of Luke and Han and now Indy being portrayed in nothing but the greatest, most important light. People can't criticize them, them making mistakes are bad, them daring to be criticized by those icky women with their gross cooties and feminisms is bad. They just want their heroes to be as artificial as the action figures they used to play with. The last one is pretty hilarious, because you got people here whining about how Indiana Jones being lectured and squabbling and fighting with his woman companion is bad, when that was the dynamic since Day 1. But now in this culture war BS where people whine about how there's too many XX chromosomes forced into Star Wars and Ghostbusters, suddenly that doesn't matter anymore. Hopefully these weirdos grow up and move on from whining about these dumb kids movies. 🤷‍♂️

This is what happens every time though. A director gets attached to a Star Wars movie, a director has a critical/commercial bomb, then the Star Wars project is canceled forever. At this rate, you might as well give up and never make another Star Wars movie again. It’s just too cursed.
