Lower opening day than trap despite the fact that the trailer viewership was really high for trap and much better than old I’m really not sure what happened here is it even gonna do 15 million at this rate
I've liked all of M. Night's movies from Split onwards, but that's his last movie that really landed with the GA. I don't think it's a big reason, but the badwill from his last couple movies probably didn't help. The reviews for Trap also aren't all that, so that makes it even worse for fence-sitters.

So like...I kinda get the casting decision. But honestly, I'd be curious of the box office in an alternate world where Harold and the Purple Crayon starred an actual child and had Zachary Levi as the dad or uncle or something. Because to quote The Fairly Oddparents, when a little kid is using his imagination to draw stuff with a purple crayon, it's kind of cute. When a grown adult does it, it's just plain creepy.

6.6M Friday for Trap. Should reach mid-teens. Pity. But I'm doing my part later today!

Like, vaguebooking is such a pussy thing.
He's talking about me. I'm the moderator.
And you know what? He's right. I do give out most of the warning points. And sometimes, I can be harsh with that stuff. I've been told that a lot. But somebody has to do it. And I'm just trying to do what I think is best for the forum. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. But I feel my warnings are pretty fair 98% of the time. And for the most part, they seem to be working. Besides, a 2-point warning that only lasts a month is pretty light all things considered. A slap on the wrist. Something you can quickly learn and quickly change just like that. And most of the time, people learn from my warnings and don't cause any trouble. Good thing we got the "10 points and you're out" system in place, where people can be given multiple chances to learn.
And don't worry LMD, you're allowed to call me out directly. Prefer if you just did it privately, which you did literally yesterday, but you can say my name. I'm not above anybody. I have thick skin. I don't ban people the second somebody criticizes me, like you're pretending I do. And hey! If you bring up a good and valid point, I'll listen and internalize it. Frankly, I've been hit with way more insulting rhetoric than being called "the mod who hands out all the warnings". You're good hon.

I still wish I could have been there in the recording studio. Why did they get Tom Kenny, the whitest man on the planet, and have him act all “street?” Why must you be like this Michael. Why?

So Del Toro's Pinocchio is a dark fairy tale that's really about fascism?
Like Pan's Labyrinth?
Btw, the guy voicing Mussolini is the same guy who voices SpongeBob. What a resume

I think the Planet of the Apes movies from the 70s deserve a watch too. They are low budget, but have a lot of charms and great political and social intrigue despite their low budgets. Nobody talks about them sadly, but they were very fun to look into.

I’m seeing Trap today with some coworkers. Shyamalan is a filmmaker I like and usually respect even if it doesn’t work out.
Speaking of which, I will go to bat for his last three movies and say they’re some of his best work.
I’ve been pushing that his new era of movies have been some of his best for a while now. Old and Glass and Split and Cabin have all excelled as some of his most creative and emotionally resonant movies yet. Really, of his post-blockbuster era, The Visit is the only one of his I’ve hated, though that is in large part because I think he did a crummy job re: the whole found footage angle. Not sure what the point was (well, outside of keeping costs down)

Are!’t those the dudes who spent like 12 hours ranting about some YouTuber’s negative Joker review that lasted like…a half hour? Not sure if that is something to be proud of, mate.

The Zachary Levi movie star era has come to its appropriate end.
Half-expecting by the end of next year that Levi will star in some generic network cop show that nobody under the age of 50 will watch, but will somehow last 7 seasons. Or a Peacock show that gets canceled in two.
Of course, he's guaranteed within the next 7 years to star as Chuck in a Super Bowl commercial for like...TurboTax or something.

Where is the weekdays thread? We still don't have official Thursday numbers for most movies.
Moved it to the Speakeasy thread earlier today by accident. It has returned to the main thread. Sorry about that!

Moderation
Yeah, we're done with this whole argument right here. @ZattMurdock @MysteryMovieMogul you were clearly trying to start a fight with your accusations, and it's not something we need. Please move on to something else, or thread bans will come your way.

Don’t know if this is just me playing Devil’s advocate, but Furiosa also had great presales before stumbling at the endgame. Alien is of course a far bigger franchise and has a bigger fandom, but it’s also a niche sci-fi 80s franchise from a very fan-driven franchise. And while Furiosa was fresh off Fury Road, Alien hasn’t had a huge crowd pleasing hit since Aliens. And that movie is how old now?
I hope for the best of course. It looks good! I’m excited for it. Just feel it’s important to bring that up with some of the 60+ predictions I’m seeing.
