Valkyrie is underrated. Movie was incredible in theaters. Non stop suspense even though you know what happens, impressive writing and brilliant directing.

The series is coming to its natural end which is fine. At a certain point you have to acknowledge no matter what you do the franchise has reached its peak interest. I do believe Part 2 will do better at least DOM but my guess is Cruise goes off and does other stuff after this.
Doesn't have to end. Just needs to reinvent itself a bit. Lower the budget yo 150 and make it more of a spy movie with action likr MI3, but wait 5-6 years before the next one.

More story and better writing is needed. McQ turned a spy action series into an action series with spy themes. DRP1 is my favorite of the McQ directed movies but still nowhere close to 1,3, and 4 in terms of quality story that lends itself to repeat viewing.

so superhero movies can get away with generic stories but MI needs something greater?
Bro, I hate about 95% of super hero movies and think they're over rated garbage.

They're halfway filming DR2, they won't be getting rid of McQuarrie.
I didn't mean for DRP2, I meant after. Which I'm sure would will happen regardless of how these two movies perform.

My initially thoughts for this movie was that it would make 650-750 because the trailer was underwhelming. Once I saw everything released before it bomb I thought this has a chance to hit 1b. Damn was I off the mark, should have stuck to my initial gut instinct. The problem with this franchise is they turned into a big stunt sell and the big stunt in this just wasn't something that people cared about. This movie is kind of like M Night's The Village in the sense that people were just expecting a twist ending from him at that point and when the twist was underwhelming it turned some people off.
They need to get rid of McQ and being in someone who will focus on story first and foremost and have a script written ahead of time. The whole write as you go does not lead to quality story. I enjoyed DRP1 the most of the McQ films but the story was still weak compared to the earlier entries.

When some rag reports a movies budget is higher it gets eaten up as fact but this movies budget comes straight from the directors mouth and the internet is doing gymnastics trying to come up with ways it's actually lower lol.

https://deadline.com/2023/07/box-office-mission-impossible-dead-reckoning-tom-cruise-1235434821/
UPDATED WEDNESDAY PM: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘s opening day is looking like $16 million, which includes the $7M in previews.
Yes, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Mission: Impossible – Fallout both posted first days in the $22M-$23M range, but those were Fridays. This is about the long play of the movie, and Tom Cruise fare is back-loaded. The reason why this pic is going for the five-day record is due to its length, at 2 hours and 43 minutes. It’s expected, especially with a current great Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 94%, to get to $90M, a franchise record opening, by Sunday. Again, it’s still early. These numbers could go up.

So then unless something drastic happens so far the movie is doing good.

So it made more than Maverick which grossed 66m in SK but it's under performing Fallout which made 49m? I'm confused. -
Honestly my favorite sequence was the Airport.

Situation improving little by little in china, lets see how next 2 days turn out
Just like everywhere else in the world. Just like anyone who has actually followed Cruise movies in the past predicted. Doom and gloom for nothing. -
Looks even more impressive when you see it from a distance.

Top Gun and reviews has helped this in Asia. Will be interesting to see what happens in Europe.
-
Movie is breaking out in Asia. It'll do the same here. Cruise movies are slow moving trains. They start slow but eventually get there and once they get moving they're hard to stop. Word of mouth will kick in and by the time the weekend rolls in it'll start outperforming expectations.

Bodes well for MI run in Canada???
Or it means nothing as it's just one area of a big market. Who knows.

You went from "too political" to "its only a movie" that quickly because you were called out for being wrong/misinformed?
I have no idea what you're talking about, but goodnight. Hope you enjoy the movie.- 1

Did this have a screening tonight? Any reactions out?
Still wish this was coming out in the fall and not in the summer, really feel like it would do better in the fall. -

Unless it's unwatchable, I don't think reviews will matter for Barbie. Even if reviews are mixed on RT it will be critic proof.
Wont matter for opening weekend, but I do think it'll matter long term. I thought this movie would open well (although nowhere near as well as it looks like it will be opening) but I always expected a big second weekend drop. Maybe that doesn't happen, but if it's too political most parents wont want to take their kids and most kids wont enjoy it.- 1

I'm just outside Vancouver, and anecdotally I went to book tickets for and early showtime on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday and 70% of seats are gone. Doesn't usually happen in my area for something during the week.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 | July 12 2023 | 99% on Rotten Tomatoes! | 290M budget so far, Cruise holding Paramount hostage for more money

I can understand the odd comment about a movie and actor you don't like but when you spend all day and night for months thinking and commenting about a movie or actor you don't even enjoy it's just unhealthy. Can't for the life of me understand why anyone would be so obsessed over someone they don't even enjoy. Go discuss something you enjoy, might make you happier.
