  1. Why?

2 year release date gap sweet spot. The best time to release a sequel is generally 2 years after the first movie. If it had been released in 2011, a lot of people (especially in overseas markets) would be more interested. In the meantime we have gotten other franchises to care about. People went to Avatar because it was supposed to be an incredible cinematic experience, in the meantime we have had movies like Inception, Gravity and Interstellar to do that for us. And at last, there is the decline in interest in 3D. Avatar started a 3D hype, but it's been on a decline since every major movie gets a 3D release next to its normal release.

  2. Yeah, but that was a single movie.  A great movie, true, but the entire history we knew of these characters was centered around that.

Toy Story 4 is including established characters from three prior movies, throwing out some of the primary relationship building established, going through a tone change, and being a tacked-on afterthought to a perfectly-ended trilogy.

I'm not saying this will be as great as Wall-E. I'm saying that making a romantic comedy is not per se a bad thing.

Toy Story 4 could still go in a lot of directions as we basically only know it's going to be a rom-com. To say this is just an afterthought to a perfect trilogy is beyond ridiculous. Toy Story 2 was made because A Bug's Life wasn't as succesful as hoped. Toy Story 3 was made because money. It's not like they wrote out the story of this trilogy before. Especially Toy Story 3. That movie, while it was good, was made of afterthoughts.

Who says TS4 won't become a prequel. Who says it will stray away from the first 3 movies as you are suggesting. Calm the beans, this movie will be fine.

  3. I think this franchise is not big enough to handle the drop of a two-movie split for the last book. Scorch Trials will need to build a lot on the goodwill / momentum that the Maze Runner has. A two-movie split would likely cause to lose a lot of momentum that the final movie won't even outgross the first movie. In the end, that would still be a bit profitable, but for the long-run of their franchise (toys, diaries, bed covers) it would not be a smart move.

  4. It's incomparable to T1 and T2's gap. We live in an era that's fueled by non-stop information needs. Humans constantly need new information and 7 years is longer now than it was in the 80s/90s. Avatar's hype died, just like Frozen's hype will die at some point. That doesn't mean the movie won't be liked anymore, it just means that the GA are not as interested anymore as they have probably moved on to the next hype.

Not saying Avatar 2 won't make money as it certainly will get some interest as 'the sequel to the world's highest grosser of all time'. It probably won't make nearly as much as it would have if it were released in 2011.

  5. Europe is old-fashioned in sex so women are excited about this [crap] movie and as we can see Asia has more eventful sexual life xD

That's a horrible generalization. Europe is not at all old-fashioned in sex. France gave this movie a 12+ rating. In the Netherlands we are allowed to show breasts on TV (don't know this for other countries). While eastern-europe indeed is rather old-fashioned; western europe is way more modern than the USA in therms of openness about sex.

I really dislike Ryan Gosling so I'd prefer a different actor for Walt Disney. Going with Joseph Gordon-Levitt (and some makeup) could never go wrong. I could also see Jon Hamm playing Walt. Edward Norton can't fail any role so I could see him playing Walt Disney as well, but they got to hurry because he's getting older.

More out of the box: Sam Rockwell and James McAvoy

I'd have this written by David Magee (Finding Neverland).
