  1. Both Screenrant and Indiewire said it was $200 million, but I don’t think Disney will ever really tell us.
  2. I have a question why is Little Mermaid considered a flop but Cruella’s budget was pretty close and it made $233 million worldwide but Disney has already commissioned a sequel and signed Emma to star in the sequel? I wonder if Disney would consider it a success because of the cultural impact on the African American community?
  3. huh? I didn’t @ you or reply to you, I don’t even know who you are
  4. Why do y’all keep coddling racists and not the victims of racism? Educate the racists that’s nice, well what about Halle who has been tormented online by those racist for the past three years? She even spoke about how hurt she’s been with the backlash and attacks that she’s received online.
  5. That might be why the demographics for the first film were mainly from white Americans.
  6. If the hire a white woman it’ll smash at the BO
  7. Nah as an African American I can guarantee you this film isn’t going to attract black audiences. Spider-Man has never been big in the African American community and Miles Morales is looked at by young black kids as a Latino. Little Mermaid had tons of support for the African American community and the demographics proved it. This is the demographics for the first Into The Spiderverse As we mentioned previously, exit demos for Spider-Verse were 67% non-families, with men 25+ repping 41% of moviegoers, followed by men under 25 at 26%. Both enjoyed the movie, with men under 25 giving it 96% and men over 25 a 91% positive score. Boys under 12 outnumbered girls 70% to 30% in turnout. Diversity demos were 43% Caucasian, 21% Hispanic, 16% African-American and 15% Asian. https://deadline.com/2018/12/spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-mortal-engines-clint-eastwood-the-mule-weekend-box-office-1202520137/amp/
  8. She’s a black woman with strong Sub-Saharan African features and dreadlocks. As an African American it’s not a threat to me but it’s scares the hell out of a lot of white Americans.
  9. Yeah but despite Emma Watson just being in Bell clothing it made almost 1.3 billion worldwide. I agree Halle is the best for the role as I’ve always said, BUT Zendaya would’ve made this a billion dollar grossing film. With Halle in the lead and the backlash and racism, this film is lucky to make at least $500 million worldwide. Don’t know if Disney will be able to break even for this film.
  10. The backlash when Zendaya was cast as a black MJ in Sliderman was very short and she didn’t get any backlash for playing Chani in Dune. At the end of the day Zendaya is a racially ambiguous biracial woman who isn’t considered a threat and has a huge fan base. Zendaya is as mainstream as they come.
  11. Zendaya actually really fought for the role of Ariel and dyed her hair red for the film while auditioning in 2019. Halle did amazing and is perfect for the role but with Zendaya this would’ve grossed over $1 billion worldwide
  12. Emma Watson and Will Smith! Those films had star power, Will replaced Robin Williams as Genie, but because of his star power it was well received by audiences. As I said earlier if Zendaya had been cast as Ariel this film wouldn't get half the backlash it's getting now.
  13. I'm sure there are more racist posts and videos from the USA about Halle! Just search YouTube, the top posts/most viewed videos about TLM are racist Americans talking about woke culture and attacking Halle and her looks. Theres a whole boycott against Disney and their films in the US right now for them being too "woke" because of their support for diversity and the LGBT community. Anyways back to the subject of this thread, I actually think this is going to pull great numbers in Mexico and Brazil
  14. Nah I lived in LATAM for a few years. I saw Bad Boys Forever and US in sold out theaters in LATAM. There are racists everywhere, please stop acting like every country is racists besides the US because the movie is flopping or getting bad feedback in those countries. Something that's important to note is that a lot of the actresses who are dubbing Halle in those countries are awful. A lot of Halle's praise in the US involves her voice. The Asian and LATAM voice overs can't hold a candle to Halle, hearing those women I'd be mad too! Musicals are hard to translate in other countries
  15. Something I find interesting about this whole overseas audiences are racist discussion is the fact that The Bodyguard starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston was the 7th highest grossing film in the US in 1992, yet worldwide it was the 2nd highest grossing film of 1992 grossing $121.9 million domestically, and $410.9 million worldwide. Also this was before China was a huge power player at the box office
  16. The problem is that most of the commentary isnt bashing the film for it's artistic values. Most of the bashing has to do with the race of the main character or saying that these remakes arent needed yet these same people praise other Disney remakes. Hence why Rob's Mary Poppins remake has 80% on RT yet a 64% from audiences on RT while The Little Mermaid has a 67% on RT but a 94% audience score on RT. To pretend that this film hasn't been bashed from the day Halle was announced to now is clearly delusion.
  17. Agree, Halle was perfect, but Zendaya is a black actress that is considered to not be a threat and safe because of her looks and being biracial. I def think this would have reached over $1 billion if Zendaya was in the lead.
  18. Do you know how to leave a verified review? I have an account on RT, but I also have my digital ticket stub from AMC
  19. I think it’s a combo of the studio (Warner Discovery is a disaster, despite people hopefulness) and real promo is going to be very difficult considering the scandals around Ezra Miller. This film is depending on fanboys at this point but the promo push is going to be a tough sell to people outside the fandom of The Flash.
  20. Definitely think after 2023 studios are going to see that audiences are fatigued of franchises, remakes and films on popular toys/comics. Disney kind of went into overkill after seeing the success of the Marvel films. That’s why Avatar was so successful because it was a fresh concept.
