Goddamn this kid is talented. Just saw his Michael Buble impression on Graham Norton, we should just let Taron play a different singer in a different biopic every year. I vote Liam Gallagher next.

I don't agree with the Guy Ritchie King Arthur comparisons. That movie, as flawed and stupid as it was, had humour and life. This on the other hand looks dull and flat.

So because you dont class a widely praised movie as very good you think that warrants suggesting spielberg doesnt have the trust he used to have? That makes little sense
It makes sense if you consider that he used to make films that were better than very good, fairly regularly too.

bridge of spies is better than two of those movies.
Nope.
But hey if I guess your two then you owe me a like. I'm gonna go with Raiders and JP.

He made two brilliant films in 2002, how can you forget 'Catch Me If You Can'? He's made two blockbusters since (indy 5 and WOTW), both of which were very successful and the guy decided to take a break by making historical dramas which have all turned out to be pretty successful. How someone can say he can't be trusted is beyond me.
I feel the same way about Catch Me If You Can as I do about The Departed. They're very good movies by all time great directors, but they're in the second tier of their respective filmmakers' filmography. But even if we counted it, that's still 11 movies ago. As for the successes that you mention, I didn't mean box office.

He’s been on such a downhill trend!

Feel free to call The Post or Bridge Of Spies "great". All that means is we'll have to use a different word to describe ET, Raiders, Jurassic Park, or Saving Private Ryan, because I'm sure as hell not putting them in the same category.
Look, some of you are replying as if I'm slagging him off, or saying he's average now. He's still way above average. But those trailers were straight trash, and the book itself is shallow nonsense. However good this turns out to be, the apprehension leading up to it was fairly justified.

I'm not excited for the "Wow, Ready Player One was actually good?" hot takes on the Internet (mainly twitter).
I mean, it's fucking Steven Spielberg. Don't act too surprised, you wankers.
Mate, current Spielberg doesn't warrant that level of trust. He makes perfectly acceptable historical dramas, and serviceable family films, but this last great movie was released in 2001 (or 2002 I guess if you loved Minority Report). If this turns out to be really good, I'll accept that I was wrong leading up to it. But don't act like people were so crazy for doubting it. This isn't the 80s/90s Spielberg.

I get the feeling that T’Chaka was somewhat fine with Klaue being out there and not brought to justice as part of his ‘coverup’ of what he did to his brother.
In that case he could have just killed him.

It was such a tease when they cut away after the dude asked what a nation of farmers can do for the rest of the world. I wanted T'Challa's reply dammit.

As fun as Klaw was, it seemed really ridiculous that he has managed evade capture for 20 years. Stark tracked him down in an afternoon after glancing at some old paperwork, and Wakanda with all their advanced tech and personal vendetta just cannot do it?

Eh this looks a bit generic to be honest, with good performances all round and a nice message. Like a lesser Spotlight. But we'll see; I ended up enjoying Bridge Of Spies a lot more than I thought I would, so who knows.
Also, nice work aa, getting dem BOT likes as well as reddit karma.

I haven't read the Dark Tower books, but ASOIAF made this easier by getting worse and worse with every book.

i feel like 90% of the movies people say this about hit the middle ground. it's definitely up there as one of the dumbest movie discussion stock phrases for me.
It's either the dumbest stock phrase or the smartest, no middle ground.

My SDCC trailer rankings:
1. Kingsman
2. Bright
3. Justice League
4. Thor
5. Jigsaw
6. Ready Player OneI think Thor might have been higher if Hulk hadn't talked. I despise that portrayal of the character.

You are the only people on the face of the planet who aren't excited for this. C'MON! There's a DeLorean racing with some Landspeeder-looking things Speed Racer-style! THE IRON FUCKING GIANT IS IN THIS MOVIE!!
And the teaser trailer - which is what this is - is meant to give away the tone of the movie, not the story, so that complaint is imo a bit redundant.
How devoid of a soul can you be if not a bone in your body gets tingles from this at least once?
Some people just want a good story with interesting characters and some thematic depth under the surface of pop culture references and cool visuals.
But I suppose other people pretend to be more jaded and cynical than they actually are because they're on the internet. If you read any particular forum or site long enough, it becomes clear which users are which.

If this movie gets anything more than 60% on RT then it is so obvious that they are just sucking upto Steven Spielberg.
Get the fuck outta here with this shit. You haven't seen the movie yet, how on earth can you make that statement with any certainty?

Yep. Still, could be worse than 3 weeks. John Wick 2 was something like 3 months.

About a 100 pages back I said I was more excited for this than The Last Jedi.
I won't lie, that might not be true anymore. But still, Valerian feel so different from any modern blockbuster that I still wanna see it pretty bad. I just wish I didn't have to wait another 3 weeks.

I kinda feel bad for Taron Egerton; he's the protagonist of the film but is billed third in the trailer. I get why though.
I hope he least got a massive pay raise his time.

I would lose my shit if Nolan decided to do a Bond flick, but only if they cast a new Bond. I've liked Craig a lot, but like Batman Begins, I'd want Nolan to tackle a famous character with his own lead actor.

Are they actually going to move like that in the film? There is no weight to their physicality, which is the best thing about the jaegers in the first film.

Little Women | December 25 2019 | Sony | Greta Gerwig directs | 24th Most Profitable Movie of 2019
in Box Office Discussion
Posted
Just saw this. Having not read the book or seen any adaptations, this was my first experience of the story, and it was pretty damn good. The performances were great all round (although Laura Dern felt miscast, can't explain why), the flashback structure made for some great cuts, and it felt a lot shorter than it's run time. My only real negatives are that the last 5 minutes or so just all felt too meta, and I was slightly caught off-guard by the fact that both Laurie and the French guy actually end up with two of the sisters. Those two did combine for the best joke of the film though: "Who is this guy?"
After starring in a bunch of Baumbach's films, and being married to him, I wondered if I would find Gerwig's films as boring as his (don't know how this site feels about him, don't flame me), but I find this and Lady Bird a lot more enjoyable than any of his stuff.
